This scene hurt so bad. And Cid left such a void for the rest of the game. I felt the lack of his presence throughout the rest of my playthrough. Incredible character
@@beatsbyadmiralz5915 yeah lol. The guy who looks like, talks like and has the same personality as balthier. He even has the same story basically. An outcast who has now turned into a badass. He had zero character development and basically was there just so clive could take over and do what cid failed to do. Gav is at least memorable. Did you beat the game? Gav has crazy development near the end. No this doesn't say much because the entire game was mid in every way. The characters were atrocious except torgal and gav. Ask yourself, what did Jill add to the story lol? She is literally another clive with the same brooding and boring personality, the same exact goals, the same back story etc. The game was a mess. I dont even think I died once. I nist breezed through it
He doesnt. You havent played the game and your making a fool of yourself. Please stop before you surpass the legendary 9999 dislikes.@@NWOtion Cid has INSANE character development before and AFTER his death, via flashback, via his daughter, via his legacy as an outlaw. It is one of...No. Fuck that. It is THE FF character with the most character development i have ever seen in any FF. Torgal is a wolf. Only dev he gets is , oh surprise, seems like he is a dominant wolf and thats why he always was attached to Jill. THAT IS IT. Meanwhile , Cid motivations becomes Clive motivations TOPPING even avenging Joshua. Also , i just KNOW you havent played the game since you compared Cid to Batlhier. Balthier is all about being a show person , a cool guy. Meanwhile, Cid is ALL about sacrifice , how a man should choose his death. You have no idea what your talking about , its ridiculous, you could not even point to one scene where he acts like balthier and Gav? Yeah sure Gav has development , but not to this point , its funny you mention him tho, since he KEEPS mentionning all game everyone is basically living in the shadow of cid. What Jill added to the story? Another Clive? Now he has to be trolling. Rofl.
Imagine after the 5 years reveal and the game reveals the title “Final Fantasy 16” people will be like “WhAAAT?! That was the beginning?!!! I’m already like 20 hours into the game and u telling me that’s the beginning?! Wow!” 😂
I like how they used Cid's theme for his death, both because he is passing his torch to Clive and because he dies happy with no regrets, knowing full-well that Clive and the others will continue to follow his mission. One of the best characters in the game.
When Cid theme starts playing, i couldn't help but cry with Jill and Clive. An amazing character and an amazing track, gives you that feeling of hope for a better future.
music suits this moment so well, somber yet hopeful. made me tear up. hoped Cid would survive somehow (despite all the flags) but when his theme kicked in i knew he was a goner. still sad; miss having him around, he would've loved the new hideaway. alas, his legacy lives on.
I agree, I don't get how people think the Hideaway was a happy theme/place; it's a place where former slaves come to try and live a calm life. Peaceful? Sure. Happy? Nah, I don't think happy's really a thing in FFXVI.
@@maillardsbearcat ever since they showed that Cid was coughing blood whenever he went serious, I knew that he would sooner or later die and his death would motivate/inspire to continue his journey. Even though I saw it coming, his death scene was still executed really well. Generally, the character writing for ff 16 is off the charts
When this happened I felt that we had lost Cid way too soon, but the way his influence just permeates through the rest of the game, years after he's gone, and how the narrative is kind of built upon his dream, it's just mastercraft writing. When Final Fantasy is this good, the world feels right.
> first time playing FFXVI > Cid dies > Starts to cry "this game is breaking my heart 😭" > hears voice "in ashen grip, let ember glow" > looks up through tears, "wtf is that Roxas?!"
The fact that i played this right after Resident Evil 4 Remake and i had to, for the second time, watch the man I love die protecting me after we went down a mineshaft and I grabbed him from falling and then lit his cigarette/cigar as he talked with his dying breath about how people can change fucking destroyed me. I'm still not okay.
Man I was yelling out no when cid’s music started to play. Then when he started giving Clive his power i started ugly crying. Ugh. Such a powerful moment, I wish he didn’t have to go so soon
This story is so amazing. Cid is incredibly well written, after helping Clive realize he killed Joshua, Cid gives him purpose to live again. Best final fantasy I've ever played
For many games we got to see cid on many different ways. Whether a party member, supporting character, or even villain. Yet this game we took the mantle of cid and became his spiritual successor. Amazing little twist
Ngl once I figured the Dragon's mechanics I was like "Oh many of the mechanics are similar to the Dragon's fights from XIV Heavensward but adapted to an action game" and then as I finished the fight it hit me... the Ishgard asthetic, the foreshadowing at the bridge, clive bonding way too much with cid... he was going to die... like Haurchefant... and he did... killed protecting us.
