Schrader is a masterful writer, director. Him and Hawke's work on First Reformed is amazing, an instant masterpiece that will only keep growing in stature.
Schrader followed my band around to get the ideas for LIGHT OF DAY. We became pretty good friends. (Obviously) An endlessly fascinating fellow for sure.
I remember seeing that in the theatre when it came out. And you won't believe this but it's true. I was on the road in a cover band when I saw it. I think we saw it in some little town in Oklahoma (can't remember the name).
What a good and thoughtful conversation. Definitely inspires me to want to see "First Reformed." Also really interesting (sad) to hear the perspective of those inside the industry regarding the impact of the pandemic on their ability to do their work.
He shared a very interesting and unique approach to narrative structure. it seems a great way to come up with interesting premises that have built-in conflict. I hope you're taking care of yourself, Paul. The more Paul Shraeder stories this world gets, the better.
