Paladin got reworked in Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.3 but do not worry, Xeno is here to show you the way of SHIELD MODE. In this video Xeno goes over the paladin changes, gives his opinion on the offensive and defensive gameplay of paladin and shows you the new skill rotation, from opener to burst phase to everything in between.

There is a new rotation where you dont drop any attonements that ends up being higher rDPS ands ever so slightly lower aDPS. any thoughts on that priority style rotation vs the 60 second loop?

@James I favor adps, however if the rotation is easier and more consistent than I would recommend that to people because your damage prob be a lot higher.

Considering stun is mostly used to interrupt and not for long duration stunning, I think it would be interesting to combine Intervene and Shield Bash. 2 charges, 150 potency, 3-4 second stun with a gap closing shield bash animation.

I feel like Attonement would be more exciting if it was a 1-button combo like the Confiteor combo. I wished they replaced Goring Blade with a more exciting animation like GNB's Double Down or just replaced the ability with something else. Right now, Attonement and Goring Blade feel like they should be replaced because they feel like they don't belong. I could also argue the same thing with holy spirit.

I honestly think PLD was reworked with 7.0 in mind. My guess is that it will feel a lot better at 100.

@@1337penguinman Yea they talked that 6.3 is one of the revamps to come for Paladin, i think that means they gonna rework further personally, no idea though.

Important mentions: 1) never use Holy Spirit under Requiescat despite it having more potency that way - edit: when not under Divine Might buff. 2) FoF-> Req->Goring->Scorn->Expiacion sequence is perfectly self-aligned and is up whenever FoF is up as long as you don't miss the next Scorn+Expiacion doubleweave.

I don't see why they don't just replace Divine Might's potency with Req's potency of 650. And NOT make it consume a stack if you did a Holy Spirit.

Missed opportunity not calling this video "SHIELD MODE". 😂 On a serious note thanks for sharing your rotation and thoughts on the job. I always appreciate how your rotations try to account for randomness and go for reliability and consistency instead of chasing the absolute mathematical best as sometimes that can lead to some really cursed rotation stuff.

You explain thing well. Only thing I would improve on is when you were showing the rotation explain what you were doing while doing it. If you wanna go above and beyond then have like visuals. Especially for me have the trifecta while learning helps me allot. Trifecta being you voicing what your doing, Visual Ques like having the ability pop up on the side of the screen while also having your character doing said actions. It's allot of work I understand and take what I am saying with a grain of salt XD But other than some things that would help people like me learn your video was very well done. I've subbed and like this video and shared it to my fc. Hope it helps get your feed out there. (Id keep shield lob on just for those low end dungeon pulls. Maby setup another set of Hotbars for low end?

Here is my manifesto that no one asked for. I think this rework is awful and completely killed the job for me. You are now forced into a set opener and rotation like every other tank while the phys/magic divide was completely obliterated so you are pretty much locked into the same exact rotation for every fight without being able to choose which one to start with. People have called it a baby GNB but it feels like NIN without mudra more than anything. The best thing they could have done to make old PLD work is just make the ridiculous boss hitboxes smaller and every balance problem in the game would magically fix itself. Melee dps will have priority, not warranting the rest of the group to hold buffs, PLD's range phase would make up the dps difference between it and other tanks, 2min meta would eventually fall out of favour again and jobs like RDM/MCH wouldnt be in the dumpster as they have been for more than a year now. Now we are left with this husk of a job that feels like every other tank but with pretty lights and this "oh but its so flexible now!!" meme that is meaningless when melee downtine doesnt even exist since every boss just goes untargetable for everyone instead.

You actually raise a really good point, making boss hitboxes actually fit their model again would solve so many of the game’s issues, they literally created a whole host of issues for over a year for the sake of making the game easier for melees

@@MichaSennin Currently, pretty much all jobs do a big burst at the start of the fight and then again every 2 minutes, lining up with other players' raid buffs. This is the 2min meta. PLD's 2min burst is not as strong as other tanks, but they have higher consistent damage in between bursts. Before, this was balanced, as when other tanks couldn't hit the boss because it was too far and you were busy dealing with mechanics (this is known as melee downtime), PLDs still could with their ranged arracks, so it offset that difference between them. This led to a necessity to create specific openers/rotations for every fight according to the downtimes to make sure that your ranged attacks would come up at those precise moments, which is why a lot of PLD players, myself included, found it so fun to play. Now, however, the hitboxes are so absurdly big that no one ever has any melee downtime. That plus the focus on 2min bursts had PLD's damage suffer a lot in comparison, which is what led to this atrocious rework that effectively turned him into the exact same playstyle as other tanks. In any case, this probably wont affect you much since you are just picking up the job, just focus on other more general aspects of raiding and enjoy the game

