Help! We added grain to our short using FilmConvert Nitrate, and now we can't export it without the grain pixelating, no matter what settings we use. It's not for youtube (maybe later, but our immediate intention is festivals, and use on physical media). We're using premier pro, any assistance HUGELY appreciated!

When you change project resolutions, say from HD to UHD, do you have to change the grain settings or do they scale with the timeline settings?

I remember this being an issue with the original FilmConvert in Resolve. I had a 1080p timeline and the grain size was way too big when set to 35mm. I wonder if it's fixed now?

In resolve yes. In HD the grain is 4 times bigger then in UHD.

RU-vid hates grain A LOT! I usually stay away from adding grain at all, when I know that I will upload a video to RU-vid. The compression algorithm of RU-vid is: you a no-name (like me), I will compress the hell out of your video, cause nobody cares... IF YOU ARE a bigger channel (over couple of thousands, maybe even 10k or more), then it uses another codec to "less" compress your video, but still compress it. I have tested this on different occasions, in the past and recently: you add grain, on top of the compression from RU-vid, then your footage will look like sh/&/((). You won't need any "dehancer" plugins, for that matter... So, recently, I was thinking: if I add grain only in the highlights, will it still "crush" my footage? Cause compressed videos on RU-vid, have those ugly looking "blocks" in the shadows... Anyone, any thoughts on this?

Exactly! I also increased the grain more than usually, if I wanted to see any "grain" on RU-vid. If you click the "Settings", then "Quality" and lower the resolution from 240p onwards, you can see what RU-vid actually looks like on most phones (720p), by default, when not viewed in the "RU-vid" App, but in browser like Safari, Opera etc.
