I LOOOOVE RED FLAVOR WITH ALL MY HEART! This has got to be my favorite song from them. Even though they have a more “mature” type of sound now, I always go back to this track! Their dance performance is intense and entertaining at the same time which makes it more appealing in my opinion😋❤️💕
"Joy is hairy on the outside" - kpop quote of the year so far lol One of RV's most fun tunes, and a really fun video too. Very much fit the summer vibe. Fun fact about the fruit interview scenes with the graphics and text, if you notice the mid to lower right-hand side, the girls are there signing out the interviews and actually learned sign language for the MV in order to make sure their signs made sense
The song is about coming of age and being mature! In the first scene, they're interviewing fruits who (in the text running below) describe their growing up. The fruits they're interviewing actually represent themselves! Thus you see them in the MV doing things related to coming of age; like partying, graduating (Wendy wearing a graduation cap and gown). In the lyrics they also relate growing up to falling in love and letting lose of themselves in a summer romance. I really like this song because it sounds so fun and heart warming, in a way. Especially that last note from Wendy.
The video is, I think, surprisingly thematically cohesive (even if the themes are a little simplistic). I interpret it as being broadly about growth and coming-of-age through the lens of the summer season. In the Fruit-terview scenes, the members seem to be interviewing their "representative" fruit with interest and concern. In these scenes, shots swap them with the fruit and back, and at one point we get a zoom-out where we see Seulgi is even operating the boom-mic (best comedy shot in the video imo). The quotes in the ticker are in various languages but generally surround the process/experience of reaching "maturity" but written from the perspective of a fruit. To me these scenes are kind of a visualized internal monologue (dialog?), the process of coming to know and understand oneself that everyone goes through in adolescence. The rest of the imagery is either focused on illustrating the fruit/growth metaphor (sprouts exiting the ground, being watered, newly emerged oranges), or fleshing out some of the summer/coming-of-age aspects (the more grounded house sets, the cap-and-gown, the house party set-up, the plane footage for summer vacation). I also noted that the sets are very simple, non-opulent locations, or completely naturalistic, or completely abstract. It keeps the RV flavor (with the weird psychadelia) but the lack of ornate/extravagant sets and even wardrobe makes the whole video feel grounded and "relatable" to some extent. In any case, loved your reaction! You always seem to find one or two editing or visual touches that I don't notice at all. This song is an all-time classic for me.
@@reaKtpop Darn, well no spoilers but I think you will love it, musically and the cinematography are top tier and my favourite DC title track, had it on repeat for hours after release already :)
Not sure if there is much to get out of it, but there is an orchestral version of Red Flavor. There isn’t much story, but the editing choices maybe something to talk about.
I saw a video that showed a little behind the scenes of their videos. The Red Flavor one they were in front of a huge green screen like you suggested. Of course they probably did have some sets for some of it. With the airplane shot. You can see the aileron on the wing move and the airplane is reacting to it. So I think they really did just take a shot out of a airplanes window.
I kinda thought maybe the airplane was a smaller model which they filmed in front of a screen and then added the footage in the back. Maybe it’s real though that could totally be the case too 😆
Sarah, when you come back, please react to Dreamcatcher's BEcause. It's their summer comeback after Odd Eye. I know you love them and I think you will love their new music video too. Best regards and be safe!