If you wanna drop crit melds and get it down to 2.36 you can use the 60sec loop version of the rotation (basically kinda the same as whats in the vid) without ever having to drop an atonement

I'm PLD main, and I was scared, how the changes will affect me. But now that I've gotten the hang of it, I actually like the change better, although I did enjoy the previous PLD. I don't have to worry about Skill Speed anymore, it's easier to get burst into party buffs and I can still use my defensive cooldowns mostly like before. There are couple of small things I think should be addressed. First of all, Divine Veil's healing. Overall Divine Veil is better now, since it doesn't need proc anymore, but most often I find that its healing goes to waste, since the healing comes as soon as you use it. I think the heal should come after the shield effect runs out. Divine Veil is still used mostly to provide party mitigation for raidwides, and this is done in advance to the raidwide, not during or after it. And most of the time healers have managed to heal up the party before the next raidwide. In situations, where there is two or more raidwides coming in a row, Divine Veil like this works fine, but it is still quite rare. Second is Cover. It can be a good ability in certain situations, but those situations are far and wide between, in my experience. Most of the time I don't use Cover at all. Maybe it would be better, if it worked like Cover at some point did in Star Wars: The Old Republic. There, Cover worked like this: put it into a single friendly target, and a portion of the damage that target received was instead directed to the tank. The effect was permanent until it was deactivated. Cover in FFXIV could work in a similar manner, maybe something like: "For the next 60 seconds, 10% of the damage covered target receives is instead directed to you". This, I think, would make Cover more flexible in OT situations at least. One problem I find in Cover is the fact that it directs all the damage covered target receives to the PLD. And I agree Cover doesn't have to be limited to the Oath Gauge. Intervention can handle that. My thoughts on Shield Bash. In early game it's a good ability, but in late game it becomes useless, since all bosses become immune to stuns. And it also doesn't apply stun as well as Low Blow does. One thing that also limits Shield Bash's usefulness is WHM Holy. I do the opener a little differently from Xeno. Like this: Holy Spirit, basic combo, FoF+Requiescat, Confiteor, CoS+Expiacion, Goring Blade, Valor Combo, Holy Spirit, 3 Atonements and 2 Intervenes during FoF window. But using Royal Authority with FoF is fine, since it has the same potency as Atonement, and I can fit 2 Atonements for each FoF. "I don't know why people think this is like Gunbreaker." That's funny, because these changes made PLD a lot like GNB. Burst goes much the same with PLD now as does GNB's. GNB burst is to get Bloodfest, Double Down, Gnashing fang combo, Blasting Zone, Bow Shock+Sonic Break and 1-2 Burst Strikes with Hypervelocity into No Mercy-window. PLD burst is very similar now. The only apparent difference is Sonic Break DoT, as PLD has no equivalent for that. DPS wise PLD didn't get overall increase on its own, it's around the same it was before. But now that it has a clear burst that is relatively easy to get inside party buffs, it did receive a boost imo.

Is it so difficult to just increase the overall sustained damage instead of focusing on burst phase? Will it become too OP? I honestly like the previous PLD, sure it's aDPS sucks but it's good feeling nonetheless. At first I thought they were doing a complete overhaul, like SMN, but it's quite halfheartedly that it feels meh. I wish they reworked cover, some of my ideas that might be good: - Remove the tether - Remove costs - If want to tether, make it toggleable, so that we can cancel whenever we want and doesn't have to move far away (honestly this is so stupid, why can't we cancel it on the spot?) - Continuing from above, make it a dash towards teammates (if need to tether), like bruh I need to walk in and walk out to save a person. Make it like PvP, why so difficult?? you already have the skill inside the game brooooo - Better, when covering, you gain damage reduction, because duh? you are holding a shield?? covering?? Like a true PLD chad - Best is when you can use Invul with it lol, like PvP!! (again) Honestly PvP PLD feels more like a true PLD than PvE To add, Req should be changed to something like a Smite Evil from a DnD game, the effect could be increasing DH% or Crit% against that enemy (alone, or better for all PT members). Increasing damage taken would be too OP I think. I think the dev needs to play more DnD and know what an OG, Classic PLD truly do. I don't expect PLD to top the aDPS chart of all tanks, but at least we can excel in supporting members, like giving buffs. If we can't excel in aDPS, we can excel in rDPS instead. Then people would play PLD more. - Also, to make it more PLD, add AoE healing abilities. I know we are tank, but we are PLD, heal away. Useful when your H1 is dead and another raidwide is incoming. At least with this we can salvage a fight.

