"Who is the squirrel?" That my good sir is not a squirrel, that is Sir Nutkin, Defender of Decency! (those that know, know!)

The cat-eared outfitted lalafell displaying the new caster job is Krile, she has been part of the Scions since Heavensward but has not had any front-line role other than support, leadership at times and has very specifically gifted magic abilities to pinpointedly find pretty much anyone anywhere, so long as she can recognise their aether. She is a lovable bean that fans have bene wanting much more character development from, even though we did get quite a bit for her during Endwalker.

The squirrel is a running joke in the game. You see, at one point Thancred found himself in the buff, and in the flashbacks while he's telling this story, the squirrel was... shall we say, strategically placed. He then kept the squirrel as a pet, so you see it was just doing its job. Cockblocking Thancred. It is also known as a Nutkin for further hilarity.

Ishikawa is probably the writer you were thinking of. Before/during Endwalker, she transitioned to be a Lead/Manager of the writing staff after all of the amazing work she did with things like the Alchemist job quests, Dark Knight job quests, and most notably, Shadowbringers MSQ. She still gets in on some things, I believe she did some of the Endwalker post game story, but she isn't as involved on the day to day writing, but overseeing and helping to deliver the overall image. So still heavily involved with production process. And yes, she is a beloved member of the staff. I got to attend the Fan Fest in Vegas this year, and while she was on stage, she got a rousing cheer/chant from the crowd, bringing her to tears. It was an incredible moment to show support to someone that has given us something so amazing. The squirrel is called Nutkin and was a censor to Thancred's... nuts when he recalled how he emerged from the Lifestream naked during post Heavensward. XD The character as the Pictomancer is Krile which you meet during post Heavensward (before you encountered the Warriors of Darkness) and has appeared several times in MSQ since then.

The lion woman is a new character called Wuk Lamat , yes she's a hrothgar (basically the Ronso from FFX), and a character who has only been revealed in-game as a pair of legs. Originally you could only play as male, leaving the fan-base wondering what they'd look like since 2019. I'm enthralled by their designs and can't wait to play as one!

The class being premiered by Krile (the cat ear hooded lalafell and callback to FFV, via name and grandfather) is called Pictomancer, which is 100% a FFVI/Relm nod.

I remember in Phil's stream when he first met Estinien, he said something to the like of "Wait, is it just me or is the cinematography suddenly better when this guy's on screen?" Another great breakdown, Phil! One exciting thing about this Dawntrail stuff is that they've been planting seeds about this "New World" in the lore since at least A Realm Reborn, and possibly even the original XIV 1.0, so these lands have been speculated about in the fandom for a decade.

As a heads up, the XIV x XVI crossover event happens in early April! You can get Clive’s red corset outfit, Vindictus, a Torgal mount, and a puppy!Torgal minion in FFXIV! It likely will only be a few weeks, so it’s going to be VERY unlikely that it will still be active during the launch period of Dawntrail. And it will likely be at least 18 months before a rerun of the event. So you’ll definitely want to consider that.

You say G'raha Tia as "gra-hah tee-ah" And several people have mentioned the lalafell is Krile, but she and her grandfather Galuf are named for a grandfather and granddaughter from FFV

Nah the Lalafel with the new Pictomancer job isn't a new character. Thats Krile, she's been in the story for a while, but has been more of a support in the main crew. Now that they gave her this new Job in Dawntrail, she can finally join in combat with the rest of the Scions!

"guh-RAW-HAH-tea-ah". The "tea-ah" syllable definitely trends toward "chi-ah" for many speakers. Lala woman in yellow is Krile, introduced in Heavensward, a Sharlayan scholar and healer who spends through Endwalker firmly as a non-combatant support cast character.

one thing i always loved about the Estinien reveal is when he twirls his lance and it kicks up some water...nothing major but its a nice detail

If you like Estinien and dragoons, you'll love Heavensward. The expacs are fantastic--even better than the main story.

i love how even the fight seems more of a sparing match than to the death, Wol is seen almost grinning throughout the match as if he's enjoying it rather than anything serious. I am honestly so down for a much more chill adventure vibe of a story given that last few have been pretty heavy.

The Viper class appears to be based on Zidane from FFIX, as Zidane would separate his blades to use them independently and could connect them hilt to hilt to use as a large dual-weapon. I think it was called a swallowtail in FFIX, but that could have just been a single one of the weapons that stuck with me.

Krile is the lala, she's actually encountered as early as Heavensward, maybe sooner don't remember, she just becomes a lot more important in Endwalker since she lives in Sharlyan

The new areas are heavily inspired by the americas. The area in this trailer has a lot of aztec and mayan inspiration in aesthetics, and across the bridge has areas that look like texas or other parts of southern US. One even has that wild west vibe. lol

Pictomancer is sung by the divine Amanda Achen, there are high d notes in there, it’s not a guitar riff!

8:00 its also funny to see that even the WoL since the Stormblood Trailer again in good mod, in the Shadowbringer and Endwalker Trailer he is always more.. angry, tired, depressed its this feeling "I have enough of this shit but i must go forward!" now is again more like "Yeah this will be fun!"

Krile's changed her job into a pictomancer like Relm from FF6, but her character itself is an homage to Krile Baldesion from FF5

I know you were looking for the female race at the end. It's the Hrothgar ladies. :D So, yes, you were correct towards the end!

There are also videos for the new class called Pictomancer ... as well as as you guessed a new waell half of a race Hrohgar for player characters - specifically Hrothgar Females are will become available for character creation. With Shadowbringers the game introduced for players 2 new races each originally gender restricted: Viera - bunny people - were limited to only females so bunny girls basically Hrothgar - Large cat people more well furry .... were limited to males In Endwalker they then added Bunny Boys with introducing Male Viera and now with Dawntraile they are finishing the set with Female Hrothgar ... The last new race option for a bit. Also the Lalafel character showcasing the new class is Called Krile ... she is an ally that makes her first appearance in HW through she is more a back line rear character until well now recently lamenting her inability to help her friends directly on the frontline

I hope that the eye reference will be related to Zenos. He always talks about Us becoming "slavering beasts" and whatnot, so it would be cool if we actually became more of a brutal uncaring character and had flashbacks to Zenos evaluations of us

Usual problem of the FF14 trailer, zero story and even what it shown won't be like that in game. Clearly the worst trailer by far was Shadowbringer, which was a complete lie, the trailer telling you that there will be all this suffering, the failure, being abandoned, even fought by the light and you switch sides, but instead you just stay the plot armor murder hobo who just wins by existing and the antagonists all dumb. This also ruins all tension meanwhile, because you got these big guys in there or that fire god like thing, but who cares? WoL is the invincible ultra god (without any voice or character) and Estinien is right next to that, the master of mega slaughter who just crushes everything as he pleases, even more powerful than ever after he lost the power of the dragon eye - what makes no sense, but who cares. Square just doesn't care. They not focus on keeping the fans by throwing shallow anime shit at them and IG merchandising for dozens of dollars, milking the game as long as they can. It's pretty disgusting. FF14 could have become such a good game, but they got the absolute worst developer/publisher who ruined it - and the fans who cheer for that shitshow while brutally attacking anyone who doesn't are part of the problem. There is a reason that FF14 lost so many players and had to replace them with fake advertisement by luring in replacement - who meanwhile also left, since they realized the had been lied to.
