I don't know why but I just imagine death being so petty and upset about not getting to use any of his Rube Goldberg deaths on Alex that he personally threw the brick instead of just making it fall
I imagine that picture of Charlie Day by the conspiracy theory board and it’s death coming to the conclusion that he himself has to throw the brick cause it’s the only/simple way it’ll work 😂
I actually like to think of some long sequence of events like the movies always have..... maybe some construction workers working on a building high up & something spills into something that slips into something that falls into something that knocks a brick off ...... & Alex is walking on the street & stops to do something nice (open a door/pick up something an old lady dropped/etc) & gets hit in the head .....
My headcanon is that Death got tired of making elaborate Rube Goldberg-esque death traps that regularly fails, so he simply just threw a brick at Alex.
Just so you know because of your head canon of an enraged death hurling the brick at Alex yelling "Why wont you just die!" only for it to hit and kill him resulting in Death after a moment of complete shock doing the "I meant to do that" claim and shuffle off in embarassment.
This makes me feel better picturing something to what you and the other comment said. Just imagining death pissed off chucking a brick. & when it worked him being shocked at first, then just him laughing slow and giddy that's turns into maniacal laughter. Cause offscreen and a brick?! Like come on! 😅
I love how the highway crash scene has shaped millennials and Gen Z to immediately panic when we see those wood trucks lmaooo😂😂 one of my worst fears fr For the people saying Gen Z wasn't affected, I'm literally born in '05.
@@LD_92the oldest gen z were born in 1995, so yes we did grow up watching these movies and most of the gen z from 1995-2003 have seen final destination
@@dayzed2 Gen Z’s are actually 1997 kids. This first film came out in 2000. Wouldn’t really say you grew up with these movies. I’m sure plenty of Gen Z’s have seen these films. That’s why I said most, not all.
@@TupocalypseShakur Yeah, I replied to the comment below me. Not saying that Gen Z’s haven’t seen these movies. Just that I’d consider it more of Gen Y thing.
I cannot drive anywhere near a log truck without thinking about that highway crash. I think this is the only movie to actually scar me. But hey, that means it worked.
One think about that viral video of the lady freaking out on the plane is I saw comments saying "I would get off! It's like Final Destination!" and I would think "Honestly, I hope you all are worrying about being distracted on the road way more than you are worrying about this." Plane crashes are super rare, the shit in this opening scene happens every day.
@@reginaphalange30don’t visit Portland, Oregon then. The city is split by the Willamette River and on the bank of the Columbia River which separates Washington state and Oregon. There are a ton of bridges!
Everyone always mentions the logs, but this movie also ensured that I never have plastic bottles or any other junk by my feet that could get stuck under the brake pedal.
Fun fact a . . . ok not a fun fact but anyway a coworker was recently hospitalized because someone left a can with toxic chemicals in the truck and it got punctured by rolling around under their seat leading to them inhaling it over several hours drive.
So fun fact for you guys, Kimberly (the lead) also plays JJ in Criminal Minds, the teacher Eugene (the motorcyclist who died in the hospital with Clear) is the original voice of Kratos from God of War, and, since it was so impressive to you, the highway crash WAS in fact all practical (minus some explosions) They had stunt drivers doing all the crashing
Another fun one was that Kimberly was originally the lead in FD1. And when Jeffrey Reddick wrote the first film, he had Kirsten Dunst in mind. But he also had Alex as Tobey Mcguire in mind.
For me is the best, the third is bad, but I dont i never like those games because I got sick so I would never be in one, but a car accident is something that all people could experience, I think that is the more real of all the movies, and why the four and the five is not very interesting to me,
Glad you continued! FD2 and FD5 are my favorites, but for different reasons. Timmy from the dentist sequence was originally... nine years old, I think? ... but the studio felt he was WAY too young to kill in such a brutal fashion. All of the car crashed in the opening sequence were done practically, which I think really makes a difference. What's interesting is that most of the logs are digital! Twenty years later, I think the VFX holds up pretty well. Roxy, you are correct -- we never thought we'd be making a sequel so we were kinda making it up as we went along. Greg, you are also correct -- usually most of the character work in these movies are cut out after previews. People just want to get to the kills ASAP. [Apologies for some copypasta] Two interesting notes -- the scene in the car where they all realize they're connected to the survivors of Flight 180 in the first movie? The studio wanted to cut that scene. We had to shoot other scenes faster to earn it, and even then they didn't want it. And it's the most critical scene in the movie! Sigh. They also didn't want to shoot the scene where Rory tells Kimberly to hide all the stuff that might break his Mom's heart. We snuck in two takes of the scene without telling them -- that's why it's in one shot with no coverage. And finally, Roxy, it's staties -- I'm a Masshole myself.
