Ben: This tutorial blew me away, and will be extremely useful! Thank you for providing this valuable technique to experiment with as we shelter-in-place. Stay safe!
Thanks so much! I'm really happy you found it useful. I've just launched a series of 3 videos on compositing in FCPX. I've dropped the links below in case you wan to take a peek! @@BenjaminHalsall Ben: Thank you for offering the interesting "Compositing" links. Watched all three today (I need a life!), along with your split screen tutorial. Getting a bit ahead of myself for a beginner, but so impressed with your "no fluff" style of instruction. As a former creative instructor, your ability to never stutter or lose your train of thought is enviable! Now, please take a day off, so I may enjoy my Sunday! Ha!
Great no-nonsense tutorial there Ben. You briefly mentioned Photoshop and I can see how the masking could be done probably a bit quicker with tools such as quick selection & wand etc. It's then just a case of importing a psd file into FCPX I guess and animating it with keyframes? I keep coming back to your channel for FCPX tips without the fluff, good work.
Thanks so much Andy. Yes it could be done in Photoshop too. I didn't test it but being able to adjust the mask feather right in Final Cut Pro X could be helpful. Also when I got asked this question someone had tried to do it with two Photoshop layers but there was a strange darkening around the edge of the mask. I didn't try to fix this as I always think that if I can stay 100% Final Cut Pro X in the tutorials then those that don't have Photoshop can still follow along.
Very useful! FCPX is so powerful if you have the right techniques, so thank you for sharing. A criticism I have on this video is that it's *really* distracting to blur the image when zooming.
Wow - I didn't even know we had that dust option instead of bubbles. I've always used a dust clip of my own, but I'd rather use something built in! Thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial Ben. I've just switched from Premier Pro CS 6 after many crashes, so this tutorial (and lots of your other tutes) has been very helpful. Also thanks for the links to other plug-ins; that'll save me a lot of heartache. Cheers.
Thanks for tuning into the channel Donny! Welcome to the world of FCPX. You might enjoy this tutorial I recently created - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RdgYX7kQrU8.html and I also have a full intro to FCPX here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LCrCzEPYxrY.html . Hope these are helpful!
WOW!! Thanks so much! I've always wanted to learn how to do this! Never knew how to word it to search it.. So glad I stumbled upon this video! Definitely subscribing! I'm trying to do everything I can to learn how to film and edit mountain bike videos, so your channel will come in very very handy!
That is awesome! I'm interested to hear how you worded some of your searches... I can add that into the description to hopefully help others find this tutorial.
This is how Netflix does their movie promos 'slideshow'...amazing stuff and WAY over my head. I'm still at learning how to first set up a job. Any videos on file management?
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks for sharing! I used to separate the subject and background with an image editor, and pretty much add those particles and similar steps. But I like what you did here. Adding the map as background, that texture, and the final touch with the LUT! Nice fine job!
Another excellent tutorial Ben! Can you save as a preset the final output with the mLuts? Or copy that as video attributes once all the other steps are done?
Well you could use more draw masks to remove that or perhaps even add a radial blur on a new layer masked to just the wheel. I dodged that one because it adds extra layers and complexity.
Ben I am having trouble here. I am not seeing the two lines of the shape mask on the third top layer and I have no idea why not. What am I doing wrong? I added the shape mask like you instruct on the third layer and the lines to adjust dont appear. When I skim over the top layer I see the inverted shape mask but no lines?
@@BenjaminHalsall Still couldn't see it even highlighted and then my app crashed. When I went back into it I can now see the shape mask. I also switched of the the transform controls. Thanks for the quick reply...thought I was going mad...appreciate it.
I was looking at this and realized in the front tire the rear tire of the blurred out biker is in there getting bigger & bigger as well... 0:06 Stuff like this can turn something easy into something a lot more time consuming... blur those spokes as well?!!?
There are lots of great plugins that don't come with Final Cut Pro... actually there are probably some nice ways of doing some similar overlays with some simple light leaks. Anyway thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! I always try to mix some built-in (i.e. free stuff) in my tutorials and work pretty hard to get the balance right. Good luck with the edits!
