I've watched several of your videos and have been pleased by what I've learned. You don't waste my time with extended intros or an elaborate opening VTR, you focus on the topic in your title, the links are useful, and your advice is sound. Thanks - you landed a new subscriber.

I know this is 2 years old but it was very helpful. My biggest takeaway from this is how compact and portable your setup is. I'd be doing multiple trips back and fourth to the car for setup. Also it presents a strong case for a just-in-time approach vs actual live streaming in some cases.

I’d love to see an update for this. I’m interested in recording live bands in crowded rooms where cables can’t be run. I want to have 2 stage cameras and 1 rear room singer-cam (or hand held by an assistant). The venues are often basements. Live stream is a want, but it would be so cool to be editing live as moments happen on stage. Love this channel!

For the power supply you can use a V-Lock battery mounted on a V-Lock plate which has multiple outputs each with it’s own voltage such as 5, 8, 12, and 14.5 volts. They’re sometimes called a V-Lock ‘pinch’. I use the Tilta V Mount Battery Plate V2 which has 2x 12 volt outputs, plus then you could also use splitters to get more devices connected as V-Lock batteries are designed for energy thirsty cameras.

There's a edison tri-tap design that seems to be designed with power bricks in mind. They usually come in white plastic, and they are about an inch and a half by inch and a half squares with grounded outlets on three sides and you can plug three bricks in at right angles from each other and you just use an extension cable for the power source. Saves a lot of room on the power strip. You should check it out.

For power supply the Harley Benton Powerplant series might be a solution for you. Some of the outputs are configurable between 9-12-18 Volt and the outputs are electrically decoupled, so no ground loops. Current is limited to 500mA though. Might not have enough oumph for power hungry devices.

Great demo of how you can scale down and still produce good quality coverage. Agree about the power brick conundrum, I did once daisy chain from my camera's d-tap output (the camera was running on mains) using d-tap to 12v cables and that worked fine, but obviously your Canon cameras won't support that.

Out of curiosity I went to see the streaming you did, I must say excellent result. Great !! Too bad that the Picture in picture impacts the slides, they could study 2 DVE so the sources could be placed side by side. I also use Atem and Vmix to be able to do something more, the problem that all the cameras come from the Atem and therefore I can only make effects with other sources. However I know that you are very strong with streams and I often watch how you organize yourself technically.

Nice video on functionality. Nobody seems to mention that the output video quality is substandard. Notice the blacks in this video (e.g. the shirt) and in other videos using the ATEM. I returned my ATEM and went back to my Camlink 4k because of the significantly color / contrast issues. It is maybe hard to see unless you are actively looking and view them both side by side. I want to love the ATEM so much, but can't accept the downgrade in video quality compared to other capture solutions.

Power Brick Problem: You could build a power plant, from an old PC Power Supply. Take one out of an old small form factor PC, like HP or DELL they are around 4"x4". Use the yellow (+) and black (-) for 12V DC. You have lots of 12V DC yellow wires and should get 10 to 20-AMP's of total power output. Some PSU's are smaller and might even be fanless. There are videos that show how to jump green wire to black on motherboard connector, to turn on PSU that is not in a computer connected to MB. Find some old wall-wart power plugs with correct plug for your equipment, to cut off and connect to PC PSU (save originals) that you are using to make your Power Plant. Of course, all this is if you are comfortable DIY building and plugging your equipment in this way. (At Your Own Risk!!) I did this once for a computer lab, where I had 3 or 4 LCD monitors that did not have the factory power plugs anymore and needed 12V DC. Worked great. You would be making something like this, but with higher AMP rating than this one, with only 5 AMP's. Plus the DIY one, made from old computer PSU, would have 5V DC as well if needed. www.amazon.com/ARyee-Adapter-Charger-Security-Surveillance/dp/B07CYMXSTW/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Small+12DC+power+supply+with+multiple+plugs&qid=1583808927&sr=8-2

Wanted to add, you can also cut your Power Adapter plugs cord at about the half-way mark, and put Molex connections on to disconnected and plug into Power Plant wires. This way you don't have to find donor ones and would have the nice screw-on one for ATEM Mini connection. See Amazon link below. Aaron, thanks! As usual, I’m late to the party and, naturally, way over my head! Do enjoy your in-depth, comprehensive videos on things and much appreciate the help you’ve given me on getting familiar with the ATEM Mini!. Got mine yesterday, finally! And experimented with it last night. Incredibly easy and so beautifully plug-n-play! Connected a Panasonic GX85 directed at my table workspace, an iPhone 6S running FilmicPro (in landscape!!) directed at me, and my 2017 12.9 iPad Pro running Keynote. The output via USB-C is to my MBP laptop logged into a Zoom session. This is all to do an online sketching & painting class. MY QUESTION: when I look at my 12.9 iPad Pro with Keynote slide, it’s reversed. However, when I send it (“Input #3) to the “Program,” it displays properly to viewers. Is it possible to correct the display on my 12.9 iPad Pro to display correctly so I can read the slide before switching to it?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
I've never heard of Keynote showing a slide in reverse, but I guess if you're seeing it reversed on the ipad itself it would be a setting in keynote? Zoom will also mirror the image you see in zoom of yourself, which is normally preferable, but if you've got text on the screen then you'll probably want to disable that. It's a setting in zoom.
@BillBooz

