it was just a great team win. edelman just stands out because alot of the game it felt like he was the only one doing anything. the defense had guys everywhere making plays but yeah olineman will never get mvp lol
He was pretty poor in 1 on 1 coverage this year, he would get murdered whenever he had to cover a back out of the backfield. He is decent playing zone in the middle though.
He's the perfect clone of Belichicks Linebackers going back to the Giants and Browns. Belichick likes his Linebackers and Defensive linemen big and thick. Not light in the ass. He ALWAYS drafts big guys. Staple of his defense going back to the 80's 💪
Hightower is so underrated! If Hightower was healthy last year, the Pats would've beat the Eagles. He would've made at least one big play the turn that game like the strip sack against Atlanta or the tackle before the Butler Interception against Seattle.
@@robertgonzalez9018 those aren't reasons to punish the entire team for working hard all year. but belichick didn't seem to care that they couldn't stop anything. i was so mad and still am.
Robert Gonzalez the reason they lost is because eagles are better lol FLY EAGLES FLY ON THE ROAD TO KILLING THE PATS ALWAYS 41-33 NICK FOLES IS THE LAST QUATERBACK TO THROW A TOUCHDOWN IN A SUPER BOWL!!
Brent Barker thats soooo fendi. Ive always looked at it like this. All year brady just be fuckin around with teams givin them false hope all year same with the defense we just be playin then when it comes to the playoffs wee turn that bitch all the way up
Good point! You're right though, it's basically impossible for an offensive linemen to win MVP. It was kind of a weird situation where there were 3-5 guys you could argue deserved it, but nobody was a clear MVP.
Pretty sure the only way an OL is getting MVP is if he is the best run blocker and pancakes his opponent every play, does not let up a sack, and most importantly.... recovers a fumble which he then runs in to the endzone for a TD. And I do mean run. That's about the only way an OL is getting MVP. Which I think is unfair, but then again it's not like you can accurately measure what is worth more throughout the game, being one good OL player or being a playmaker somewhere else.
In games like this it's really hard to decide who's MVP. Whole defense played perfect! Whole O-line was perfect when you see they had to stop Donald and Suh. Develin and Gronk were important for rushing game. Edelman was nightmare for their DBs. Rams are great team so that's why this game was so tough. Almost forgot - special team was perfect too. Even many people think that punter is not that much important, we saw if you have good punter, you can screw your opponent
Hey man. Great video. I also think Dont'a is one of the most underrated players and maybe the best LB of all times. Besides his big turnover against Atlanta (which you showed at the end of the video) he also made the Malcolm Butler interception possible by stopping no one else, than Marshawn Lynch on a previous run play.
Best LB of all time is a bit of a stretch, but you could make the argument that he's one of the most clutch linebackers of all time. He had those 2 plays you mentioned, and he always seems to show up big in these big games.
Mmmmm...one can make a good argument for Kyle Van Noy. One can also make a great argument for Jason McCourty - as he made arguably one of the greatest defensive plays in SB history. One can also make a very good argument for the entire Offensive Line. So many potential MVP's. But w/o Edelman's game....and any of the above, incl. Dont'a....they lose this game.
Couldn’t agree with this more. The reason the pats are so successful in general is that the team, not any one player, is pretty much one cohesive unit.
Hightower is underrated. Donte's sack fumble of Matt Ryan in Super Bowl 51 against the Falcons was the turning point in the Patriots win. And his constant pressure and two sacks on Goff and disruption of the passing game and the overall Patriots defensive dominance should have given him the mvp IMO.
He didn't deserve to get the win over Brady against Atlanta or Seattle, but had it not been for the stellar play of Brady I can see him getting it. Looking at the three Superbowls he's been in, he really has been instrumental at creating defensive momentum. He was deserving of the award in a bubble, just not a bubble that included Brady. This year I wasn't sure who on defense should get MVP. I figured offensive MVP would be Edelman or Sony Michel. Defensive? I wasn't sure. KVN, Hightower, and Gilmore all played lights out. Both McCourty's had big plays. Harmon did very well stepping up for Chung. Flowers made plays. I don't have an issue with Edelman getting MVP, but I also would not have had an issue with Hightower, Gilmore, or KVN getting it. I'm surprised they didn't get any votes.
