As a camera operator I get to play with a lot of interesting gear and on this shoot I got to use my favourite ( but bloody expensive ) zoom lens - the Cine-Servo Canon 50-1000mm. We also had to do our best to dodge the elements!

This is a job that people often think would be the coolest job in the world but in all honesty I spend most of it in a tent or dodging the rain every year! Cut most of that out to show the toys and some form of entertainment!

That seems like an awfully difficult camera movement to pull off while also racking focus. That last take seemed almost too perfect. Great skills man. Out of curiosity, what was your success rate?
@curlsoncamera
@curlsoncamera 4 года назад
I had 6 rehearsals and 8 live runs, focus was nailed every time (setting up marks on the focus dial and using peaking) but the framing wasn't always perfect. The whip at the end was quite difficult but that's to be expected being that tight.

@@curlsoncamera Yeah man, I was already more than impressed as he was coming down the mountain and then all of a sudden you started going for that whip and I was like ohhhh no, that's insane.

Nice vid. Most random shit at the end of it...love it! :-D

What random stuff at the end?
@redirisvideo8904
@redirisvideo8904 5 лет назад
@@curlsoncamera A guy spitting water in slowmotion, I would call that quite random as it's not connected to the story you conveyed throughout the video 😂

Just a slow motion outro for the end cards

How'd you adapt the lens to a-mount with the physical focus link?
@curlsoncamera
@curlsoncamera 11 месяцев назад
The demands control the lens only, they don’t go through the camera.
@detachsounds

Are you also pulling focus at the same time?
@curlsoncamera
@curlsoncamera 5 лет назад
Yeah, in the left hand I have my focus demand which ended up being about 180° pull at the end of the shot.

Could you please advise me on how to improve my smooth object tracking while filming ? I did try so many different things. I’m filming fast moving jets in 4K 60 FPS

@@curlsoncamera Thank you ! My tripod is Sachtler FSB 8 . I do have a problem with tracking. Sometimes it’s not always possible to keep an object or fast moving jet in the centre of the frame. Any tips ?