Every job has a power budget, when you have burst damage you're given the opportunity to improve your output by aligning with raidbuffs, they cannot make your nDPS so high that you can ignore raidbuffs and still match Dark Knight. You also won't be seeing DnD style PLD in FF because that's not what FF style PLD's are, in JP they are just called Knights you can expect more abilities in line with Agrias or Cecil Cover not being changed this patch is quite absurd though

@@Terribly_Grimm point taken. However, the changes that I mentioned doesn't necessarily take out the FF's paladin out of the image. Cecil's cover will automatically cancel itself if he gets too low, some PLD in FF franchise also has party healing. Also, adding party buffs into Req/burst phase should be acceptable to compete with jobs with more burst like GNB and DRK. I am saying is, we could be the NIN/DNC of the tank. We contribute through buffs instead of personal damage, should be an acceptable change by many players. This way, we can stay unique and also align with raidbuffs.

Personally, i feel all it's missing is an extra cooldown that lets you burn all your current Atonement stacks for an extra burst of damage. That would make it so you're no longer dropping Atonements and it would bring the burst up an extra notch.

Atonement should get it's old potency of 550 back. Why is it the same potency as Royal Authority? GNB's Solid Barrel doesn't do the same damage as Burst Strike. They didn't work on PLD hard enough.

@@MangoMid you are probably talking about the 120s rotation (the 1 with 2 burst loops, 1 for odd minute and 1 for even minute). The balance recommends the standard rotation, due to the fact that its the easiest to learn + the damage between all 3 of their rotations is almost exactly the same.

I know in raids and normal dungeon shield bash is pretty useless. But in PotD or HoH shield bash can drastically reduce the difficulty of many high level mobs by chain stunning them. So no I would want them gone at all.

me and my FC do runs of PotD for new players, the rule is the tank is always a PLD and I have to be Machinist, spamable Stun plus Double Interrupt is just too good, the latter totally shuts down Chimeras, they literally can do nothing to you, even if you get nightmare luck of FOUR. SODDING. CHIMERAS. IN-A-ROW!!! that was not a fun run lol

@@TheAuron32 4 Chimeras? Naw man. 6 Chimeras. And immediately after, double Chimera, one for each of the two doors in the room, right after spawning in that floor. Yes, I do have some Trauma from that too. I will admit though, Shield Bash definitely an early game move, that gets grown once you're not in ARR territory though. I don't know how useful it is in HoH though.

I'm no expert on Paladin by any means. But so far I like the changes. Still clunky, and I feel like more work needs to be done on it but it is an improvement. Edit - I wish they would do something more with Shield Bash. It's great thematically but maybe put it in a skill chain. After your 1, 2 hits (can't remember their names) you can use shield bash to deal damage but also apply a defensive buff of some kind. Just an idea.

Sheltron having DR instead of blocking is good for Holy Shield Bash into Holy Bladedance, since you can't block while CCed. Veil being instant _and_ shielding the PLD is a big pro because you can now reliably proc it when not in spell phase. The only con is that you can't cast it early to start the cooldown then proc it later. I miss not having DoTs on Goring and Blade of Valor, but basically what they did was add the combined potency of the entire DoT to the base potency so it does the full damage all at once instead of over 21 seconds. This is better because you're not going to lose potency from bad server ticks when refreshing the DoT. Overall, it certainly feels like I'm playing Endwalker now and not Shadowbringers 2.0.

Idk how they reworked a job and made its rdps worse, lamo. I know adps is what matter, whatever. As pld main i hate the new rotation bc its fucking boring and sucks, but i love it in term of mits, and i dont mind the new rotation for the new mits.