@MaverickMario

Probably super late, but you can power most things using a DC barrel Jack splitter and a 60W DC Barrel Jack power supply. That way you have between 2 and 5 DC Barrel outputs to one input (depending on the splitter you get). I use that on most of my set ups and it works great, and if you have a DC to DTAP cable, you can even power the whole thing off of a V Mount battery or other DTAP power supply. Its saved me a lot of headache and made my setup more portable.

Funny how I clicked 'Like' before I even watched your video :) I'm doing a live event in two days and it'll be interesting to see wether I will survive it. My setup will be slightly different as I will be using Zoom to livestream: I will be at the back of the room with the laptop running Zoom and livestreaming as a 'Host' with two cameras' feed coming from ATEM Mini (love that little thing!!!!) - one close up and the other wide shot while the presenter will be at the podium set up as a 'Panelist' and sharing his slides on Zoom (HDMI hardwired to the projector too) . So I should be able to swich between slides and video feed within Zoom itself and just use ATEM Mini to switch between two cameras. Getting the audio feed from the PA system into Mini. Well, that's the theory in my head anyway :) Will do a dummy run tomorrow to see if it works as I imagine. P.S. First time ever doing something like that.

There's nothing particularly clever about my setup, just need to be aware of some networking concepts. You need to make sure both devices are on the same subnet (easy example is the ATEM having an IP address of 10.0.0.5 and the iPad 10.0.0.6, with netmasks of 255.255.255.0) and sharing an Ethernet connection. You could probably plug the iPad directly into the mini, or you can plug them both into a network switch or router.

Very helpful. Just wondering why is the RODE wireless mic connected to the camera, instead of one of the Mic input in the ATEM Mini? What about the audio input for the other camera?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 3 года назад
So when I filmed this, the ATEM Mini didn't have the audio delay feature yet. That means the easiest way to get the audio in sync is to run the audio through a camera so that it matches already by the time the signal reaches the ATEM. With the latest firmware update, the audio from the 1/8" inputs can now be delayed to match a camera so that isn't as important anymore, although running it into the camera is still fewer steps. The other reason to run it into the camera is that you can record on the SD card in the camera in order to have a backup video feed with good audio in case everything with the ATEM gets messed up somehow. The audio in the second camera doesn't matter since I'm only going to cut to that angle occasionally and I'll end up mixing it with the good audio from the main camera.

Awesome video, sir! I am setting up my rental venue for live streaming. Something I would love to know- What can use to input into my ATEM what the presenter is outputting from their laptop into my projector? I don’t need something as fancy as the two channel device you used here, nor do I need to use a wireless connection. I simply need to be able to ‘split’ the output from their laptop into both my ATEM and into my projector. Thanks!

Serious question, how much do you charge for something like this? There is a lot involved. You're only recording for about an hour and a half but Including prepwork, live editing, etc. I would think $6-7k?
@Sarge92
@Sarge92 3 года назад
id doubt that as he said 30 mins setup so well assume 30 teardown also so 2:30 work time im not saying he is bad but for what hes doing paying several thousand dollars a hour is a wee bit steep id say a job like this would either be flat rated out at something like a grand or 2 or done hourly at under 200 a hour with a call up fee of 500 just to show up if your trying to price this yourself figure out what you need to be making hourly and price off that take into account your expenditures costs equipment fees buisness fees all that jaz

In this arrangement I'm recording onto the SD card from the Video Assist (the small monitor). Now that the ATEM Mini Pro is out, it can record to a USB drive itself so this setup would be even better with it now!

Great videos! I have to do something similar to record classes. The atem mini is in the mail so haven't gotten to test yet. One question is this: I will be getting clean audio from a soundboard into my camera and recording on sd card as backup then running that signal thru the mini and recording MP4 to OBS (while mixing in other video signals). After going through all these steps and connections do you think there will be a problem with a few frames delay so the audio doesn't sync exactly with the video of the presenter talking? I'm trying to avoid any post production premiere pro fixing at all. Thanks
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
It should be perfectly in sync like that. The only trouble is when you have the audio coming in from the 1/8" on the mini and video from HDMI, although I've heard that the latest firmware update helped that a lot too.

i haven’t used that camera. does its USB-C port output a video? if you can use a regular USB-C to HDMI adapter to get an HDMI signal out of it then it’ll work with the atem mini. but in my experience, that style of camera typically only supports video out through a built in HDMI port. let me know what you find out though!

There isn't really any color processing in the ATEM, you'd have to add them in the camera or an external HDMI monitor before the ATEM
