"Its like modern cyberpunk." YUP. This show is a big part of showing us that we are even living IN a cyberpunk world right now, its just way more boring than fiction led us to believe it would be. This show absolutely nails cyberpunk.

OH HELL YES. Mr. Robot is one of my all time favourite shows, it is insanely good. Enjoy the ride, here for every moment! The cinematography, acting, soundtrack, story, characters, journey is mind-bendingly good.

I truly can't wait to partake this journey with you. The hacking is extremely realistic by the way; Pretty much 1:1 with reality. Although it is not that futuristic, this is one of the best pieces of cyberpunk fiction there is. Also one of the best soundtracks in television.

I think you'll really love this show.. Sam Esmail is a huge film lover and he pays homage to both classic and modern film throughout the series. He also incorporates his own experimental style (which might feel just a little self-indulgent at times) but it really is exceptional. Cheers to your 1st episode, looking forward to more!

One of my favorite series, I find the totality of the journey so satisfying and cathartic.

Longtime listener, first time caller. I'm excited for you to get into this show. I don't rewatch this as much as I do other shows I like because it gets to be an emotional roller coaster but I'm always happy to see this show get some love.

Dude... No show has come close to the absolute perfection this show is. Not only the technical side, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the storytelling, the acting is otherworldly, but also the story in itself is deeply human and realistic. Is heartbreaking but also inspirational. This show is both a love and hate later to humanity.

Mr Robot is brilliant. I'm so glad they didn't milk it. The cinematography is crazy good and each season has one episode where they really try something cool out, such as an episode that has almost no dialogue, an episode that is done like a theatrical play etc. Such a creative show.

I've always loved his character. While he is flawed, he bends toward good. That's not only real, but it's the best any of us can hope for.

One of the best TV show in recent years, to say the least. It's a fantastic journey!! Editing, cinematography, music, acting, everything about it is absolutely outstanding. It's a shame they only got one Emmy for the show, but it was very well deserved.

It's interesting to me how new viewers tend to immediately interpret Elliot's hatred of society as a hatred of people, even though as you pointed out, there are several moments of him displaying real warmth and humanity towards people he cares about, even just in the pilot. I think what a lot of this show is about, and why it's centered on such a strange, marginalized character, is the infrequently considered difference between hating society and hating people, and the reasons why loving people might drive you to hate society in the first place. There's clearly a grey area between the two, much of which the show explores, but at the end of the day, hatred of people is a personal flaw which you have to grow beyond, while hatred of society often reflects worse on your society than it does on you. Humanity, as a whole, could never fail you personally to a great enough extent to justify hatred, while society is capable of failing not only you but everyone you know and billions you don't, to an extent which justifies not only loathing, but violent opposition.

It's really neat how this show uses actual hacking techniques that have been employed by cyber criminals in a lot of real cases. When they've talked about cyber security at my work, they talk about how the people are the vulnerability more often than the systems. It's much easier for hackers to trick an employee into giving them some access, than to just computer their way into the system. It's now very normal for a company to send a fake email to their employees as a test to see whether any click what could have been a malicious link. In this show, they make a point to actually explain how the hack has taken place. Whether Elliot has gleaned a password from studying a target, or whether the hack required physically accessing the computer, there's an explanation for how they managed to breach a system beyond "this guy is so good at computers, he can just go anywhere."

Ive always thought of Mr Robot as a sequel to a Christian Slater movie called pump up the volume ( 1990 ) him in a new town , new high school making a pirate radio station behind his parents backs in the basement causing trouble . Lots of social commentary and uh again , lots of trouble .

Forgot how good this show was! Music and Cinematography are on a different level.

Best show ever. And I love how the conversation on the ferris wheel is like Neos conversation with Morpheus in the Matrix. Both Neo and Elliot have a splinter in their minds, a sense that something is wrong with the world.

When Mister Robot shouted "IT'S ROBOTING TIME!" at the end, I fell to my knees in the middle of a Best Buy.

You gotta review "HACKERS" after this. Not realistic hacking at all but stylistically awesome and a huge cult classic.

Is this your first time seeing Christian Slater in anything? You got to check out Heathers, Pump up The Volume, and my fav Gleaming The Cube (aka A Brother's Justice).

Mr Robot is my second favorite TV show just behind Twin Peaks. It's a stunning looking show and the visual storytelling is incredible and the score is incredible. You are in for a wild ride, enjoy!

This show grips you, but you grip back. Elliott needs us; he made an imagery friend to go on this journey with him. He needs someone who, like him, has no idea what is going on or what will happen. Without us, the imagery friend and viewer, this journey and TV show does not happen. We have to choose Elliott too for this to work. That a major theme in the show; Elliott often feels isolated or alone, but he never is. As the series goes on, you see him build relationships with friends, teammates, and yes, Mr. Robot. We're always there with him as he learns to understand that there are others there for him too. Relationships are difficult, but once you see the ending, you really understand how important we were to Elliott, and that's really unique and beautiful.

I know your a bit younger, but look into the the history of Enron. Huge terrible company that was at its peak awfulness in the late 90s-early 2000s. Just to understand a bit of what they were going for with Ecorp.

Love that you are viewing this, James, and love the commentary. One of my favourite series. Slows down a bit in season 2 but picks up strongly in the final 2 seasons. Looking forward to your viewpoint.

What I like about this is that it is honestly radical. Most shows and movies that are "radicals" do not show almost anything about changing the system. It is almost always just "bigotry and rich people or corporations are bad" in a very centrist and in still keeping the system kind of way. Virtue signaling just for the sake of it is just safe and boring.

Excited for you to experience this masterpiece of a show. Folks will naysay parts of it and there are a couple flaws, but the whole picture is just fantastic.

This show is amazing I need to pick it up again. I got busy with stupid work and didn't get into Season 4, but I love this show. James' mind will be blown so hard by this show.

If I had to describe this series in one word it would be Craft. Everyone involved with this show brought an element of artistry to their given craft. I'm constantly ping ponging between being engrossed in the story, and being in awe of the way in which it is told.

This is probably my favorite show of all time but the first season has been retroactively made worse (or maybe better lol) because it came out before the word "society" became a meme in and of itself and it leans so hard into Elliot being unwell and antisocial😭

Mr robot was awesome, mix Mr Robot and the Fargo and Marvel and then you get the Legion series

The thing that shocks me about this show is that it was allowed to be made and made commercially viable. It really hits the social zeitgeist of anger at the system that's been brewing for decades.

Mr Robot is one of those really rare shows that is an incredible story and the cinematography is absolutely phenomenal. You're in for a RIDE my dude. I love this show and its even better on a second rewatch. Good luck!

It took me 2 full viewings of this series, but it has become my favorite. Patience definitely pays off with this one. Criminally underrated. If it had been on a more prestigious channel or a streamer like Netflix, it would be mentioned alongside Breaking Bad and The Wire as an all-timer.