I would like an ability that refills the Oath gauge in the same vein as Infuriate, but defensively. Or something similar to Blood Weapon. Just more ways to immediately generate Oath for more situational usage. I like your suggestion on Clemency being a targeted Equilibrium, and Atonement not breaking combos. I have the same opinion on Shield Bash, get it away already... Cover, I think, could be better as a mini Hallowed Ground to give to someone, bit overpowered as far as suggestions goes. Instead of the full duration of Hallowed, you can give them a 2-3 seconds Hallowed Ground?

I think making Clemency OGCD and cost Oath would do a lot for its feel as a tank, with cover not having oath cost and reworked to be a dome around the PLD to reduce damage to a group of allies (makes it good for stacks) as a mini hollowed is way too abusable. I do think Requicast may as well turn into the confiteror into Blade combo, small shaving on button bloat. Boring Blade could be reworked into an OGCD or removed. Most agree its not that important. If they keep it, make it give a Divine Blessing maybe, to sneak in another Holy Spirit? It just feels disconnected to the rest of the class.

Honestly though, gauge has never been an issue for me on PLD. It builds up so fast that I'm dropping sheltrons just to keep from capping most of the time.

I feel like Shield Bash's animation could be used on an oGCD, if you for example see it on pvp, the animation flows quite well with PLD's animations.

Honestly I prefer warrior to all the other tanks right now. I like the simpler DPS rotation so you can focus on doing actual tank stuff. Not that you really need to with the way the game is right now, but at least you have that as an option.

Cover has some nice utility in EX5, you can single tank the fight with a PLD who covers the other person during the tb. But yeah, it's mostly useless on a class that has the most actions in the game

New Goring Blade being a GCD pisses me off and makes PLD to feel like complete garbage to me. It should've been a Blasting Zone equivalent from GNB but oh well...

This isn’t really related to how the job plays I guess but Holy Spirit feels like such a flaccid ability as far as animations, sound effects, and visuals go. From level 70-79 you don’t have Confiteor so you find yourself spamming this twinkly little snowflake ability and it just feels so lame.

Why do I feel like I do more to support my group with warrior than a paladin? Honestly it feels like they just shat this out as effortlessly as possible. I love the idea of Paladin but I think I'll stick with warrior.

Really hope they do something to goring blade. Thats the only thing that is really meh in this rework to me. I like the single holy spirit in each combo that keeps the pld mobility up and is freely usuable. I like it

Thanks for dumbing it down for me, but I think I'm gonna stick to flexing between DRK and WAR myself, been having fun on WAR for a bit and that new Shake buff is neat

I wouldn't worry too hard about trying to follow strict filler rotations. You can treat the job as a basic priority system, using all atonements every time, and so long as you get your gore/conf combo/at least 1 buffed HS the damage difference is negligible compared to the strict loop with dropped atonements. The priority is: 1) Buffed HS 2) Atonement 3) RA Combo If you do that and use your oGCD on cooldown you should be fine. Sure you might end up with a fast or riot in your burst sometimes, but the damage gained by not dropping atonements evens that out. You can swap around the order of your HS and atonement GCD as needed for uptime/buffs so long as you use both before finishing your next RA combo. I think this will be easier to remember and execute for most players as opposed to the stricter 60s/120s loop rotations. The order of your GCD in burst also doesn't matter, so long as you hit everything within FoF, you are free to shift them around as needed. Example being if a fight makes you drop out of melee range mid burst, you can delay your conf combo till the back half your burst rather than doing it first. Just be careful with this since if you push back gore/req it will effect when they come up in all future bursts, so I would try to use those as close to the start of your burst as possible.

@@AaronWOfficial Yes, priority system does have weaker burst, but it evens out with the stronger filler in terms of raw potency. Keep in mind that atonement is a pretty high potency filler GCD, even unbuffed. In practice you only end up with fast/riot in your burst at odd minute windows, and your 2m bursts should always be with atonement or RA as the filler. Even in the odd bursts you still usually end up with mostly atonement/RA filler, and you are able to get the big 2 HS burst sometimes as well. Over the course of a fight it evens out pretty well once you do the math, atleast in terms of raw potency. It's hard to say for certain how it will play out with raid buffs currently without solid data from ACT. I think really the choice will come down to fight specifics with kill time and downtime effecting your ability to follow strict loops and also how much filler you can do.

