A couple of years later, Jason Patric (Michael) was considered to play Jim in The Doors biopic. But the role went to Val Kilmer & the rest is history. Far as 80s vampire movies go I think Fright Night is my favorite because it shows more love to the classic monster movies, but Lost Boys is a real close second. Sam and the Frog brothers are hilarious, it's got great action, the vampires are cool and also a legit threat, and the dreamy cinematography is excellent. So glad I was in my late teens in1987. This was part of an amazing few Years, for classic 80's Blockbuster films and future cult classics, such as this and the under rated 'Near Dark'. We had 'Predator', 'Evil Dead 2', 'The Princess Bride', 'RoboCop', 'Hamburger Hill', 'The Brave Little Toaster', 'Raising Arizona' and 'Good Morning Vietnam'; Just to name a few. In fact, you could probably do a whole series, based on that year's Top 20 IMDb rated film's alone. There is also an IRL tragic story behind the young main lead actor. Sad, but worth the look into. Sexy jazz man scene is the most 80s thing in movie history. Also, where you talking about Kiefer Sutherland in Phone Booth?

This was originally supposed to be a PG movie with kids the same age range as The Goonies, but director Joel Schumacher convinced producer Richard Donner to make it an "R" rated movie with young adults instead to be a much more violent and MTV inspired style of movie. It was the correct decision.

It's kinda funny you mentioned The Goonies,. The one kid(Cory Feldman) who was part of the vampire killers duo, was in The Goonies.

This came out when I was in High School. 1987 with this and Near Dark were the rising edge of the vampire and goth stuff that happened in the 90s. Love this movie to death.

One of my fav films. I love the soundtrack too. It's weird seeing people watching it for the first time, then I remember how old I am lol.

The book from middle school you were thinking of was probably Peter Pan. The screenplay grew out of a discussion revolving around, "what if the lost boys from Peter Pan were actually vampires?". It kind of fits...in both cases, these were youths who would never get sick, never grow old, never die. "Stylish" perfectly describes this movie. MTV Films didn't happen until 1991, but I've always thought of "The Lost Boys" as the first MTV picture. Between the soundtrack, costuming, set pieces...one of the most '80s movies ever made, in all the best ways. And I still hold that Kiefer Sutherland played the best movie vampire of all time: the perfect blend of cool & intriguing with dark and creepy.
