Glad Succession won. It’s one of the few shows that starts out well but really does get better and better each season and then end it correctly and not pushing too long. The writing is 💯🔥

My top 5 shows are Daredevil, Better Call Saul, The Bear, Succession, and Sherlock so this is so dope. I’ve said it before but this channel is awesome, keep it up James.

Re: camerawork: Jesse Armstrong - creator/writer - pitched to HBO - the last of the major networks and the only one that wanted it - that the show needed 'Dogma 95' camerawork, which helped sell it. I love that detail. Adam McKay wanted the gig from that, he'd just finished The Big Short. The idea for this whole show dates back to '08. Jesse just couldn't get anywhere with it, doubted it, in fact. Wasn't until '16 when his US agent made him see what it could become. And re: the theme, Nicholas Britell, the composer said - if memory serves - it's all about duality, which is what the show has; elements of absurdity, but underneath there's a deep grandeur - there are human absurdities in the show, but then there's the darker side that is business, power, greed. Also, the classical piano part represents the Roy family as a whole, but the hip-hop beats over it is Kendall. There's a lot of notes being played over chords that aren't even in the scale of that chord, so the piece as a whole, like the family, is just off kilter, dissonant. Great reaction as per though, J!

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! So far, you've been picking some of my favorite shows to watch! Succession is one I've been wanting to see for awhile! You're gonna love this one. Some of the best character writing I've seen on television.

This is another one that really reels you in,like Mr. Robot. That camera work, the talent on scene, the score, the writing. The different world they live in is so absurd, but the problems are mostly everyone problems that are so believable. The camera draws reactions out of you with the zooms, shakes, focus and follows, serious props to the camera crew. It's a masterclass, start to finish, enjoy the game!

I was SO late to getting to Succession that anyone I know has long finished it. I'm just finishing the first season so this will be fun!

One of the best shows ever, Season 4 is up there with the greatest seasons ever made. Like you said 'you get thrown right into it'; this show does 'exposition' like nothing else, I believe there's no flashbacks in the entire show, it all happens organically.

I think the episode name is also a reference to the Danish film Festen (The Celebration). I highly recommend watching that as well.. one of the best films I've seen and this show also seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from it.

One great thing about this show is even if you don't understand anything about the business world you can still understand the stakes of every move just based on the performances - I never felt lost in this show no matter how far out of my wheel-house they went.

I do recommend watching the episode breakdown by the directors and cast at the end of most episodes if you’re watching this on Max. From your background I think you will enjoy those because they talk about some of their thinking and it’s usually not very long like 2-3 mins.

Great show but you should watch "severance" if you love mr robot. Its an amazing concept.