@@sirforcer from an optimisation standpoint, it is prob the difference between a 95 and a 99 parse. If optimisation isn't your bag, its probz fine to use the standard rotation. But if you care more about minmax then standard rotation probably not the way to go. In fact id say the 2 minute 2.5gcd rotation is probably the most potent since you do not drop any atonements with that rotation + fit all your burst into buffs, but it is also the most difficult to learn. Plus not everyone is comfortable with 2.5 gcd bis, since for the majority of this games life the paladin wanted faster gcd to fit 2 goring blades into fight or flight and some mains who played pld for years probably stuck with the faster gcd speeds. For those reasons I would say, probably the most accessible rotation for minmax dps would be the 1-min loop over the standard opener. The 1 minute loop execution isn't actually that difficult either. The balance recommends the standard loop, and also recommends not using the 1 or 2-min loop since there is practically 0 difference in dps performance. But 1. They have not accurately tested that yet, this is all theorycrafted from hitting dummies and does not factor in raid buffs. 2. They said practically 0 difference, not actually 0 difference. There is still a difference, or they would not bother posting the rotations in the first place. 3. The fact the 1 and 2 min rotations are (probably) slightly higher dps on dummies, suggests that in a light\full party scenario with raid buffs in the mix there would be a larger dps gap since the burst window would be higher potency with those rotations. It is the same for a lot of jobs, they have a rotation that is fine for solo content but in a raid environment the rotation is trash. This of course remains to be seen, but I am pretty sure that at some point the balance will change their stance and recommend the 1-min loop for a comfy middle ground on dps, and recommend the 2-min loop at 2.5 gcd for max dps. I've seen it happen before so many times, that I am expecting it again.

@@AaronWOfficial Keep in mind that 2m loop is same DPS as the 1m loop. The hardcast HS are a decent filler to force timings, but are your weakest filler GCD (not to mention that the cast time delays your auto attack). The 2m burst on both 60s and 120s loop is the same, so if all you care about is maximizing your potency in raid buffs they are equivalent. The 120s rotation actually has slightly weaker odd minute bursts (Atone vs DM HS) so if that matters to you then you should be doing 60s loop. Realistically I don't think the rotation choice will really matter that much at the end of the day. Looking at last patch, I was able to get 99s with fast PLD despite slow PLD being preferred, and the DPS difference between these rotations seems to be less on paper than even that was. We are talking about a difference of two GCD at the tail end of your burst, which when compared against everything else is less impactful on your overall DPS than the difference between a crit/DH conf or not. At the end of the day the 99s will go to whoever crit their burst more regardless of rotation.

@@AaronWOfficial Both work at 2.5s GCD, faster GCD isn't recommend anymore but should work with either, just add an extra hardcast HS or drop one less atonement. The primary difference between the 60s and 120s loop rotation is the 60s drops a couple atonement every minute while the 120s instead adds in 3 hardcast holy spirit. 120s also has a slightly weaker burst on odd minutes since it includes 2 atonement rather than the even minute bursts which have RA and an extra HS (the same as the 60s loop burst shown in Xeno vid) The advantage to the 120s loop vs the 60s loop is the extra hardcast HS give you more flexibility in dropping out of melee range if needed and slightly more self healing (I'm not sure how much that really matters, given that it's 3 holy spirit spread over 2 minutes if that would save a healer GCD in practice) Either way, adhering to a strict rotation loop isn't recommend anymore anyway, I would view these more as starting points for ideas when mapping out a fight for optimization, rather than the go-to general rotations. Even then on paper the damage of all 3 rotation options seems fairly equal with the data we currently have available.

They basically rearranged the burst by combining your fight or flight "dump everything" and magic combo period and then mixed atonement up with post-combo casts. It's neat on paper but they effectively traded "a lot of work every minute for so little payoff" to "less yet constant work for little payoff", and threw a Balwark on top for no real reason. I'm just gonna replace Cover just so I can fit Clemency on my damn controller bars.

Atonement could be from Royal Authority (especially since it breaks combos, so never a reason to use the first 2 hits for RA with atonement up anyways), and goring is currently just....there. if they want to keep it, give it divine strength or something so theres a use to it.