Given time, Hightower, McCourty, Chung, KVN, Gilmore, Flowers, will be in the same conversations given to McGinest, Bruschi, Law, Milloy, Seymour, Wilfork...
The Patriots have the best defense in the league. If you were to ask any team if they allowed only 13 points against Patriots if they would’ve won they would have all said yes. Just look what they did to the Chargers, Chiefs, and Rams is no joke. Pull Edelman, Gronkowski, and even Brady out of the games and they could’ve still won because the defense was that good.
His importance to the Patriots franchise cannot be understated. He made so many big plays in the biggest moments in Pats history. He is a fucking beast and a legendary part of our story.
This video is a great reminder that some of the greatest plays in football are plays that never happened because a defensive player was "Doing His Job" and breaking up the offensive side's intention.
Love the video man, Hightower is my favorite active player besides Brady and I find myself wearing 54 most often. Just wanted to let you know, Dont'a is pronounced Dont-ay like the regular name Dante :)
Hightower is so underrated! If Hightower was healthy last year, the Pats would've beat the Eagles. He would've made at least one big play the turn that game like the strip sack against Atlanta or the tackle before the Butler Interception against Seattle.
Hightower has made two of the biggest and most clutch plays in super bowl history. Stopping Beastmode on the two yard line enabling the Malcolm Butler play . And the Strip sack on Matt Ryan .
Love the break down... a lot of this goes unnoticed... but not gettin fooled and taken outta the play is such an underrated part of a football players ability... being smart and in position doesnt make highlights on sportscenter... but it wins super bowls 💪 🏆
Quietest 3 Super Bowl rings in history -- Why did the Seahawks pass instead of run? Answer- because Dont'a snuffed the Beast the play before.. Wonder why Rivers and Mahomes did *jack shit* in the first half of the playoff games -- because Dont'a was chasing them for their lives.. Also 2 time NCAA Champion /the guy is a *BIG GAME SUPERSTAR*
If both teams were healthy last year (Pats and Eagles), the Patriots would've won, no doubt in my mind. When Gronk and Edelman both start, the Pats are 2-0, when Edelman himself plays, they're 3-0, and when Hightower starts, they're 3-0. Those are just big-time performers, and Hightower is probably one of the best Super Bowl defenders this century. Stopped MARSHAWN LYNCH on the half-yard line with just his arm, strip sacks Matt Ryan EXACTLY when we need him to, and has a phenomenal game (almost had an interception) vs the Rams.
Thanks. That's a good point about Van Noy, he's a guy who isn't getting brought up much, but he probably should be. The reality is it was just a great team win by New England, so many players played well.
Hightower is the new McGinest Kyle Van Noy is the new Bruschi Gilmore is the new Ty Law Chung is the new Harrison Flowers is the new Seymour Yeah... this defense is as good the first half of this Dynasty Will there be a 3rd act?
Yes.. been saying it since he crushed Matty Ice 2yrs ago! He caused MAYHEM in the Super Bowl! Jules is deserving, but Hightower smashed Goff's brains in and took EVERYTHING away! Run, pass and time... He pushed them out of normal field goal range as well if not for a Hail Mary 53 yard kick. Dante rules! Great video, but try to use your lower register voice and use a mic filter to aid that. Keep it up!
Totally agree. I love Edelman and don't feel bad that he got the MVP, but Hightower is the man. He's always a force when he's on the field. He makes big plays and is rock solid all the time. In all three of the recent Super Bowl wins, he's been a major player. He's in the mold of great Patriots linebackers like Bruschi, McGinest and Vrabel. You have to love Kyle Van Noy (and I do) for his great play, energy and personality - I can see why he's the guy on all the talk shows - but Hightower is the man. I have three Patriots game jerseys - Brady, Wilfork and Hightower.
