Sephiroth showed up and cloud shit himself. now his fun little adventure in smash is also filled with the same asshole who killed his girl and people he loved
What scares me the most about Sephiroth is how he never loses his cool. In a fight for his life, literally about to die, he always has the same tone of voice, like he plans everything, even his failures
I think that's because he knows he can win, but likes toying with Cloud in the most fucked up ways possible. Hell, even the devs have stated he's the strongest mf in Final Fantasy 7's universe, meaning Cloud is physically unable to beat Cloud aside from letting him win.
Mrimchaelson I hear what you are saying. He did do a lot of f’ed up stuff. Honestly his character was the best in crisis core. He had a human side to him there and could’ve done great things. If only...
What makes Sephiroth a great villain is that he was once idolized and revered by the Protagonist. That is someone you don’t want to be enemies with. So after the villain discovers half truths about his existence that drives him mad and destroys everything you love as a result, That admiration turns into terror and shear hatred by the betrayal of expectations and trust.
So when cloud says that he pities Sephiroth near the end of their climatic duel over the ruins of Midgar in advent children, it shows that Cloud has grown considerably stronger than he ever was.

@@benjaminkeith1417 Why did you write all that for a simple fun link? I get the feeling that yet again you assumed that I prefer and defended FF7Remake over the FF7 of 1997. Which aside from the graphics and further depth into characters like Biggs, Wedge, Jessie ect, I prefer the older one as it had more mystery and a hint of "thriller/horror" of sorts into it, with the blood all over Shinra building and the whole slow build up for the moment you met the epic Sephiroth. Sephiroth wasn't interested in Cloud, it was Cloud that kept trying to find Sephiroth the entire game and kept getting lured/baited/manipulated when he found Sephiroth. SE is not trying to re-write or retcon the FF7 of 1997 with this game. The way this game is sorta like a re-imagining or "root"(as in Tokyo Ghoul root, if you know of anime). So a lot of folks here are thirtstin on Sephy, and I agree he is hawt as f*ck in the remake....BUT, I think the developers did a good job with his eyes. They're this sickly green shade, with pupils like a reptile. They express hatred and malice: there is nothing the least bit comforting about them. I think that's good design on their part.
definitely. All the villains kinda had these darkish eyes, different from the heroes of the game but sephiroths eyes and face design are just on a another level.
He’s always had them, but I agree in this remake they’re even better. As this has better graphics, his eyes stand out way more than they used to. In other games and such, you couldn’t see them as much but every time Sephiroth’s on screen in the remake- his eyes draw you in almost. 🤧
What I love most about Remake!Sephiroth is how much he _terrifies_ Cloud. Compared to the original, where Cloud often spoke of him as one would an adversary or rival, Remake!Cloud acts as though he can't speak his _name_ without cringing in fear, further selling just how dangerous a threat Sephiroth poses and how badly shaken Cloud's been since what happened in Nibelheim; *HUGE* props to Cody Christian for capturing an aspect not touched upon in the original or its spinoffs!
Lot more realistic too how would you react if the man who sadistically murdered your mother and burned your entire hometown to the ground came back to life after you killed him Cloud thinks he's going nuts and the slow realization that he isn't and that Sephiroth is definitely still alive is absolutely terrifying to him.
Sephiroth is this Darth Vader-esque character who won't stop coming. The only difference is that Darth Vader was held back by his obsession against Kenobi and his conflicting emotions against Luke.
Its hard not to smile since he is pretty much immortal. The only thing Cloud and his friends can do is send him back to the lifestream from which he has found a way back twice now XD
Ironically one of the few times he isn't smiling is when he kills you with divine proclaimation if you let the timer run out in his fight. It's almost as if he's disappointed you didn't beat him
I totally agree for the therapy thing, and Cloud did not even live through Aerith death yet in this timeline and doesn't remember Zack's death either for now (if Zack's really dead in this new timeline that it)
BeWaRe Jay Yes. Tetsuya Namura is the director of the remake, the guy behind the Kingdom Hearts games and has completely changed the story so at this point who the hell knows. It is definitely not a straight remake.
@@yellowbeard1 While it's true that Nomura is the director of the remake, he's not credited for the writing of this game. Nojima is apart of the writing team for the remake who also happened to be a member of the writing team for the OG VII and ironic enough Nomura was actually apart of that same writing team for the OG VII and was even credited to have pitched that iconic Aerith scene.
Hexalys Walker I always imagined Cloud as normal height and Sephiroth as just. Giant. Like 6’6. The mostly monochrome outfit, long hair and shoulder pad things all make him look big.
They definitely made Sephiroth bigger in this game, maybe to give him a more intimidating super solider look. I don't recall him being that much taller than Cloud in the original or advent children
I can't believe this man time travelled but still missed Cloud's performance at the Honeybee Inn. Why time travel if you are gonna miss your nemesis' moment in life
@@Number-bj1yn The English translators were a bunch of idiots or sephxcloud yaoi fans. Seph didn't say any of that gay-ish stuff in the Japanese version of the remake. Also, seph didn't do anything that seemed gay or gayish in the original game either. Cloud was the one chasing Seph, plus some of the situations cloud allowed himself to partake in through out the original game (such as the honeybee inn hot-tub scene) made cloud come off as bisexual to say the least.
Does anyone else notice that Cloud's eyes are usually mako green, but when he sees hallucinations of Sephiroth, they go back to his natural blue? Especially in the end fight.
ukallii interesting to note: in advent children when jenova starts controlling cloud, his eyes become snake eyes. Like sephiroths are in this entire game. Crazy detail!