Changes seem like what mnk got in ShB. Like they are working towards whatever rework they may do. I didn't really care for goring before mainly because it felt odd compared to the other tanks, kind of like the war damage buff being tied to a combo. Like it's just there to be a button while drk and gnb just ape through with 1 primary combo. RA also looks better than goring animationwise

Cover needs to be deleted. Goring Blade should either be deleted or turned into something more exciting. Atonement needs to be merged into another skill or redone as well. I don't want Paladin to be bare bones but it also has a shockingly high number of buttons that somehow accomplish very little. OH, and make the gap closer a level 60 skill while you're at it.

Req exclusively used for your confi combo ignoring completely it's mechanic of free amped spirits has always been poor and clunky design to me. Boring blade and confi combo losing the DOT has left the job in a state of no management/upkeep. And I may just be in the minority on this opinion but pure damage longer cooldown abilities do not belong on tanks if not tied to some kind of interesting synergy like inner release and primal rend or even the free holy spirit finisher we get now. This 2min burst rotation meta has slowly decayed the game's combat into stagnant repetitive by the numbers rotations. With completely irrelevant buttons outside of the two minute timer. Everybody is a DPS just some blue or green that can and can't take a hit.

I'm pld main and i don't like the rework. i'm not gonna drop the job, since it's my starter job, and i really like it. 1) Sheltron nerf (yes i miss block even tho i think the block itself should be reworked) 2) removal of dot's is a plus, but Goring Blade is too weak. ty for keeping it in the game, we didn't lose it like Kaiten but still why it is just 700 potency. make it and 800, but cost a gauge maybe, i duuno, it feels strange. 3) Single holy spirits after RA feels completely out of place. The major thing of REQ was 8 GCD of PURE MOVEMENT AND DAMAGE AT RANGE. When others will cast lighting shot, or more the boss awkwardly, i can move freely (with a loss of Autos ofc) and still contributing to team dmg in a good amount. What would've been better is you got a choise on what you can spend DIvine Might, be it HS or Clemency. 4)F Finally we got Divine Veil to how it should be. It shields you, and JUST WORKS. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. But Cover still useless, since it's on Gauge, And if target got DOT on it, before you use cover, it will die since cover don't work on dots. It shields you from almost all the dmg (and knockback btw) that comes after the cover is active, but cannot mitigate dot that was appiled before, and it won't help against anything that is already on you. Passage of Arms should be renamed to "Loosing uptime if you channel it" or, what i would ask for, make it like a SCH\WHM assylum (sorry whatever this dome called) and forget it. Yes, we gonna lose awesome animation, and stuff, but atleast it will be more viable, be usefull all 18 seconds of it, and, pld can still be in the fight, even when it is active. Clemency is still an emergency "Cringy healer in dungeon/PF/Prog tool" and nothing more. Sad. just make it a OGCD, since mana management on pld is a joke, and it would help this ability significantly. Well, even tho i'm kinda summoner-ish now, i'm still happy about some things. Ah, i almost forgot. Make Shield bash part of the rotation pls, or just remove it. Thank you.

I’ve always felt a good additional effect to clemency would be for it to give a bit of your path gauge every time you use it to heal. Maybe like 10 oath. It’d incentivize you to use it a bit more often, since you’d also get to use more oath moves as well..

It's way more flexible, and way easier to understand. The issue is that I really enjoyed just how precise everything was. your 1-2-Dot led perfectly into a 1-2-3-4-4-4, so that you can go right back to 1-2-Dot right when it ended. same with Req phase. You could go from the melee DoT into a magic phase, then right into your main combo again without losing a second of uptime, as long as you could maintain constant uptime though. It was really fun to get everything working right, but now it just feels basic and uninteresting. Paladin always felt like it should be the ordered tank. You're supposed to be a bulwark of constitution and tradition as the noble tank, and the gameplay felt like it. What I'd do to fix it is to let you stack up three stacks of Divine Might. That way you can save them up throughout your melee phase to spend in your magic phase while still having some range opportunity where you can use one in the melee phase. Give us back our damn DoT! if they must do something with it outside of just making it a different combo action, I'd say there should be no combo or recast. Instead have it take up all three of your stacks of Sword Oath. It can last 25 seconds to get the feeling of the dual-combo rotation like before. you'd go 1-2-3-DoT-1-2-3-4-4-4-1-2-3-DoT. Then your magic phase would be extended by how many '3's you pressed in your melee phase.

