I think theres a good amount of defensive options in the game, jumping, normal dodging, perfect dodging which requires slightly better timing and guarantees a counter, titans block, titans counter ability, phoenix's magic counter, shiivas dodge which has stricter timing but basically stops everything, and probably the hardest and coolest of them all; parrying. I think the critique about movement options is also valid but only in context of defense, since really the best movement option you have for defense is shiiva. For me I think they shouldve let you juggle bosses, that wouldve been really cool, and also different weapons wouldve been nice.

Besides jumping, all the options you mentioned are just timing a single button with an enemy attack. Sure they do different things allowing a bit of diverse defensive strategies, but they are nowhere as good as having lots of movement tech in a huge area with many enemies while simultaneously hitting them with all kinds of combos. There are enemies you can juggle in FF16 and enemies you can't in DMC 5. I think it's a matter of enemy size design. It would have been cooler i guess if they did that, since they would focus even more on the offensive part which is what's good about it. Still, they need to keep improving the combat if they are willing to make future action games. Thanks for the feedback.

@@SolonGaming That's true and I appreciate your points on KH2, it's one of my favourite action RPGs of all time, but I genuinely do wonder what other games also have advanced defensive options. Off the top of my head I can't really think of much, as for me KH2 is the best game that incorporates general movement for platforming as well into combat. KH3 is also good at that as well. Also if you liked KH2 you should also play Ys 8, the game is fantastic and I think it does a good job at incorporating elements of both offense and defense into its fights.

@@superboy9431 KH3 was a step down from KH2. It tried to combine the combat mechanics of all previous KH games and ended up being quite a mess. Not a bad game, but could be a lot better. I have played old Ys games as well as Ys VIII. I loved a lot of stuff about that game. The characters, the world, the combat movement and especially the soundtrack. My only problem with it's defensive combat was the invincibility frames which make the game way too easy. The offensive part and the RPG element were lacking. The game is pretty basic but it was still a very enjoyable experience.
