Can you put mead into an air still? I'm a beekeeper, I have an experiment fermenting atm, apple juice and honey 😂 see how it goes, but plan on making a batch of basic mead soon. If I got an air still, once the mead finished fermenting, could I put it in there? Thanks

The left over wash that you poured away, is it really extracted of all usable alcohol and how do you know, if you distill for longer, that you're not running the still dry?

I'm starting to have second thoughts as it seems that the author of the page has died unexpectedly. I'm still waiting for a reply!

I have one of these. I ran it as a test for 3 hours, the last hour I got minimal alcohol off. There was loads ( approx 2 liter liquid left over). No point in running and running. Get nothing for the electricity used.

Is it ok to make alcohol like this in the UK? I have been home brewing for over 4 years, but fancy trying my hand at spirits
@powerliftlimited5709
@powerliftlimited5709 Год назад
Sure, it is OK to distill spirits in the UK. The small problem is that it is illegal! Reason 1 is that HMRC want their duty and will regulate ( inspect you). Reason 2 Sometimes what you make is poisonous - read about Methanol and other fractions.

@LoveBrewing
@LoveBrewing 4 года назад
You’ll use 4 litres per session which will take approx. 2 hours. Remember you will have you’ll have approx. 6 sessions (25 ltr wash) so approx. 12 hours total. Recommend you also watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wBPIJIvsF2s.html

Have you tried adding fruit in a Muslim bag while it’s running to add flavor?

@ruskythegreat

You don't seem to have a thermometer on the still head and you don't discard the head and you haven't tested for methanol. Isn't that really dangerous?
@shakebake3124
@shakebake3124 3 года назад
Use the correct products, turbo yeast etc and it won't product the dangerous bits. So no need to discard anything. Just don't take more than 800ml, after that it tastes pants.
@earnhardtjd

What temp are you running at from start to finish, and you get 800ml from the original 4 liters

I've tried putting the carbon cartridge in the machine with vinegar while cleaning the machine roughly 200 ml vinegar and re used the cartridge and it worked very well :)

I have one more option for you. A more intense pre-infusion by adding already infused fresh botanicals back into your Air Still. By using your base alcohol that you've just made mixed with your botanicals and running it through either a Pressure or Whipping Syphon that uses no2 cartridges or a Coffee Syphon that uses an alcohol burner. If you want to get fancy about it, you can use the syphons to first infuse each botanical separately, then custom blend that last mix into the Air Still for a final distillation.

In just curious mate if you add 400ml of water to 800ml of 60% Alcohol water doesn't it make it 30% alcohol because you diluted it by half/50% I'm pretty good at science and well all the videos on this are still seem to be WRONG, Explain to me why I'm wrong if I am 👍🇦🇺
@dcdday
@dcdday 3 года назад
Minelab pilbara Gold Prospecting TM you’re increasing total volume by a third, so lose a third of the alcohol, if you added 800ml water then it would be 30 %
@FarangNick
@FarangNick 3 года назад
800 ml @ 60% ABV = 480 ml of alcohol Add 400 ml water = 1200 ml total volume, with the same 480 ml of alcohol The same 480 ml alcohol is now 40% of the new 1200 ml total volume ( 1200 ml X 40% = 480 ml)
@TheGreatest1974
@TheGreatest1974 Год назад
He does show that 60% turns into 40% with 400ml water added.