Shield bash should be an ogcd cone stun on a 30 sec cooldown. At least then it would be worth using in dungeons. I’m shocked cover didn’t get changed. New goring blade is the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen. Remember when they removed ninja’s shadow fang because it was just a button you hit once every minute and forgot about? Why’d they give paladin the same button? I hope the devs really try with job design in 7.0. Were down to maybe 3 jobs that are actually interesting/fun now and it’s really disappointing.

Overall, I like the new pld changes. I do wish we would've gotten some stuff address. Maybe in 7.0 Shield Bash - make this more decent. Is that even possible outside of making it so it doesn't break combos. Maybe oGCD? Even then, stunning enemies have diminishing returns, and bosses outside of ARR are mostly immune. Plus, Holy does Stun better Cover - I really don't know why we have this skill at this point. It's so niche. You're better off using your gauge on something else. Intervene - Would've loved to see us get this a little bit sooner than level 74.

WALL OF TEXT ALERT Some few things that I find PLD to be worse at now; survivability is worse overall, you could get 400 cure potency times 8 through Req, which now is only 400 times 4, and Divine Might just seems... like a weak or slow version of the other tanks' 1-2-3 combo heals without adjusting the healing (no SkS; WAR at 250 cure every 3rd combo, DRK at 300 cure every 3rd combo, GNB at 200 + 200 potency shield every 2nd combo), and PLD gets 400 cure whether it's AoE or single target at at inconsistent rate, every 4th through 1-2-3, or every 3rd GCD through AoE which is unique to them at least... In regards to Goring Blade... its overall Potency per minute has been reduced, 250 potency + 65 per server tick for total of 21 seconds, totaling a 705 potency for its entire duration... but it doesn't stop there, DoTs can also critically direct hit... meaning not only is Goring Blade longer in cooldown, but has lower overall damage potential because of loss of DoT... a lot of math is involved, but Going Blade now is just a bad Sonic Break at 200 less potency (300 + 60 * 10 damage over time totaling 900) or Blasting Zone with extra 30 second cooldown... In addition... Sheltron overall feels a bit weaker too now, with the removal of block from it, it now reduces damage taken by 15%, whereas the block was 20% damage reduction, only to reduce the damage taken. The mitigation design for this new PLD is just... bizarre, why choose PLD, when you can take WAR's Shake it Off which now also Heals over time? Why take Passage of Arms, when most DoTs are magic and can be negated by Dark Missionary or Heart of Light, or even Shake it Off now? Paladin now is overall just questionable to me.

you actually get 7ish heals per minute now, not just the 4 from req. since you have might'd spirits to spend which also heal you. those effectively replace the old req spirits you used to do also passage is the strongest party mit in the game at 15% general, vs the other tanks only being 10% magic. along with also bringing a slightly lesser shake it off along with it in veil

In terms of Passage of Arms... yes, but only if there's forced downtime, if you prolong its duration while the boss is up... it's an overall loss of DPS for the sake of taking less DoT, this is where PoA suck, same with Divine Veil. They should buff Divine Veil to received a 10% mitigation to compete with Shake it Off as it just got buffed to have a HoT.

@@clinngereveneye3438 uh, that's actually better imo. in my experience most of that healing being forced into req would wind up getting wasted outside of trash packs in dungeons or something. with dots, you do realize that they take a snapshot of the mit on you at the time of applying right? so you can just weave wings before the attack goes out, put it down, and the 15% applies to all dot ticks. the area where wings are *actually* worse is that the party has to work around it rather than it being fire and forget. do agree veil should've been buffed though

Honestly this was a lazy "Rework". I've been loyal to PLD since I started FFXIV in 2017. 5.0 PLD was the BEST! You had a 4-Atonement rotation and the 2nd highest DPS behind GNB. None of the other tanks have to deliberately drop resources to keep the loop going. They either didn't test this or they didn't care enough to make it better. 🤷🏾

@@delsingray5923 by resources I'm talking about stacks of Atonement. Would it make sense for DRK to drop a Bloodspiller or Edge of Shadow because Blood Weapon is coming off Cooldown? Or WAR dropping a Fell Cleave because Inner Release is coming off cooldown? Atonement is weaker than those 2 but it still makes no sense for PLD to throw them away to not drift Fight or Flight. Either buff Atonements Potency and reduce it to 1 or 2 stacks. Or throw the whole skill away and do something else.

