The creative director of this MV is actually one of the members, Justin (he has a degree in multimedia arts & I think he majored in filmmaking). He is the youngest. And all the other members contributed to the entire concept, including how the shots should look like, the camera angles, the feel of the sets, etc. Everything was done by Filipinos - including the video editing and vfx. The diner is real, it’s in Makati City (Poblacion). The fork dropping indeed means a guy is about to arrive. :)
Yep, the utensil drop is a harbinger of a visitor: fork male, spoon female. Lives on in some Spanish cultures too. WYAT is exactly a fan reconnection song promoting a tour that includes a whirlwind month long international leg. Would be great to see your continuing reaction to the docu series!
If we can support talented Koreans we can also support our talented kababayans, specifically SB19. In my clan, I grew up with the belief that accidentally dropping a fork means a male guest/visitor is coming while the spoon means a female visitor/guest is coming. In the video, right after the fork dropped that is when the first SB19 member stepped in and started singing. He/SB19 is the guest.
Yes, the smartphone being in the 50's and 70's is also intentional. There's a trailer they released for this MV which hinted on a "strange device" and "5 strange young men" traveling through space and time. That was the very 1st trailer. There were a couple of trailers for this MV, one of those was the same as the last clip where they were doing their own things, but instead of getting a message in their phones, a cassette tape drops near them. With this, you can see that the boys are intentionally drawing parallels between the cassette (which is an older medium for pop music) and smartphones (which is what people nowadays often use to play music). The song frequently references reconnection. For a lot of people, MUSIC does exactly that since (as you said before doing the reaction), "Music transcends." The songwriter (also the group's leader, SB19 Pablo) has told the story on how/why the song was written. He talked about how the pandemic has literally disconnected a lot of people and how everyone turned to the internet to try salvage that connection. For SB19, the pandemic had a devastating effect on their career, but that is a story for a different time. The boys themselves grew unsure of their future and the only thing keeping SB19's name alive was their online media presence and their music. However, even that has put a strain to the relationship between the boys since they could not meet and make plans. Each alone, they're left to ruminate things by themselves--this is where the "disconnection" started, and they all felt it, so they tried several things to try remedy their connection even though it was very difficult. The worst was that they missed the connection between them and the fans in the audience when they perform. WYAT was first written during those trying times. So when things got better and they can resume activities, the boys were extremely excited to work on the tons of ideas and plans that they could not wait to realize.
The outro was showing us the things that they were mostly doing and during the pandemic lockdown: Pablo writing songs and learning how to produce music; Josh busy with game streaming; Stell honing his cooking and baking skills; Ken constantly eating; and Justin doing tons of reading. The Where You At text message was a tease to their world tour. BTW, if you didn't figure it out yet, they were time travelling in this MV that was why you see them snapping pictures with their smartphones. That diner is called The Filling Station located in Makati Avenue.
They are having their 1st world tour concert this November in New York, LA, California,and some other places...let us support our own kababayan, they are deserving of our support...a very hardworking multi talented guys Sb19....thank you once again..
The concept is SB19 meets Retro. Connecting all eras through strong bong in music. That explains the cellphone Josh was holding. They are time travellers. That's why they have cellphones even in the 50's part. In the end they are doing their own thing: Pablo doing computer/ song writing work, Josh is gaming; Stell is baking; Ken is eating and Justin is studying... WYAT is a call to conect once more
Justin, the youngest is the creative director of this MV. He is also the the creative director of their WHAT? mv and Hanggang sa Huli mv which is an animation. Hi, just to let you know, SB19 has concert tour starting in Dubai this October, USA Nov. 5 at Pelladium Time Square, and 2 other states, Singapore and more. And yes, that diner is real place here in Makati, metro manila and still open.
One thing I also noticed how happy you get especially Sir wearing gray hoodie while watching the MV. the MV effect gave him nostalgic feels/made him remember some good moments from the past like those 80s movies he used to watch. I mean, that alone proved that the MV and the message of the song is successful with its mission. He got reconnected.
Dropping a fork means a male company is expected. DISCO-nnected is a word play on disco and on the theme of the song. The emphasis on "disco" is evident because the genre of WYAT is disco-pop. You were right about the time travel (50's, 70's, 90's and present) and the references on Grease, Elvis Presley, James Dean (50's). There's a Ghostbuster poster at the diner (50's scene) because the diner isn't just a set but a real diner in Makati! If you notice, in each era, one member is holding a smartphone. The smartphone is what connects them to the future (the outro is in the present where they are all separated and "disconnected" to each other). The outro ties us up the entire MV, IMHO. The gadget from the present (smartphone) made it possible for them to go back through different decades. In the past, the gadget that made them travel through time is the cassette tape and /or the boombox. (The tape was played in the beginning that took them to the 50's; Josh playing the guitar and lifting the boombox took them to the 70's; Justin tapping the boombox when the music stopped took them to the 90's). Side note: SB19 leader, Pablo, wrote WYAT just right after the pandemic hit and lockdowns were imposed, causing a breakup among the band members. You see, they're not just band members but are like brothers in real life - thus, the disconnection caused by the pandemic made Pablo write the song. WYAT is his love letter to his mates/bros (thus, in the MV, Pablo is always seen next to or carrying the poster of them five). Justin, on the other hand, is the creative director of the MV - he showed how the cassette tape/boombox (which represented music) can bring them together - that no matter what time/era, they're always connected in heart and soul through music. I hope you can catch their concert in NYC, LA, or SanFo. A lot of their RU-vid reactors will be watching their concert in the US! They are nothing like the boys behind-the-cam - they are monster live performers! It'll be my first time to see them perform live in person on Nov. 5! Super excited!!!
Pablo, the leader, composed the song. He and his brother produced. Stell, the main vocalist, did the choreography. Justin, the youngest and visual, is the creative director. Just an FYi SB19 is going on tour in the US. They will be in NY on Nov. 5, LA in Nov. 12 and SF on Nov. 18. The song WYAT is their comeback song and is about connecting with their fans. That's why they are going on tour and hitting major cities in the Philippines and in the US (for now). SB19 are the PPOP kings so please support them in this tour.
Its true. Here in the Philippines we have a superstition that when a fork or spoon drops there are visitors that will arrive. Fork if it's a male visitor and spoon if it's a female.

The vintage look of that place is an actual existing active diner located in Makati, PH. Name is Filling Station. Great food too! And by the way, that thing about fork and spoon is defo Filo belief 😅 and yes, the transition to different music era is a cool representation of how music transcends and the song just recognizes music evolution and regardless what era, they are all influenced in one way or another ❤

You must watch 35 things you may or may not have seen in sb19 wyat but I felt the electric shock was a reference to back to the future,my personal thought as they fast forward to present but their are other Easter eggs lol. I think at the end they showing what they like doing,like Stell likes baking and also some reference to their upcoming tour. It’s just genius

I think the beginning shows they go back in time. I think Pablo wrote the song during or after the pandemic. About dropping the fork or spoon yeah I remember when we were young my mom would "ay may bisitang darating."

The phone is like the connection of every era, you can see them holding the phone. Also, they travel thru eras with the Radio. And Pablo brought their poster from the past era to the latest, you can see him sneaking with it in his part. Justin with the members conceptualize it, I saw in the WYAT making video that they plan to make it Black and White, then slowly incorporating colors. The last part is very colorful. 🌺