I love how Naoki Yoshida clearly took inspiration from Masashi Kishimoto. The last cigar is basically a 1:1 copy of Asuma Sarutobi. Jill even nails the Ino Yamanaka role here and Clive is basically Shikamaru. Right down to inheriting Cid's legacy. This game is just full of Easter eggs from various different fictions across the world.
Ralph Ineson is a legend, he's done lots of acting and voice work primarily on British TV, same with Shaun Dooley. 2 great actors with great voices, I'm glad they're branching out into video games
I just got to this scene today...and I wish I hadn't because the tears immediately came and had to take a little break from the game. Such a powerful and emotional.scene!
It’s not suicide as he already said he would not be getting to a healer or someone capable of treating his wounds in time. He knew he was approaching his end.
I see people downplaying cid like he nothing but cid is the one that help both jill and clive to fight the fate you know my man failed to do stuff cause he lack power and company unlike clive who has both but to able to go that far with how he is it still amazing he character is short cause if not then clive cannot grown to stand on his own
I really wanted this Cid to be around much much longer especially with no powers so that way he could take on the role of a mentor for both Clive and Jashua
I dont know about the music, but it certainly devastated me. What I wish is that there is a bit more mourning time in the game. I have to stop playing as Im actually mourning, but maybe its just me being weird.
Was I the only one that heard references to Zack from Final Fantasy Crisis Core in the music? These heroes passing the torch to continue the fight. Under the Banora tree is what this theme reminds me of as well.
The whole scene did not do justice to the sympathetic character of Cid. As drastic as the event was, it could have been implemented much more dramatically, maybe even morally dilemmatic for Clive. The fight that preceded it was in no way on the level of previous boss fights and did not give Cid the set he deserved.
I’m trying to figure out how that even killed him. He was in the form of ramuh so he should’ve been able to heal a hole like we can regen a torn off arm right?
I think the point is he chose to die (being able to choose it for himself). Having Ramuh was keeping him alive and by giving Ramuh to Clive caused him to succumb.
@@pyxl666when they met again at Martha's Rest there was a glimpse of Cid's arm turning to stone, not to mention him coughing blood every time he uses Ramuh's powers. It was only a matter of time and he chose to die on his own terms, as he said.
@ralph9575 Also-also, early on you see Cid light his cigars himself, but after the scene with his arm, he lights it using a crystal. Such subtle detail
Ok so i've watched back this scene multiple times since getting to this point in the game. Initially when i first saw this scene. I was somber because of Cid's death but also completely taken out of it because of this almost happy go lucky music. And i know that its Cid's theme and everything but to me all i think of when i hear it is chilling out at the Hideway, since thats the place where i heard that music the most. I just think using a slightly different version of his theme that is a bit more somber would have fit perfectly but i still respect what they were going for. And if you think its perfect then more power to you but after watching it multiple times it still feels the slightest bit off. Especially with Jill and Clive crying their eyes out and clive screaming at the end. But hey thats just one guys opinion. Please don't kill me.
I personally never interpreted the music as "happy", even in the Hideaway. It was always somber, yet hopeful to me. Nothing about this game is particularly happy. But to each their own.
No it’s literally perfect. It’s not a sad song and it’s cids will to defy destiny and do things his own way. It didn’t feel sad it felt powerful and emotional especially with the song!!!! It couldn’t have been any better
Nah I disagree. His death playing this song completely changed the meaning of the song. It was optimistic and hopeful at first, but once Cid dies the song has a completely new meaning and is somber and heartfelt. Whenever you hear the song again you only think of CID’s death
Such a stupid cut scene, they don't show him getting injured in depth, just a few beams and he's done for while in form....cmon this just made it seem he was so weak and already dead. At least have him do something heroic
Sad but this was kind of lame. Not only did the music suck, but they should have had him die doing something more heroic or saving the people since he was meant to be the man of the people.
CID Seeing Clive could do way more with his powers than cid ever could is the most heroic thing a person can do. He sacrificed himself for something he was chasing that he know the person can do a better job at. It’s literally so damn heroic and not selfish but his own way! The song was powerful the notes going up and do dramatically! It was perfect
First time a Cid has died in FF history! I was very saddened and heartbroken for this! He still went out like a baddazz! Big Boss vibes too! Clive crying!!! 😭
