The thing is that according to the novel, the doctor's mother has always overprotected her to the point where she forces her to do her will. The doctor in the novel has always done everything her parents want, and it is also true that the mother loves her very much, to the point of believing that the doctor is still a child when she really is not. What is true is that there is love, so much love that even the doctor's mother is jealous of losing her daughter when she has a partner. It is actually deeper. Even in the novel it is not only the doctor's entire family, especially her mother, who opposes her relationship with a woman, but also Earn's father, who is essential for Earn to also leave the doctor behind.

Yes they do this to preserve de social class status and preserve de financial status and heritage. As they believe that lower social class are inherently inferior to them. Except new rich people like the celebrities that are not really considered fully part of the higher social class. Only the second generation will get the privilege like the children of a celebrity and their children because the status and heritage is supposed to be passed down from generation.

Just my two cents. But I don't believe money or social status are the sole reasons that motivate Dr. Lada's mother. The mother has this "Life Plan" she wants her daughter to follow. The mother wants this plan to succeed at all costs, no matter who gets hurt. I honestly believe when Earn and Dr. Lada broke up. The mother figured her daughter would be so broken she'd run into the arms of Dr. Wisanu. if that was the case, it failed. I believe her obsession with the plan is what motivates her. The mother needed an ally for her plan to work. Dr. Wisanu was the perfect choice. He's a doctor, he's handsome, comes from a good family. The most valued aspect though is he's weak minded, he can be controlled. The man literally wets his pants when in the presence of Dr. Lada's mother. With all the pieces in play mama is pleased with herself. But wait! BAM!!! Earn re-enters the game, mama mad now lol. I think it boils down to Dr. Lada's mother controlling all aspects of the game, and calculating things turn out exactly the way she planned them. Anything less is unacceptable in her eyes. The woman is very autocratic in her way of thinking.
