The difference between season 1 and the rest of the show is the charm and happy moments. The humor is the same but it’s less cynical and sad.

Fun fact about Phyllis: she never actually auditioned or had screen experience before this roll. She was actually someone who sat in during the audition process and would read the other characters lines that weren’t being auditioned for at the time. The producers eventually decided that Phyllis was the perfect Phyllis.

Finally we get some Angela. She's hilarious.

I love the award ceremony and how emotional Michael gets.

The wholesome moments in this show hit

I think the reason the kiss at the Dundies is not addressed is because originally episode one was supposed to be episode four. But they decided to open the season with a nuclear blast to get people talking.

I love that you notice things like the camera people in the back seat of the car. They tried really hard in this show to only use realistic shots from what a documentary camera crew would actually capture. I’m pretty sure the main camera operator came from reality TV, so he is used to catching everyone’s reactions and capturing “hidden” shots where he’s hiding behind stuff. That’s why there’s so many hidden angles and realistic shots like from the back seat. There are some iconic moments that are super subtle to casual audiences, but known by people like you who pick this stuff up where the characters actually interact with the camera people. Where they bump into them, open doors for them, etc… it’s really cool, actually. The attention to detail is what sells the mockumentary style. You’ve already picked up on the boom mics peaking into the frame. I don’t think they intentionally caught the boom mics with the cameras, but it was an intentional decision to leave them in instead of reshooting or editing them out. And it only gets better, imo

Angela IS a cat lady. You can see it in future episodes.

This show does get hit with charm out of nowhere!! I think it’s because the American writers gave the show a sense of optimism, whereas the UK version is more pessimistic

The further you get into the office, you'll really start to appreciate the relationships and friendships more and more. Pam and Michael's friendship is really special and beautiful. Pay attention to how it builds. Also, you'll really start to realize how good of a person Michael really is. He may be oblivious and outright dumb sometimes, but you'll understand the more you watch.

On The Office Ladies podcast (hosted by Pam and Angela) they always have funny stories about the camera man being stuffed into the back seat of the car just to get those driving shots lol We leave the Office a lot more as the show continues and I love those episodes.

I love Phyllis. Every time she's on screen though, I only think of Sadness from Inside Out😭😭

This is another hilarious episode. Michael is getting a house that he’s unsure of while Dwight is there just laying things out in the most Dwight way possible and then at the office, Jim and everyone are doing Olympic Games. I think that's why I wouldn't recommend wanting to work in an office like The Office, because no office I've worked in have had enough charm or heart to make the toxic elements worth it. I guess that's why the show is so much easier to watch than live through for me

James would love Peep Show or some other British sitcoms for the cringe. UK Office? Inbetweeners?

Iirc, the first season they were trying really hard to replicate the original UK show, but starting the second season they really started to grow into their own and lean into the characters and their relationships more.

FYI, the realtor in this episode is Steve Caarell’s actual wife in real life.
