Final Days at the Valley View Mall - R.I.P. Retail 

Checkout Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix, AZ. This mall has two out of five anchor stores. It used to have an ice skating rink before this place got replaced by Harkins 12 movie theatre. Metrocenter Mall is currently 65% vacant. It located at Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue.

So sad, I remember when Valley View Mall was very busy, full of people.

Did you see a giraffe topiary statue near the food court? It was near, not in, and was almost as tall as the second floor, which circled it so people from the second could see it. On the second, in front of that giraffe viewing area was there the former Disney Store once stood. Macy's (former Foleys) had a massive mosaic entrance. Not sure if they were/are able to save it, but I know it's a big issue

The AMC is funny, because the mall was already dying/dead when they built the theater. Maybe they struck a deal with the owner or something believing that it would bring in shoppers if they were there. Cinemark did the exact same thing with Vista Ridge when it was dying/dead, which was even more odd, and that Mall already HAD a theater, and it already WAS a Cinemark, but they built a separate attached theater anyway. The old theater has sat abandoned for almost two decades. It's been boarded up this entire time. I'm sure people would pay money to just see what an abandoned theater from the 90s looked like.

This was my childhood mall. I have faint memory of visiting the Foley’s store in 2005, and I would go to the JCPenney regularly until it began to downsize for planned renovations in 2012-2013 until they cancelled them and closed the store.

This mall was suppose to close when I started working at AMC in 2016. 😂

My understanding is that the mall demolition is tied up in several lawsuits that have yet to run their course.

Wow ... first visited the VV Mall in '75 ... worked just down the street at TI in those days ...