It’s great that you take the time to watch and respond to these reactions. May i ask whats the studios perspective of this explosion of channels reacting to films? I think it’s positive in keeping films more relevant but I’m interested to hear how they feel. Thank you.
@@the_33rd I hope they appreciate the reactions. I wasn't going to watch FD 5 because I wasn't too impressed by FD 4. After seeing reactions, I had to buy it so I could watch it more than once, and it's actually my favorite. Not to give anything away, the first premonition scene is my biggest fear in 5. Maybe that's why I chose it over 1 and 2. But if there were no reactions to 5, I would not have bought the movie or even watched it. My favorites are 5, 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The fact that the opening premonition in FD2 is mostly practical with v. few exceptions is probably why it was so effectively terrifying at the time and to this day. Also, I'm so glad that ya'll fought for the scene that connects it to the first movie. Part of the reason this movie series is so enjoyable is how all of them are generally connected to the original.
Wow, with the context of the kid originally being written as much younger makes stuff like the tucking-in bedtime scene make a lot more sense. Though as a result it did give the overprotective, infantilizing mom an interesting extra layer of characterization that might not have been there if Timmy hadn't been rewritten/recast.
In the "Choose Your Fate" DVD edition of Final Destination 3, a newspaper blows by, revealing the two surviving characters from the second movie, Kimberly and Burke ran into each other at a hardware store and a Camaro ran through the store, knocking them into a nearby wood chipper. Kimberly's coat was tangled and was snatched into the machine. Burke attempted to save her, and both were dismembered. Since this is an alternate, this may not be considered to be canon. So those characters may still be alive.
Based on how the other movies end, I doubt they lived It seems like death is petty and just says "okay you get a blank slate, oh look I have a train crash in 9 months, it be a shame if you happen to be on it"
Fun Fact 2: In terms of Alex's cause of Death, they had a good series of ideas. One was the blade of a ceiling fans falling on him. They scrapted that and thought having one of the other characters die on screen but never used it. Another was a spider bite. But one that they really thought of saying was a flesh eating virus. In the end, we got the falling brick to the head.
The original creator recently spoke in an interview that he wanted Alex as the Dr. Loomis of the franchise basically but FD2 spat on the character and even Clear's. FD2 had such odd writing and it's hard for me to like knowing what they did to Alex and knowing what the franchise creator originally wanted from Alex.
Feel like the should have just left it. It looked like him and the bully from the first one die at the same time in the last scene of FD1. Should have killed him there with the same sign
The director of this movie was a stunt man, which is why all of the stunts are so great. The major crash was done almost 100% practically. The cgi they used was to make the logs bounce because when they tried to do that part practically, the logs just....rolled away.
Idk if someone already said it, but the character of Tim was originally written to be 10yrs old, which is why he seems so young, but they didn’t want to kill a kid in such a brutal way, so they aged him up to 15.
@@liamwarner5749 It isn't off camera, it's just in the background (kind of) but they also have his partially cooked arm land on his mother's dish in front of her, I mean come on lol
@@LordLOC Hmmm I remember him walking off and the explosion happening in audio form only but it has been a long time since I watched the film rather than reactions. An arm isn't really the same as seeing a child squashed flat.
@@liamwarner5749 No they definitely show the kid getting blown up, it's even in the reaction here. You see him standing there and the BBQ exploding etc. And yeah, getting squished flat would be worse, but in the end you are still dead lol
I really liked how he was included in each of the FD movies I accept (FD4 was more a demonstration of 3D technology than a movie). In my head, he is the reaper: no control over life and death, but critical in the transition. The TV show Dead Like Me fits this head canon as well.
My mama and grandma (may they both RIP) became paranoid around log trucks and trucks with metal bars after seeing this. They absolutely hated being behind one of them in traffic.
I'm not entirely sure that it's Death that's giving the signs, but something else. Like, the whisper to Kimberly to wake her up so see could see the news story in the middle of the night and have it in her head the next day. Something's trying to stop them from Death, but can't intervene with free will. It's almost like a chess game of Death vs Life, with the free will of humans being the chaotic wild card...
It is absolutely Death giving the signs. They are the things that directly lead to the deaths. When Kimberly yells towards Tim "Pigeons!", That is when Tim notices them and gets the idea to scare them off. If Kimberly hadn't distracted him, he most likely would have just continued his conversation with his mom about the dentist and walked past the birds.
