Final dollar tree junk journal flip through 

I love this journal so much, I want to hit the Like button 50 times!!!

Goodwill is expensive for a thrift store no matter where you live. Local thrift stores that are also charity shops like Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul or any place fundraising for a smaller local charity will be MUCH cheaper than Goodwill. I get books for 25 cents each (clearance rack at ARC Spokane)! I’m hopeful that you will do a challenge with thrifted items because many people don’t have a Dollar Tree but a lot of people have access to yard sales & second hand stores. I discovered junk journals only recently and have fallen in love with the concept…my introduction came when my sister sent me a link to the video where you created the marbled papers with shaving foam. Thank you for sharing your talents, it’s been a great help to me to discover this new world. :)

Hi Jessica - I think you did a fantastic job with this challenge. You always do amazing work. Love the cover and see-thru window page. Nothing in this journal looks cheap at all. All supplies look like great quality. It would be fun to see you do a “used finds” journal. You could get your supplies anywhere that has used things. Not limited to any one type of store. As long as you buy it used, that counts. The hunt would be some of the best parts of creating this journal. Yards sales are so much fun this time of year. You could do a video and link together several places that you got your items. Have a Blessed week everyone.

Wow! That journal looks gorgeous! I did the challenge too but just did a page. I was using a store bought journal. I just started this hobby so my stuff is basic but you gals are so crafty. Lots of ideas!

Oh my goodness, that is so gorgeous. ♥♥♥ I spent $18 Canadian after taxes and not sure I will use every item. Last night I coffee dyed more papers and today I marbled paper (for the first time - Fun). I am working on tea dying paper now. Later today I will take a deep breath and gut my first book. Goodwill is overpriced, for sure. But you can find a ton of junk Journaling supplies for excellent prices. Your journal is beautiful! Wherever you buy your supplies I am sure is great!

Goodwill is the worst! We do have a really good Salvation Army in my town. It’s a little higher priced than I like sometimes but for the most part it’s great This journal is so pretty and colorful.

I think I finally got everything collected to start mine lol, and its over. On the subject of thrifting, some other choices might be a Habitat Restore maybe and see if your local has a community thrift store. These stores will take in donations and use the money to feed local families in need, food boxes, and help people who are struggling to pay bills and are usually pretty inexpensive. Also a good place to donate if your clearing extra items out of the home. Great journal, I think it turned out lovely. TFS

It was so much fun to follow your process. I love the fact that you made so many things yourself using basically everyday items and tools. The journal is so joyful, I especially love the first page which seems to be like a window into the colorful pages😍. The journals I make suddenly seems to be so boring😅. Oh, it's so Pretty. Love the cover and that "see thru" page. I'm definitely going to try that in my next altered book. It wasn't my suggestion, however, I'll add, maybe collect items from yard sales, flea markets, etc. for a couple months then do a journal from those things.

The GWs that charge by the pound are awesome for paper crafting items. You buy just want you to need. Most of everything has been opened so you can just pick out the items you want and not buy the whole thing. I've gotten different sized and weight cards from games that were opened and can be reused to make journal cards, etc. You may find books with pages removed so you can just take the pages. You may find greeting cards that are opened or just singular. You can pretty much cherry-pick what you want and leave what you don't (Not encouraging you to open things and just take what you need but most has already been opened. Not suggesting you tear pages out of books and not buy the whole book...just so you know.) I've gotten new bottles of paint and really nice markers that were practically new. The atmosphere at these GWs is a bit to get used to. People are very focused on what they want and happy talk doesn't happen much. Seems like people turn into stepford wives or zombies...just looking for that deal. IDK...some will whip through the contents of a bin like they are expecting an iPad to be just laying there waiting for them. But I will say it's fun and maybe a little addictive.

We have a thrift store here in Silverton that has both antiques and a lot of just thrift stuff. I found papers and older books there. If you ever come down this way.

I think this turned out lovely! I enjoyed the series, esp. that all products were from the $Tree. The Goodwill stores here are outrageous! The price on many of their USED articles; I could get the same BRAND NEW! I don't understand WHY they do that!?

I wonder if you could combine all of these smart and great suggestions of thrift/garage/rummage/secondhand stores in to one and just call it "alternative" store budget challenge? You wouldn't necessarily have to set a specific dollar limit or confine yourself to one type of store, but rather looking at it from the point of view of alternate places that you can find items for building a junk Journal at a good low cost?

Love it.. U said you don't know what to do with that journal.. I take it.. I love it.. I've tried to make one but mine don't turn out like that.. I'd love to just have it...

If you Decide to do a journal with thrift store items, I don't think I'd put a price limit on it. I shop for a lot of my stuff at yard/garage sales. Of course that's only during good weather. I'd count these sales as if it were a thrift store. I also don't care for Goodwill, but shop there anyway because I can find items that I can only assume they didn't know what it was worth & had a low price on it. Otherwise I have a local thrift shop I go to a lot (it's only 5 blocks away!)

Yard and/or garage sales would be better than thrift stores.

I would love to have it.

Good morning. I have recently watched some of your videos and find your creations very beautiful, mini works of art, but I have a question for you. What are these journals used for? I completely understand the rewards of the creative process when one makes it themselves, but is there a market for selling? A traditional journal has lots of space for writing, but what would one put in this type of journal? Please understand - this is not a criticism, but a genuine question, as I am a crafter, too, and have actually purchased many supplies which could be used for junk journals. I don't use a journal myself, so I would appreciate some feedback or suggestions to help me out. Many thanks!

you would have to go to low income thrift shop not the high end thrift shops.

All of the goodwills are way overpriced. I have found many, many crafting items at yard sales and like Church rummage sales.... they are the best. One church has a make an offer deal but most are really cheap. Becuase it's a church, I don't mind paying a little more.
