I think what's important is he got more and more time towards the end of the season and got better. He'll be good next season.

eh not better just inconsistent, he was awful vs tampa
@markbarron7830
@markbarron7830 24 дня назад
I'm not sure why you consider the last play a mistake on Campbell. The D-Line flushed the quarterback from the pocket. The QB spy Anzalone took too aggressive an angle on Purdy and missed the tackle. That was the mistake.
@hattershouse710
@hattershouse710 24 дня назад
As a Lions fan it was average. But to be fair they didn't play him to his strengths and played him out of position most of the time. He should do better this year.
@sundrelstriker7513
@sundrelstriker7513 24 дня назад
I was just about to say this. Had him playing edge and de at times. Not his game. He's a pure mike.
@MrAndrewLawrence420
@MrAndrewLawrence420 24 дня назад
The biggest reasons for this was the Anzalone & Barnes were playing great at LB & because they struggled so much with that Jack LB & edge rusher (opposite Aiden obviously) so because they had 2 LBs playing so well they were just trying everything to generate pressure in the beginning middle of the season
@adgee5401
@adgee5401 24 дня назад
You weren’t in the room bro. You don’t knew what his strengths are or aren’t. They played him at edge due to injury and they wanted to have their best backers on the field.
@hattershouse710
@hattershouse710 23 дня назад
@@adgee5401 you don't need to be "in the room" to identify what the film says. Both things can be true by the way regarding them playing him out of position and them doing it out of necessity.
@cinuhhmon4207

@@adgee5401you’re right, Anazalone and DB were playing really good as the main backers. But Campbells strengths is playing as a pure Mike, which we didn’t do. It worked for the most part, and eventually Glenn gave him the reigns at Mike occasionally towards the end of the year where he had some really good games. It will be interesting to see him in year 2 with a new D-line

I mean he had almost 100 tackles splitting reps the entire season I think he’ll be alright….

Lmfao. Here it is! The infamous “He MakEs TaCkElS’ post. And the smugness after is the cherry. Here. Allow me. 125 tackles as a rookie-Ernie Sims. 111 tackles in 2004-Earl Holmes 112 tackles in 2001-Chris Claiborne 104 tackles in 2004- Teddy Lehman. Literally the dumbest point anybody makes is a high tackle number. Now here’s a huge super secret thing. Linebacker back up the line. No really. They clean up what the line funnels to them. Defensive tackles don’t actually make hundreds of tackles-they usually engage blockers and eat space for the LB to make the play. A guy can have 40 tackles in a game and if they’re all 7 yards down field, he didn’t do his job.

Exactly, Anzalone is spying him. I think Campbell is going to be a very good football player. I'm not sure why he keeps referring to Campbell as slow, he's a LB'er not a db.

Anzalone is always out of position a day late and a dollar short on every play
@johnboehmer6683

@@FlairVSSavage I'll never understand the Anzalone hate. Dude has made so many big plays, put up very impressive numbers for Detroit... and yeah, on occasion makes a bonehead play...like all do. He has unquestionably been Detroit's best coverage linebacker his entire time in, forces and recovers fumbles, gets a lot of tackles for loss, and a few sacks... Your words have no effect on anyone who knows football.

6'5 245lbs runs around 4.65. Butkus Award winner. 93 tackles and 2 sacks. He will be alright. People are way too rough on rookies. Once he stops thinking and just plays it will be scary for other teams.

The biggest thing that limited his snaps in year one had nothing to do with him, it was the development of Derrick Barnes, Barnes was so much better than he had been the prior year that he straight up took the starting job.

Lots of great points on this thread, I want to add that the biggest reason he didn’t play a lot early was because Derrick Barnes had played great.

I am hopeful Jack Campbell is the answer to Tight End Coverage though. He isnt as fast vs some of the outside speedsters but might be big and fast enough to not get crushed by the Kelce style TEs.

I am excited by Jack as I often mocked him as my 2nd pick in the 23 draft exactly where they took him. What held him back was exactly the last play you selected. He is a Mike LB. Not an edge rusher, not a Sam backer, not a DT. Put him @Mike for a decade, he will be solid. 🎬 👍🏾👍🏾#OnePride🦁

Veteran Pass Rusher Emmanuel Ogbah is only 30 years old. The Lions should take a flyer on him. If he fits this move could help the Lions get into the Super Bowl

I felt it might take Campbell a minute to develop and he was playing much better at the end of the year. I see DJ Reader helping Jack Campbell the most, even more than AH or Alim, because that second DT was not very consistent or much of a presence last season. McNeil, Reader, and Campbell seems like a pretty damned stout middle for the Lions D