Hightower may be the guy that put Pats over the top to win their last 3 SBs SB49: Stopped Lynch at the 1 yd line SB51: Strip sack Matt Ryan sparks the comeback SB53: Consistently good the entire game
Hightower player great without a doubt I still I dont think he is MVP over Edelman because without Edelman you dont have 13 points. How can you win without scoring? Every receiver was eliminated by the rams their defense played unbelievable, people may forget about that because the Rams lost. The only receiver who could get open every play was Edelman, our TE Gronk got open few times as well. Edelman was deserving of the MVP 100%.
I've actually said, if Donta catches that dropped interception he is MVP hands down cos that play would've drawn attention to everything else he was already doing on defense.
He is definitely deserving of MVP. But one can argue that his great performance was partly due to Gurley and the Ram's run game being very ineffective. This meant he really didn't have to honor the play action very much which opened up many options for him. To his credit, he took great advantage of this opportunity and had a great game. But the NFL will seldom give defensive players MVP. Rightly or wrongly, that's just how the game is perceived.
Excellent breakdown, Hightower gets no love by the media types. Because he's a defender, and they love offense...However he is always making THAT play, the one we (yeah I said we) need to ice a game, or get us (yeah I know) back in it.
Belichick credits Hightower from stopping Marshawn Lynch from scoring a touchdown in Super Bowl 49. That was the play before Malcom Butler made the game winning interception, and Hightower may have been the reason Pete Carroll went for a pass rather than another run with Hightower. And has you showed, HIghtower was also the one to stripped sacked Matt Ryan in SB 51, that allowed the Patriots to come back.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that the fans vote for MVP hence Edelman winning I'm sure if football people picked the MVP it might of been a different outcome possibly Gilmore or Hightower.
Well done, nice analysis. If you think about it, when you ask yourself which player has been the biggest factor in the last 3 Pats Super Bowl victories not named Brady, it's Hightower. He's not far behind Brady at all either.
It’s a good case made however Jules was unstoppable! For a LB to win a MVP it has to be on the level of a Ray Lewis or Von Miller SB MVP! Hightower went off but was happy a little slow white guy won it! Maybe Jules can buy the entire Defense Rolexes!
Hightower ... Edelman ... either or is Ok with me. They are both beasts. By the way the only reason Patriots lost super bowl 52 is because they were both out with injuries period.
1:50 I think Kyle van made the biggest play. Blasted the wr off the route then chased the qb down. He was by far my mvp for this Super Bowl. The man played with his hair on fire
Was it not because Gurley was so out of form that hightower didn't have to react to play action. If Gurley was his usual self I imagine Hightower would have had to commit more which would have opened the passing lanes.
Man no one talks about Hightower. But then the Patriots have a knack for picking up guys who no one talks about. Edelman is a big deal now, but he's been doing the same thing for the past three or four years at least and no one seemed interested. James Develin is another who is a major contributor, and has been for years. But he'll never get a shout out. So thanks for the love for my man Hightower.
I said it at the start of sb52. No Julian Edlelman no rings. No Hightower no rings. These 2 are the most vital pieces on offense and defense not named Tom Brady.
1:42, watch as Van Noy (#53, top player on the Defensive line at that instant) takes out Goffs safety receiver. This was one hell of a play as well and should get atleast some love. ❤️
If you ask me to pick one linebacker that I want to start in any super bowl I’m taking Hightower with my pick. You can literally ask him to do anything.
Also hightower is one of the smartest people in the league when it comes to reading plays.i remember when the Patriots played the lions week 3 hightower was micd up and on one play called out the EXACT play pre snap.hes a huge center piece of out defense
Not a Pat's fan or rams fan.. not sure why I even watched this in the first place... but that was a great break down with great footage.. got a sub for this one. Great job!
i was going for hightower or gilmore for mvp but the defense never gets the credit they deserve when it comes to mvp.. just like this season, gilmore even though had one bad game against the dolphins he deserves mvp of the season but wont get it
what you are failing to address is the fact that todd gurleys bum ass was parked on the side lines. you aint gonna give CJ anderson the same respect as todd gurley