@redfox3334 Or the pigeons that the sign was originally referring to were the pigeons that led to the kid being suffocated, but it also saved the mother from being electrocuted. Why would Death give a clue to Alex about the bus in the first movie, the seatbelt, . Why would Death give them clues to help them cheat it? Why give the premonitions in the first place? They all seem like warnings and only those who are paying attention or in tune with what's needs to be seen... I feel like Life chooses those who would take heed to their warnings and be proactive in helping the others. If it had chosen other characters like Carter, Billy, the dope fiend, the mom & son, the motorcyclist, etc, they orobably would be so quick to help everyone else. Even Clear might not have been proactive to save everyone on that plane. Clear was clearly an empath though, therefore, someone very in tune so although she never saw the vision Alex had, she felt everything he felt and she later had her own vision (or just her empathic feelings being triggered, maybe giving her a sign in a way that would connect to her instesd of an actual vision?) that saved Alex in the end. I think this is the doings of Life, not Death...
@@langdonledwig3734 Because everything that happens in these movies IS Deaths actual design. The ending proves it the most. We learn that all of the characters in this movie were prevented from dying in other accidents because of the cast of the original, so they, along with the us, believe that to be the reason they are all targeted now. If the original cast hadn't survived the plane, everyone in this movie would have made it to the places they should have died. None of their situations they escaped were prevented, they just weren't involved in them. Then this cast crashes into a farm and at one point the son on that farm is almost run over by a news van that is there because of the big crash, but Rory saves him. We then see Death come for that kid at the end, but if they had died in either of the previous accidents, they would have never crashed in that farm, then the kid would have never been run over by a news van in the first place. That kid was ALWAYS meant to die standing at that gas grill.
I can’t wait for y’all to reach #3! I know we talk about the log scene scarring us but the next one had me praying every time I was at an amusement park 😭
I imagine death as a grumpy underpaid guy just with a checklist and when someone cheats him he's just " Are you freaking kidding me ! You know how long it took me to plan all of these!"
Fun Fact: When it came to the fate of Alex Browning, they did think of bringing both Alex and Clear back. But they felt having them both come back wouldn't work so they basically decided to bring back one of them. Originally, they were going to bring back Alex, but they felt Clear coming back without Alex would be more interesting. So they had Alex die offscreen.
Actually this is not the main reason.... They planned to bring Alex and clear both back, but the makers had some issues with the actor who played Alex.. that's why they didn't include him in the film
OMG, I was driving along the highway about a month ago and ended up behind a log truck. My heart almost jumped to my throat, and I spent a few minutes nervously driving behind the truck, before it turned off, and all I could think was "I don't care how secure those logs are, I've seen the movie." Another great reaction, and can't wait to see you guys react to the next one
My headcanon is that Alex was such an MVP at evade all the death complicated shennanigans that one day Death was like "ah fuck it" and just drop a brick into his head
This movie is the reason why we all still fear these logs on the freeway 21 years later 😂😂 this was the scariest one to me as a teenager and it's a good sequel.
this film is 20 years old now but still has some of the best practical car stunts ever put on film. the crazy thing about it is its not too far from reality, highway pileups do happen in real life. the way this film expertly plays on the audiances everyday fears is what makes this film shine and why i still think its the best film in the franchise.
That Highway premonition scene at the start is still one of the most insane sequences I've seen at the start of a movie. I didn't know they were going to go that hard (even after the first one), that was my favourite premonition scene they've done
Something creepy that happened to me was when I had deja vu when I saw the bridge collapse scene in the 5th movie as a kid. It was almost like I had my own premonition of seeing the movie.
Roxy jumping on the chair in panic over the dentist scene is great! lol ^_^ It's ok, my wife the same way. Goes into full on panic mode at the dentist.
The first one is definitely the best one, especially because it has the best actors/characters. That being said, the highway scene in this movie and some of the death scenes are very well done and entertaining.
The opening was all done by practical effects, stunt drivers EXCEPT the log...they tried to do the log practical but it came off the truck no where near bouncing the way they wanted it to. Huge respect to the coordinators and stunt drivers.
So glad Mr Perry commented on your last video! He's such a cool dude and responds to most reactors who watch the series! Gives you so many behind the scenes details! Even did a interview with CineBinge Reacts (if I recall). You should check it out after your finish the movies!
Couple things: Highway to hell made me do a spit take, the practical effects for creative kills especially are definitely the best part of this one, this franchise is quite literally THE best at making you fear the mundane (just wait til next movie), the main character Kimberly is played by AJ Cook who is great as JJ on Criminal Minds, and lastly death is the funniest character of the franchise. Edit: Also, I absolutely love that you guys reacted worse to the typical dental work than anything else (I do too every time I watch this). And the twist at the end shocked me the first time I saw this and now I think it was simply well done.
That guy with the jaws of "life" that set off the airbag is going to have so much PTSD. Then again, why they left the sharp pipe end behind her is a mystery.
