This game is basically an interactive anime. It even has ad breaks and blurbs for the next "episode" at the end of each one, all to make it feel like the real deal. This game is truly one of a kind. Good thing the story is awesome and the gameplay fun. The only thing missing is a kickass opening theme song.

the gameplay is subjective. It is pretty much the worst part of the game. The sound mixing is sadly all over the place, but yes the story is great if you just take it for what it is.

Oh my god, what a nice surprise to see this. Asura's Wrath is my favourite game of all time (yes despite it needing more gameplay and better audio mixing and more work in most individual disciplines). To me, Asura's Wrath is testament of why creative media can be so amazing. The over exaggeration of real life emotions and principles to clearer convey them. To have a set something they want to convey and have every part, from visuals to music to dialogue and cinematography be in support of this something (A concept I refer to as informative clarity, reducing the amount of things that your brain needs to parse that do not support this "something" and increasing the amount of things that do support it, simple example would be if you want to convey heat use less cold colours and more warm colours etc). It lacks in gameplay but my god it makes up for it in going above and beyond to convey what it wants to convey. The core story is simple and relatable, a father loving his daughter and wanting to protect her smile. Playing this game makes you feel pumped with adrenaline and testosterone, mashing buttons cheering for asura while grand and epic music plays in the background. It carries the essence of creative vision. It is a game that makes you feel something. It is an experience. It takes you on a ride.

im not nearly as observant as someone like kai here i never noticed the grafical stutter or screen tear till he pointed it out today, its impressive there issint more like pop in considering how old the game is, wish there could be an azuras wrath 2. oh well we have bayonetta... thats got the same over the top badass anime spirit!, she head butts a sky scrapper into a giant space laser!!!!! god what a woman~....

asura's wrath is not just a gem, a true TOPAZ of a game, its uniqueness will always resonate and it's quality and unapologetic coolness is great. i am glad i was there to love it at the time and it still stays with me, it is such a buddhist game, as an old kotaku article said. i ams o happy to see your conclusion Kai, great job bringing it here.

It's wrath not rage (except the part where he looses himself and rampages). Wrath can be righteous, has a purpose and can give you the power/strength to push through hardships. The difference is important in my interpretation.

- yes this game was made with the similar art style as street fighter 4! (PLEASE react to the Lost Episode DLC 1 and 2 for a nice surprise) - yes, this game was pushing the 360/ps3 to the MAX when this came out, thats why you see fps drops etc - no it wasn't released episodically, they just treated it like an anime - bah weep granah weep nini bong!!!

Yes this was on ps3 and 360 and unreal engine 3. More importantly every single cutscene besides the clearly animated ones are real time meaning they are not videos but rendered in real time with the power of the consoles. Yes this game was pushing the limits of real time cutscene direction at the time which is why there is so much screen tearing. This is also backwards compatible on Xbox one and series consoles and there isn't any screen tearing. The Xbox 360 though was the lead platform for the game so even on the original consoles the 360 had a lot less distracting screen tearing than ps3 which was absolutely struggling trying to render this games cutsenes.

With an emulator (Like RPCS3), you can play this game on PC with 60 FPS and clearer/improved visuals and less tearing etc (with the right settings) (it will make some of the QTE harder though since they are quicker on higher-than-intended fps. Game wasn't meant to run at 60 fps) I also gotta say the video or videos you picked to react to are....pretty bad. Skipping the fight sequences and their burst ends (which are really important), skimming through the intermission screen texts and so on, not even doing many of the QTE. I would have honestly recommended just playing the game yourself, since that wouldn't have taken you much longer than just watching the cutscenes to be honest. Massive part of this game's experience is playing it yourself with all the QTE etc. Completely hits differently than just watching. Absolute shame you had to cut some of the most pivotal moments though.

You need to see Final Fantasy 16 cutscenes. There is 10 hours of them, but there is some true Asura's Wrath type of content in some places, but in modern level of tech xD

I believe this is not the original dub that you watched. I believe there is an asian dub like most anime. The audio might have been better. Because I know that the voice actor for asura had one of the best scream in video game history, where it tells everything you need to know, how he feel, the pain he must go through and the sadness ha can only express through wrath.

The English dub in the game is better than the Japanese dub. Also it's Liam O'Brien that did that scream, even the Japanese dub decided to use it

Not going to lie, out of like a million different game movies of this game, this is one of the worse ones. Way too little time on Interludes, keeping in the snippets of next levels. Not to mention keeping the original quality of the PS3 release (There're upscaled versions and this game looks a whole lot better in a higher framerate). BUT WHO CARES. IT'S ASURA'S WRATH FOR GOD'S SAKE! Edit: going a bit further into the vid... Uhhh... The actual gameplay showcase for a QTE game is... sloppy. Yeah I have no idea why not go all out to show off one's ability to press a prompted button for that extra dopamine punch (get it?). Like I know it doesn't affect the game at large, but it's just more pleasant to watch with all the extra punching sounds. Makes it more immersive. Especially for people who can't get the emulator to work (I am one such people)
