In case anyone is wondering. The reason warriors and soldiers are still taught formations and marches is for discipline and to test whether the trooper can listen and follow proper instruction.

The weirdest thing about boot camp is that while you in it you can't wait to be over and it seems that last forever but once it's over you can't believe it's over and later on life you get to miss it and it becomes one off the most fondest experiences on your life! Good times!

Man it took my platoon FOREVER to get the marching right lol. 3rd phase we finally got it right and tied for second after failing drill twice. We could fight and shoot though.

Watching approximately 60 recruits who came from all walks of life, who never knew each other and in 13 weeks became molded into one completely synchronized platoon,says volumes for Marine Corps training. Congratulations and well done, Marines .Semper Fi.

Back in 64 at Parris Island we drilled with M14's. Things have come a long way with modified M16's with enhanced fore grips and ACOG's. Watching these Marines is like a symphony. I do and always will love the Corps. Spent 26 years of my life with them and watching this makes me want to go back. Age takes a tole on the body but not the soul.

You get through these 12 weeks, without getting set back, you are a bad ass, and have earned the respect of the entire country! (IMO)

My brother's a Marine, and is in Japan, I love my brother dearly, and thank him and all Marines and armed forces members for their service, to protect my home👏🏻

I was in Boot Camp, San Diego, in ‘68. My dad was there in ‘38 and served in the South Pacific but passed before I joined. I went to Nam 68-69. I know Boot Camp was different now than it was in ‘68 and was VERY different when my dad was in. I just wish we both could have swapped stories about those days. I sure miss him.

I was in the Army from 2004 to 2013 and I was always envious of the discipline the Marines have. You didn't really see that in the Army

What people need to keep in mind is these are basically trained Marines. Every Marine can do this as part of our basic training. Some better than others but none the less we can all do this.

My little brother is in bootcamp right now and said in one of his letters that his platoon won final drill and broke a regimental record. I didn’t really know what that meant, so watching this makes me even more proud of him.

Being in the Army i can certify that I dont understand what the hell the instructor is saying. He must be a true marine all the way to the core 👌🏼

One of the most impressive experience I had during boot was rifle qualification. Getting to the 500 yard line, hitting black center mass, all day long. I shot expert, and even improved when i got out in the fleet. With a open site weapon!

I remember when the only thing that mattered to me was the final drill. I love the Marine Corp.

We took Final Drill! As a reward, our DIs thrashed us in the pit! One of our most proudest thrashing.

I was Platoon 1051 1986! Our final drill went great! I caught a cab to San Diego airport had a beer and a cigar! The AC on the plane broke down and the entire flight turned into a beer party!! ~Salute to all that earn the title in the future~ Semper Fi Fellow Marines!

The cadence calling and sounds of the rifles bring a tear to me eyes

This reminds me when I was growing up. I was born and raised on Air Force Bases. I remember soliders doing these drills.The sounds of their marching and their rifles in unison clanging and the sound of the wind blowing is a nice memory. I thank all the men and women who protect our country. And we really need it nowadays! GO USA!🇺🇸❤️

I remember busting my finger and bleeding during final. Drill master was impressed. Same as my drill instructor although he didn’t mention it until he handed me my Eagle Globe and Anchor 🦅⚓️

Whenever I get depressed on the direction the US is heading I watch this. Don't ever change.

I miss drill. I was glad to drill again in MCT when we were being "disciplined" and treated as "Recruits" again by our instructors but sadly, it only lasted for a day lol

It wasn’t until after I got discharged that I realized we weren’t the only ones being judged in final drill, the DIs were also being evaluated. They were given a list of commands to be executed and how well the platoon responded.

My son is part of this video. He's in platoon 3076. I'm glad he's following the same tradition I went threw over 30 years ago. Me, I was in platoon 1014, A co., 1012 series and we graduated 2/6/1987.

I cant believe my grandpa did this in 1963 I remember once when I was a kid he took out his M-14 and still at over 60 years old still did it perfect after so many years he's 77 now and I'm very proud my grandpa earned the title Marine

Plt 1015, 1st RTBN, April 1990. Initial and Final Drill winners. SSGT Moreno, SDI. The next closest platoon was 5 points behind us. No one could touch us. Our rifle manual sounded like one giant click. It even rained in MCRDSD of all things during the last part of the Final Drill. If you were there, that was greatness.

A couple of things about drill. Final Drill for a DI is like their Daytona 500 - it is revered. Drill for a platoon needs to be their Zen - it is the Platoon's identity in all the eyes of the other Di's an recruit Commanders. Drill is the foundation of following instructions, listening to commands, team work as a unit, and above of all pride as a Corps. Drill is the #1 thing a DI's is graded on in the eyes of God and everybody.

Close order drill is what seperates Marines from the other branches. Without even realizing it, it basically instills immediate response to orders. And this translates to the battlefield. I remember when I was in Iraq back in 2006. When we would catch fire or hit an IED our response to these situations was eerily robotic in a way. You respond without having to guess about it, and therefore things would run smooth and orderly.