1, 2 & 5 are niiice ! The other ones not really. FD1 has several cool bits and a unique vibe to it. FD2 is nasty, efficient, and very satisfying in its genre. FD5 is pretty clever and makes it all nicely come full circle (also arguably has the best death scene in the franchise).
This one is my fave Final Destination. I was working in a theater when it came out and the staff had so much fun watching all the deaths over and over again. The crowd was a good one too and that's not always the case, lol. That pane of glass, tho. 😂😂 And of course the logs. That traumatized SO MANY people, 🤣🤣
I really love the plot point that the survivors are connected to the survivors from FD1. I thought it was really well done and I like the idea that death has a ripple effect even beyond the plane crash.
i love all of them respectively (except the fourth which is still a decent for me) but what makes me love this the most is the connections to the other survivors of 180. i remember even as a kid being mind blown with that concept. it was so neat.
@@retro_vintageThey don't look replies to the comments because why would they, and anyone who watches these reactions should have already seen 5, which is over a decade old. How about you mind your business.
@@michelle6337 Greg literally reads and likes these comments. He's literally liked your first comment here in this thread. They're watching these movies for the first time. Thanks for ruining it for them and not just owning up to being wrong and inconsiderate.
Yes love that you are continuing to watch this series of films. I can't wait for your reaction to Final Destination 3 as it is my favorite of the franchise.
Final destination 3 is the best one to me. They give you good characters plus the main girl is the best out of the franchise. The deaths in their are great.
I seem to recall it's somewhat hinted that Tony Todd is death. In the first movie he's the one who told them about the whole death coming for what's owed, and being playfully vague as if encouraging them to try and live.
27:21 Clear is mad cause He told her that death has a distinct design. But now that the list is backwards she thinks He knows more than he told her. She literally says this in the scene earlier hahahah
This was a good sequel. It's connection to the original was incredible with a good eclectic cast of characters. The deaths were creative. I usually don't like how people die in films like these. But the blood levels do rise quite a bit. After this one and part 3, i couldn't get into the other sequels. But other than that, still a ride of an horror thriller series.
Movie: teases death by choking at the dentist. Roxy: I literally just drooled, I was very stressed out and forgot fo swallow my saliva. Movie: Tim gets killed by windowpane in a ultraviolent graphic scene. Greg (bursts out laughing): I'm so happy right now, this is so funny. Roxy, Greg, you're the best and I love you both. I don't want to watch movies without your reactions anymore to be honest. 😅😍🤩
The first scene made so many people think twice before going behind one of those big rigs with heavy loads. My sister stayed off the freeway for 3 months after watching this film. LOL!
Clear should of been the leader right through out the entire film series!! It would have been so much better that way!! The ultimate final girl!!!!💪😎❤👏🙌🙏👍🎉
What's especially funny is you were 100% right about Canadian casting/shooting. This movie came out in 2003. The terrible Sheriff's Deputy was played by an actor who also was starring in a lead role in the new Sy-Fy series BATTLESTAR: GALACTICA, which was filmed in British Columbia at the same time!
The rules are pretty straightforward. And the ending was explained. The cop and the girl are already cleared because she legit did die. The drug guy saving the kid added another ripple, so death had to clean up the kid.
The deaths in the opening scene reminded me that two students I graduated w/ died weeks after our graduation. One was crushed by a log that got loose off a logging truck when he was passing it, the other wiped out and died riding a motor cycle... Pretty messed up
This one has more shot you’re actually afraid of happening. The first one just had more happenstance in the deaths. But this took literal fears and realized them. There’s not much of a story here it’s essentially a bunch of vignettes.
I saw these movies in my teens before I got my license, but this movie in particular still stands out for that log truck highway scene. I won’t drive beside or behind vehicles hauling stuff like that, regardless of what they’re carrying. If it’s an open trailer I’m either lagging way behind or making my way around and ahead of them. And I’ve seen the aftermath of a similar accident in the early 2010’s just down the road from where I lived. There was an 18-wheeler hauling a trailer full of 2x4’s and 2x6’s and some managed to get loose. One 2x4 in particular apparently slid off the back of the trailer, bounced off the road, and impaled the guy driving behind the trailer, killing him almost instantly I’d assume. I didn’t see it happen, but I drove by before they started cleaning up or anything, saw the 2x4 still sticking partially out of the windshield and under the tarp that was covering everything I presume the guy was still impaled in the drivers seat. Of course, that only reinforced my fear and abundance of caution even more when it comes to trucks hauling stuff like that. Being around heavy vehicles with heavy loads is dangerous, but it’s more scary if it’s an open trailer as well. I think this movie and that highway scene probably impacted a whole generation of drivers to be scared and cautious of trucks hauling stuff like that.
I was once driving on the road behind a truck with logs on it and I remembered this movie and was too paranoid so I pulled over until the truck was very far ahead