If you didn't get the proper answer yet, Confiteor and all 3 Blade followups use Req stacks now. Req only gives 4 stacks which is one for Confiteor + Blade of combos, using a Holy Spirit in Req will take a stack and neuter the potency of a Confiteor attack

only stun in the entire game that has no cd and you can spam it endlessly. If you think shield bash is bad, YOU are bad at the game. It's absolutely priceless and almost a requirement in some content, like potd. It's also MASSIVE mitigation in dungeons if your healer or dps are struggling. Rotating shield bash around a group of 5+ mobs can literally save a pull from wiping. Also if you use it correctly, cover is one of the best skills in the game. If they removed the gauge requirement it would be 10/10 useful. If you're not using cover on the regular, you're playing pld wrong.

I don't understand videos like this discussing things like "openers" and "rotations." What is there to optimize? I've been playing for over 2 years, and I never considered these things until I recently leveled GNB and BLM. To me, the fun comes from the combos and weaving of abilities because you press the buttons in fun patterns. At least on controller. I don't know HOW you could have fun playing with a keyboard, because the satisfying combos are gone. Maybe I'm missing something. Still love this game to death.

I think to make Goring blade more worth it they should bumped the initial hit to the 700 potency like they did but kept a dot at 300 potency on it also.

There are a lot of dungeons where you can stun enemies, it's pretty standard for white mages to use holy during mob pulls (which stuns the mobs). Some bosses in lower level content are even stunnable. That's one reason why having a skill (shield bash) that can stun is useful; there's no benefit to removing it from the game. Cover can save someone from death (and the associated damage penalty), as it has in plenty of my raids; I think it's better to leave it in than to remove it, but I can see an argument for removing to simplify the game. Never seen his content before, although this video kinda feels like he's intentionally being abrasive, maybe that's just his style.

The thing is though that yes alot of monsters can be stunned by shield bash but the question is do you want to? Especally when low blow excist that is ogcd so you can weave it without sacrificing any dps at all. So I guess it can be usefull if you for whatever reason really want to stun something else less than 25 seconds after using low blow. Also remember that you can't stun lock enemies forever in FFXIV as they gradually get stun resistance efter each time they are stunned making these skills even less usefull against trash mobs if you have a white mage in your party.

Am I the only one that noticed you can still cast holy spirit three times after Req before you go into confetti combo?? Or am I high and not being optimal?

@@ampur2 you can still do three holy spirit then do the whole confetti combo, try it. req, 3x holy spirit, then you can stiill do the whole combo. I was doing it yesterday. Try it out and let me know if im not crazy. Girl is using the ps5 right now.

What you are forgetting is that with this new iteration of PLD you want to use everything inside FoF for as much DMG as possible. That includes your free holy spirit and the whole confetti combo. Using three holy spirits would throw that off. The problem is fitting everything inside a 20s window, which is something that GNB also suffers with

@@techdeth sure you can do that but have you seen the unbuffed blade combo potency? Much better to spend your req charges in the combo than spam holy spirit 3 times (holy spirit is 600 potency on req while the blade combo is 900-700-800-900)

As a main paladin your rotation you came with is very similar as mine. The difference in the opener is after requierscat i do. Requierscat > Reprisal > Holy Spirit > goring blade > circle scorn > expiacion >blades and between the intervention. The loop is the same aton. X3 > royal authority combo > 2 aton. Circle scorn > expiacion > expiacion > holy spirit > royal authority combo and then I need to do or 2 aton or 1 aton and 1 hs if I know I will need to disengage the boss so I can do from far without casting still gonna drop 2 aton in that case. Due to I will re enter to my burst (opener). Good video for dummies. And even if you don't play pld you have a great understanding of it!

@@ampur2 well since Shb more less bosses enter with a wide aoe, more less is after 10 seconds battle start so that means you need to or double weaving you an do after or before royal authority which mean or you do before fof or after (for me is to early) or after the royal authority (before or after requiercat) that is up to the person.

Spamming circle is a dps loss tho, unbuffed it does as much damage as total eclipse at 100 potency

I was so hyped for Paladin. It was my first tank class before I dropped it for DRK. I tried it for the first 2 days and the class is still boring to play. I dropped it instantly for WAR To clear dungeons and DRK for raids. PLD is just the flashy pretty class. Paladin needs more dmg or fix Gorin blade, holy spirit and clemency. It's in a Weird spot for me.
