Film Study: WHAT A MESS: Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins got EMBARRASSED by the Chiefs 

Chiefs took away the intermediate passing game so everything had to either be a deep shot or a check down hoping you get YAC. Run game never got going either which further exacerbated the struggles in the passing attack. Good gameplan by KC honestly but the complete absence of adjustment by Miami was very noticeable.

If Tua can't play in the cold, he ain't much good to a team hoping for playoff success then. Especially in the AFC where you're likely to play in KC and Buffalo for the foreseeable future and Baltimore ain't that warm either in January.

Dolphins only got to where they got to because of the teams that they played early on in the season. Tua is not at the level of Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson or Allen (not in any order). Their fans talked smack. They got embarrassed long before this game. Chiefs played like crap and they still won. Enjoy your vacation.

There is no trust in Tua as is evident in the second half play-calling. Bubble screens and rollouts because there's no trust in Tua inside the pocket. He's short. His arm isn't strong enough for sideline passes. Mass protection schemes weren't called because it wouldn't matter. I can't believe in this weather Mcdaniel didn't go Big package and run more. NFL coaches love to pass. If the NFL put a team on Antartica, don't laugh it may eventually happen, their coach would still try to pass.

When he threw it 8 yards short of the sticks on one of their 4th downs, I started screaming. And I'm a KC fan. I couldn't believe it.

Regarding the play at 4:30, the offensive line did nothing wrong. The line slid right as called. They picked up the blitzer #22 to the right as designed. Then Armstead slid right to pick up the other blitzer #23 (inside out,to your point) leaving the outside rusher #56 unblocked. Tua needs to get rid of that ball to his hot read or throw it away. This one is on Tua.

Buffalo figured out how to beat them and the blue print was there. The head coach is not the guru that people thought. For some reason Miami is terrible at adjustments and that is on the coach. Everyone will blame Tua but the coaching has been terrible for weeks.

Is there a single thing Tua should be held accountable for to you? So far the cold, the line, the receivers don’t get open, Mcdaniel didn’t kick that one time. In this 3 hour game you managed to find the bare minimum analysis plays to absolve this QB of every and anything. The dolphins are running a daycare for Tua i guess

Tua’s height, inability to see receivers over the OL, and inability to consistently extend drives with his legs. That’s always been the difference between the phins and other playoff teams. This is the era of the mobile QB.

Put Tua up for trade and there will be no offers as far as looking at him for a starter. He's not awful but he isn't a QB that can put a team on his shoulders and win.

Bills fan here so take what I say with a grain of salt. However, Tua is not the guy. I really hope the Dolphins pay him and keep him around for a few more years. He is so deathly afraid of getting hit, so he panics and throws errantly when things aren't working perfectly for him. From what I can tell, Tua is a really nice guy, but he's like a co-worker who shows up to work and underperforms constantly with no accountability. McDaniel's seems to want to be friends with Tua, when he needs to coach him. Tua will win games for you in September and October when things don't really matter. When the game is on the line, how many times have we seen him fold?

KC defense played a great game! They seemed to have scouted tua well and knew what they needed to do to beat them and tua helped them out a bit too.

Tua played exactly like 90% of people thought he would in that weather vs KC who can play man defense well… the only concern for the chiefs was going to be if they could get the ball close enough for Butker to make a handful of FGs and get one TD… I rarely see a game play out so much like what I expected

They aren’t built for January. That’s just the reality that Dolphins fans are gonna have to accept with the way this team is constructed now. Chiefs, Bengals, Bills, & Ravens (teams with cold weather environments in January) aren’t going anywhere, so you’re gonna have to hope for the 1-2 seed every year to have a chance.

Tua looks great when everything is perfectly set for him and he can throw in rhythm, once a defense disrupts that and he is required to audible or extend a play he looks Average and his limitations are clearly exposed. That’s what separating him from QBs like J.Allen, L. Jackson and others.

This game reminded me of the '81 AFC Championship Game that went down in history as the Freezer Bowl that grounded Air Coryell. Difficult to compare Don Coryell's offensive scheme with Mike McDaniel's. In the '81 AFC Championship, "Air Coryell" was grounded due to their downfield passing attack in which the "O" line had to maintain their blocks in pass protection to allow Wes Chandler and Charlie Joyner to get open deep. With the poor footing on Riverfront's turf, it was not consistently possible, coupled with Dan Fout's inability to get a proper grip on the football. Forrest Gregg, the Bengals HC and a veteran of the Ice Bowl was well aware that the passing game would be ineffective and took away Chargers RB's James Brooks and Chick Muncie, a concept Don Coryell was uncomfortable with, grounding every option in what an otherwise prolific offense. The example is poor considering McDaniel's roots offensively are descended from Mike and Kyle Shanahan's offensive philosophy with some of Bill Walsh's wase coast passing concepts and the zonal running scheme that relies on wide zone running with the aforementioned zonal blocking which utilized on a frozen field is difficult to execute. If we are identifying this, Chiefs DC Steve Spagnola, or just "Spags" to Giant fans certainly pointed this out to Andy Reid during their weekly meetings. A lot of people don't watch the Chiefs every week so I feel like they don't realize how good their secondary actually is. Sneed and McDuffie are both excellent corners. Sneed didn't give up a touchdown all year. In the 6 games they played against playoff teams, they averaged 216 yds and 1 TD given up per game. 3 times they held the opposing QB to under 200 yds. Even they played the Dolphins in good weather, Tua still only threw for 193 and a TD.

Yea, bad game be Miami for sure. Mahomes didnt seem to be affected by the weather at all. Somehow, though, the KC offense couldn't finish drives and had to kick way to many field goals. They will still have to play better to beat top tier teams like Buffalo or the Ravens.

Tau needs to start weight training especially his shoulders. Building his shoulder strength will help with his overall arm strength. Forearm and grip strength can improve as well. I know when I was young and played baseball and I could throw a ball really well but I lifted weights. 10 plus years went by doing nothing when I joined a softball league. I was fast and could catch but they keep me mostly at first base because I had a weak arm. I went back to the gym and by the end of my second year I was playing left field and no body ran or tried to take extra bases on my arm. I think it can help him.

On the Waddle overthrow for the pick if that ball is catchable the prevailing defender had his back turned running with the receiver that could have been huge down inside the 20. The guy has been ruined by injuries he has no balls left ! He panics and because he has zero ability to run it’s an automatic negative play every single time he can’t get the ball out immediately! It’s a huge problem and in the bigger games against better teams it’s exacerbated exponentially ! Tua is now at best a competent back up his days as a potential franchise Qb are gone.
