In Marvel's Avengers Endgame we learned that Captain America is worthy of Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. That is a BIG revelation and it made me wonder - who else is worthy? The scene in Age of Ultron made it seem like no one else was worthy but I believe that over the course of the last few film, that answer is no longer correct. Who is worthy? Time to find out!

Groot is definitely worthy by these criteria, he sacrificed himself in the first guardians of the Galaxy movie and sacrificed his arm for Stormbreaker. And he is obviously not seeking violence.
@realMG420
@realMG420 4 года назад
That's a good point. But it's important to point out the the Groot we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Infinity War, and Endgame isn't the same Groot from the first Guardians movie. The first Groot died permanently, and the new one is his son.

@@realMG420 Yes, thanks for pointing that out. But also in GOTG volume 2 he risks his life to place the bomb on Ego's core, and in infinity war we see him lift Stormbreaker while giving it a new handle.

I think a big thing to consider would be Thanos’ elimination of the dwarves (minus Dinklage). In that moment I would argue he strayed from his goal of “half the population without prejudice” and pursued violence instead. Thoughts?
@sonnynoux3603
@sonnynoux3603 2 года назад
Well the dwarves are definitely a threat to him and his goals. In his mind they would be nothing more than a drop spilled to save half the universe. They are technically an obstacle to his success just like the Avengers so killing them was probably selfless in intention.

13:18, however by taking on that burden, he chose to do so because of his concern for his friend's lives. His exposure to gamma radiation made him feel confident that he would better endure the damage caused by the gauntlet, and he was indeed correct, as we later see with Stark.

I'd like to think Thanos _was_ worthy to weild Mjolnir... for a while at least. That is, until it became personal. The first time, he was indifferent, but in Endgame when he comes back through the use of time travel he says how much he's going to enjoy killing them because now he's actually mad. I do believe they also have him specifically avoid trying to grab Mjolnir in the animation of the fight scenes... but maybe I'm just remembering wrong (I'd also like to note that Stormbreaker doesn't have the same enchantment that Mjolnir has, though it must have something slightly similar, given the scene where cap catches it).

Hulk is the only one who could lift the hammer, not out of being worthy, but out of strength alone. He has done it in the comics. It was stated that to those unworthy, Mjolnir is the weight of a mountain. Someone also calculated it's weight to those unworthy being about 1/8th the weight of the moon. A majority of characters we see try to lift it obviously couldn't lift a building. But Hulk has lifted 150,000,000,000 tons and shattered a meteor twice the size of Earth. It's doubtful that the MCU Hulk could lift it considering how much weaker the filmmakers made him than his comic book self. Heck, in the movies, he was challenged by Abomination, lost to the Hulkbuster, lost to Thanos without all 6 stones, and was actually hurt by using The Infinity Stones. Talk about a loose adaptation.

I think Star Lord is worthy because he gave his extraterrestrial powers from his dad to save his friends/universe and he also is just plain human,no powers like Captain America or extreme intellectual prowess like Tony,he also almost died to keep one of the stones safe in one of his movies. I also think that Hulk said"Its like I was made for this."because he needed a reason for himself to justify all of the bad stuff he has done by telling himself that he was kept alive/created to save the universe and his friends.

@Darth Dämon I mean yea I don’t like Iron boy. But earlier in the film Thanos mentions how the snap is meant to be quick and painless. But for Peter its not quick or painless, the reason Peter took longer to disappear. Was because his body was trying to heal itself while being damaged. Plus as Stated the Spidey Sense, warned him of what was happening. So the entire time he was put into a state of panic.

I realised something, while our man was talking about Captain Marvel. The shown scene, where Marvel said “Because before you didn’t had me!”. She said that, not entirely of confidence, but because she is the only member of the Avengers that can consume energy based power like the power stone. While holding back Thanos near the end of Endgame’s war, she was actually constantly consuming energy from the Power stone. It was not long before Purple Titan takes the stone and blast her away, but that to me is a confirm strategically-confident self-sacrifice. Because she didn’t help them on Earth, the Avengers lost!

True. If it’s like Black Widow, Who was willing to die, then yes, it’s the ultimate Sacrifice both Ways for Hawkeye and Widow. If it’s like Thanos and Gamora, you’re literally just killing someone against their will to further your goal.

Actually that is exactly what a sacrifice is, the slaughter of an animal or person to appease a God or supernatural entity (in this case the soul stone). The willingness of the victim is not a concern unless it is self sacrifice. Did you think all those animal and human sacrifices through the ages volunteered?

Darkamora honestly probably not
@jumpybananas5249

@@darkamora5123 Right but sacrificing Gamora, as the kind of sacrifice you're talking about, will not make him worthy. Which is the point.

Now looking bac on this, with the newest Thanos video with the Celestials Thanos is having an even bigger case for being worthy If he did know about the Celestials and what they cause, his actions were purely to help those who remain

great theorie but!!! the only reason we will probably never know if thanos philosophie matches the one of odin is because osin thought thos as a core lection to learn from his mistakes which is now up to odin if he would do it the same way again after seeing what he has done and locking away hela.

Now the real question Is the elevator worthy?
@Iliadic

No, but the coat rack is.
@BiggyDoable

An elevator is worthy because it is only as sentient as the rest of the universe given it's inanimateness
@HeavyMetalMouse

Assertion: If you are wearing gloves, and try to lift Mjolnir, it still checks your worthiness. Likewise if the hammer were set on a pillow and you tried to lift the pillow (and the hammer with it). Being a charm placed by Odin (who knows a fair bit of 'magic'), the Worthiness Check would not be fooled by something so simple as "I'm not touching you" Conclusion: The elevator can raise the hammer only if the person pushing the Call button is Worthy. :3

Actually yes and no because it is not a person like vision he can lift the hammer because he is not a real living thing and if the table wasn’t worthy to hold Thor’s hammer the table would have broke so yes the elevator is worthy

Cole Kuffel That’s a solid statement but you gotta remember that the one who said those words was the past Thanos, angry that his plan failed. Matt talks about the present Thanos in his theory, or at least that’s what I get from it. Surely past Thanos wouldn’t have been close to being worthy since that Thanos was more of a violent Thanos but the present Thanos was more pacific and only did violence to fulfill his ultimate goal which, in his own twisted world, was for the balance of the universe.
