Scott, first off, thank you for 26 years of service to our country. Next, congratulations on your well earned retirement! I enjoyed your series on Brutus and learned a few things along the way. Good luck once you get back home to Texas, you have a lot of catching up to do with your family and your other projects. Looking forward to whatever videos the future holds for you to share with us! Good luck and thanks for bring us along for the ride!
Thanks for your service Mr. Walters and also many thanks for helping me learn how to do these things on my own truck. Sad to see it go but look forward to the rest of the projects!
Thanks for the kind words, Scott-B! I'm certainly looking forward to being back home in Texas, but I suspect it will be a tad warm when I arrive in hill country in late July! Scott
This truck is pretty much a bucket list truck for me, and if I had the funds I would be on my way to Virginia. Sad to see it go, but thankful for the videos you've made with it as they will no doubt help me with my 1990 F350 4x4 project.
Just got this far. Bummed that we can't see it fire up and drive but it's all good. I learned a ton so thank you for that and thank you for your service brother. That's a great run. I'll look forward to seeing your other videos and projects. cheers
Thanks for the comment. I hated to see it go as well, but it had to be done. I'll do another IDI but I have to get a few other projects done first. Scott
@@Itmonolith - I'd keep it NA for now. There's a fair amount of work and $ necessary to turbo the engine. It's more involved than just bolting one one. Good luck with it! Scott
Sometimes things play out like this and its part of life. Scott thank you for all of your videos and being an inspiration for all of us. Your videos will help me rebuild my engine and transfer case in my own idi so i can get it on the road sometime this summer. Enjoy your retirement celebration and i hope the truck goes to a good home and i am looking forward to the new builds down the line!
Thanks for the fantastic videos on Brutus! They have helped immensely with my motivation to get my own 84 going, but the knowledge you have decided to grace us with has been exceptional. I can't wait to see what comes next and hope the best for you, Scott! Sidenote: You could do a vlog series about setting up your garage and the moving process. It may not be your cup of tea, but it would make for some exciting content while you get your other projects going.
Hey Pingwuan - Great to hear from you and thanks for the kind words! I may end up doing a video on getting the garage set up; thanks for the tip on that. More to follow! Scott
Sad to hear it. Was watching this series closely to learn more about the IDI and these trucks. Ive got a 7.3 IDI turbo and my brother has a 6.9 NA. This series was fantastic and I learned a lot from it. Thank you for sharing every step of the journey!
Congrats on retirement! Active duty Air Force here! Found your channel because I’m actually restoring a 93 f250. Good luck with the move can’t wait to see what other kind of toys you got!
Thanks, Matthew and thanks for your service! I'm back home now, growing my hair and my beard, and contemplating my next move! Might have to be my '68 GTO convertible!!! Scott
Thank you for your service! A tough pill to swallow , losing a project like this. I am building a Ford F Super duty but adding 4 x4. Interesting as it parallels my work. Interested to see what you have in the future!
It was a tough one to let go, but I really didn't have much of a choice. Kind of painted myself into a corner. F Super Duty 4x4 sounds like a cool build! Scott
Sad to see Brutus go but good luck and I'll keep following to see what you what's next. And congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your service.
sorry to hear this, brutus is how I subscribed originally. I checked in to see why I hadnt heard from you in a while. Never have I encountered such thorough and enthusiastic instruction in the care and rehabilitation of one of these beautiful creatures. I look forward to future posts from you, Scott, but man, what a shame to see Brutus go away unfinished. Happy retirement but maybe the new owner can keep us posted?
It hurt me to sell it, Nicholas, but it was the only reasonable course of action. I need to check with the guy who bought it to see what he did with it. Thanks, Scott
Aww man, I had a friend who was in a similar situation with a 78 Chevy truck. He owed 6 years after college and ended up finding a random family via friends of friends of friends, who had a large property where they allowed him to just park his vehicle on an gravel patch for literally years for free. A few things deteriorated in the 7 years it sat out there, but he would go down there every once in a while, (when he could which was sparse) with some rodent repellent, poison and charged batteries and crank the engine over for a bit so when he finally got back to it, everything was still mechanically in good shape, at basically no cost to him other than fuel to go visit it a few times a year. He finally got back to it and still drives it, he loves that truck. Personally, I’d rather at least try and do something like that and have a few setbacks due to neglect rather than hope to get a fraction of my money back out of a dream. But I understand if that’s just not in the cards.
Oh the similarities! I am retiring few days shy of a month from now, profit margins on projects eerily similar. Hobby not as business. Looking forward to the next chapter! And to see future projects.
Man i just found the channel today and i live in eastern ky little town just got my buddy to move ba k home and be with his family he served 4 years and ended in fort hood! Im sorry about brutus man sure would have liked to see that truck completed but im excited to see whats otw!
Congrats on retirement, thanks for your service. I feel ya I have a 71 Dodge W200 thats a DD that I cant get from Fl to Arkansas unless I decide to drive it slowly the 1400 miles.
Thanks Deepblu dude. I'm very familiar with the tyranny of distance; once moved 4 project cars, one at a time, from Virginia to Texas, and then promptly got sent back to Virginia!
Hey Randy - I'm back home but not settled in yet. The movers will be here in a few days and it will take a bit of time to get the garage straightened up. The Alfa is up next, followed by the 68 Lemans convertible. Thanks, Scott
I was wondering when the retirement date was going to come for you Scott. I hope all is well. You should post a link to the auction. I haven't been on garage journal in a while since my work put a block on it. Oh well. I haven't made any progress on my project lately either since I'm awaiting surgery for an old Army injury that the VA is fighting me about. Best of luck to you. Hope to see the GTO or Fairlane on the channel soon.
Hey Karl - Good to hear from you! I don't think I can post a link to the auction; against YT rules. Sorry to hear that you haven't made much progress on your Fairlane; I always enjoyed your posts. I'll have to see what's up next, but probably the GTO. Take care, Scott
How much hp did you end up pulling from this build. Im curious. I have an 86 f250 with a 6.9 . It runs great but is limited. Wanna swap it for a 7.3 in the future. These videos gave me confidence in building one . R and D has some beautiful engines but im hoping to save a few thousand by building my own. Any tips on beefing up the block to support around 400-500 hp?
I had to sell it before I got it on the road, but I really didn't care about hp. This build was all about torque, and if I recall correctly, I was looking at around 250 hp and 550 ft/lbs.
Thanks for getting back to me. Really enjoyed the learning experience. Im a machinist so i really appreciated the details you gave. Hope to see more in the future. Keep up the good work!
Really disappointed that this came to a halt. I feel like there should be some type of unfinished or abandoned label in the previous videos so people (like me) dont watch almost all of them to get to the main installs just to get to the "Im moving it's for sale" video. Your entire marketing/branding of bulletproof garage has been building project brutus etc. Maybe go back and label the videos as what they are individually and not as part of this build... just s random opinion.
@THEBULLETPROOFGARAGE just to be clear. I am only disappointed because the content was so good. Any man that cant get a bearing to sit and ends up using a black bean can to get the job done can share my garage any time. Take care.