My brother is going to be joining the Marines.

It’s weird to think I will never get these mornings back… the nostalgia and the vivid memories I have being isolated to such a small location, and having your life changed so measurably in what only retrospectively feels like an instant but in the moment felt like an eternity… makes me wanna do it all over again but my back has never been the same. If I were healthy I ponder where my place would have been in the corps.

I saw Sgt. Burns at Camp Lejeune after he left the drill field. He told me that 3011 was the best platoon that he had ever put through.--------Damn, it was good to see him again!

The old Marine watched this video and smiled. He recalled his time at Parris Island which seemed so very long ago. Different Rifle, different uniform. All green but still lean and mean. He remembered each of his Drill Instructors names like it was yesterday. The names and memories of his brother Marines still linger in his mind. The cadence, commands and movement of his Vietnam era M16 came back to him. The sounds of close order drill and marching brought back pleasant memories. So young and so Gung-HO, he thought he was invincible. But age and injuries have caught up with him. He no longer can run 3 miles or fight with a pugil stick. Getting out of the "rack" is not so easy now. But put him behind his rifle (There are many like it but this one is mine) and 500 yards is no more a challenge than it was many years ago. Still sharp and steady, he can hit center mass and never jerk the trigger. Breath control is remembered as is sight alignment and sight picture. Yes, it was many years ago and several wars later, but this Old Marine never forgot that every Marine is a Rifleman! May GOD continue to Bless and Keep the United States Marine Corps, SEMPER FI!

As a retired US Marine Infantry Unit Leader (0369), I still remember every drill move at my current age of 74. In 1977, I mastered the Drill Manual. Did you know the west coast Marines had one more movement then the east coast Marines? I was not a "Drill Master", but 3 Drill Instructors from OCS tested me while Chief Instructor (Gunny) at NCO School at Quantico. One of the prides of my career. I love Close Order Drill. Ooorah Semper Fi.

It seems very unnatural when marching to place the flat of the foot on the ground. That is not how the body is built. The heel should 'strike; the ground first with the foot at an angle outwards. I am not criticizing, but it doesn't seem right. ( I can still hear it now from my own basic training "Drive those heels into the ground, I want to hear the crack of the heel!") Can I ask also what is the length of pace?

Not bad at all, but not quite the snap and pop we had back in the day...from when I went thru boot at Parris Island in '75 the biggest thing that jumped out was how everyone puts their feet down so softly...apparently they are no longer pushed to march with their heel slamming down like we were...we were taught early to slam the hell down...When we'd march the DI's would scream HEELS, HEELS, HEELS!!!!!, and when we'd march between the barracks it would sound like thunder...these recruits seem to be coached to do just the opposite...I had heard talk that some of the stress fractures suffered in boot were possibly caused by how we used to march so maybe there was an official effort to stop marching like that...I don't know, but it sure sounded and looked more impressive than the soft marching here....but other than that they look pretty good, not as good as we were but pretty damn good.

Drill sergeant: Present Arm Soldier: Dab Drill sergeant: oh god forbid me to kill you tonight!!! I actually did it once and that what happened. I ended up doing some excersise.

Here I am watching this as retired Marine and a former DI at PISC. I was a SDI for my last two of 6 platoons I worked and here I am critiquing it wih a DI's eyes. Those recruits could have done better. Then I stop myself. Wait you haven't been on the drill field in thirty years and yet I am seeing heads move and some sloppy manual of arms. Well dammit I need to lighten up! Old DI's like me just don't quit. LOL! My last final drill I pulled the stack arms card. Oh boy lucky me. My recruits executed flawlessly. I didn't win the final drill, I had to many recruits not taking a full 30 inch step out the pivot on a column right but the drill masters all gave me a great critique. FInished second and its my hope all my recruits had a good tour in the Corps

From 5 Oct - 21 Dec, 1964, we used M-14 in Plt 393. I spent 21 years as a 03. 14 years as a 0369. The I remember the Inspection Arms count changed when it came to the M-16. My Senior Drill Instructor was my original Marine hero. He was an Old School Sergeant with two hash marks and some campaign ribbons. It was my goal to master the Drill Manual at the time, and I did. I "moved" teams all the way up to a company from point to point. At 8th & Eye I had to learn Ceremonial Drill as a Platoon Sergeant and then for the Parade Staff (72 - 75). I use to eat close order drill for breakfast from Sea Duty to Division and in between. At PI our platoon didn't win Drill Comp because our final halt position was in a "DI Bow". We wanted to win so damn bad for our beloved Senior, who by the way told us from jump street he was going to graduate everyone if we didn't F-up. He picked up 80 and graduated 80. So, we wanted to get him Drill Comp.....he sent us "ladies in the barn" so many times until we got "his drill" done correctly. Watching this caused me to yell drill adjustments at my 55" TV 😂 You damn Skippy, at 77 I can conduct Close Order Drill 2 blocks away with a 0369 voice. #CallengeMe. Semper Fi