What I saw in a comment on another website really blew my mind. When you replay the game and keep track of when the whispers/Sephiroth appear it really shows how each is trying to change/maintain destiny. Sephiroth appears in the beginning, lures Cloud into a side street and talks several minutes with him, keeping occupied so he doesn't meet Aerith, cause Sephiroth knows, that this is the first step to his defeat. Then the planet intervenes and keeps Aerith with whispers in her place until Cloud finally meets her, even if later. Sephiroth even tries to make Cloud "run away" during their conversation so he doesn't bump into her. He even goes as far as to appear in the moment where Cloud actually meets her and tries to scare him away from her by saying "you can't protect anybody. Not even yourself. (So get away from her, cause you won't be able to protect her). It's really cool to see this hidden storyline that you don"/ understand the first playthrough, cause it raises the games replay value a lot. Seriously I'm mindblown. ^^ Feel free to give me more of those examples cause I like being mindblown. :D
The part where he says ‘Run Cloud. Run away. You have to leave. You have to live.’ is Sephiroth mocking the dying words of Claudia Strife. That triggers Cloud and boosts his hatred/memory of Sephiroth to become stronger.
“Let us defy destiny...together” *Didn’t Cloud already do that?* Pls if Sephiroth reached out for my hand and asked me to join him I’d snatch it right away I’d do anything for pretty boy 🧎🏼♀️🙏🏻
Those eyes, that hair, that stature, and those soft yet manly features. Sephiroth was too darn gorgeous in this game. I knew he was always lovely on the eyes, but this game just made him a wet dream.
To be honest .. that one part. Where cloud tells him 'never' and he looks away slightly an his head is down as if the answer pained him....reminded me so much of the way he showed pain in Crisis Core.
@@rayn1415 that's what makes it the most painful.... He is trying extremely hard but knows the people he faces and the way they are....even a lost and crushed cloud is a dangerous cloud. @@ZeldaLover6 yeah, but if the timeline is different -although not by much from what we've seen so far - it may appear that Angeal remains -or he could be 'waiting' for them in the life stream. @@isayahills4889 Zack was only recently dead in Clouds timeline and Zack’s timeline was a little behind so when the whispers were defeated he survived the army. @@knightmare3706 Guess I'm in the minority that thinks he is being overused. I mean part of what made him so menacing in the original was the fact you don't see a lot of him until nibelheim. It also kinda snubs shinra and rufus who is also a very interesting villain himself.
@@knightmare3706 Don't count your chickens before they hatch! There is something surprisingly nuanced about this games take on "Fate". At face value it seems to be about defying it, but things like Barrett being saved, or the car being protected by the helicopter crash seem to make the case for fate. We'll have to see, but I don't think it'll be as cut and dry as "fate removed = Aerith lives". What if changing fate actually ensures meteor's success? What if Sephiroth lured them there to unbind him from his inevitable defeat?
That's why I keep saying this Cloud VA is such an upgrade. Burton laid the groundwork for how Cloud's voice should sound but he was very one-note. This VA sounds very much like Burton but is capable of a lot more depth and nuance.
I still don’t get why this particular encounter terrified Cloud so much. I get PTSD and all that but why does it kick in so hard there and nowhere else?
@@fissilewhistle i would say they all equally shook him to some extent. the feeling of hating someone you once admired is quite painful, especially when a reason you admired them was for the fact they were strong, above everyone else. it solidifies sephiroth's power in cloud's subconscious. he would feel exactly what aura he exudes right then and there.
ghost They all shook him, yes, but not to this extent. Here Cloud is visibly and audibly about to shit himself. He can’t even muster the nerve to try and attack Sephiroth like in the first vision in Chapter 2.
"Cloud: i killed you with my own-. Seph: Oh you need not remind me, it was the crowning moment of our time together" That was the first dead give away that was the OG Seph screwing with the timelines.
Contractual issues with Steve Burton is the center of the problem. Burton had a contract that stipulates that only he is allowed to voice Cloud (prior to this game, ofc) and he cannot voice him under a pseudonym. The problem is, Nintendo doesn't really like using union actors (who tend to be a part of Hollywood as well), and recycling old lines would cause legal problems that would be too much of a hassle for both Nintendo and Square. As for Sephiroth, I don't know if George Newbern is also under a similar contract, but it's most likely just a case of a grandfather clause, for the sake of consistency with Cloud.
That fist appearance was brilliantly executed. For new players it foreshadows what's to come, and for us who played the original it's was really a shock to encounter him so early on. I loved ever second of that game.
@@jaybomb5638 true, but honestly it's hard to overcome nostalgia. The only thing I didn't care for were the watcher things. I understand what they represent, but I would've preferred it if they had left them out. I'm fine with there being a way to possibly save certain characters. As I recall, they originally intended there to be multiple endings. A remake is like a second chance at completing their original vision. I'm also fine with a few changes here or there to give old fans new surprises. The watchers however, seem like an easy copout to allow the changing of the story. Overall though I love this game, and I am an old school fan. There was no way they can please everyone, so they should stuck to their guns, and keep up the quality and perhaps surpass it with the next entries.
I love how the younger generation finally discovering the mighty sexiness that is Sephiroth.I played the OG FF7, Dirge of Cerberus & also watched Advent Children. I like to add one scary detail that I don't think not many people have noticed at first. Does anyone feel like whenever Sephiroth shows up, while it seems like he's looking at Cloud story wise. By the way his eyes and pupils are always turned to the screen, it really feels like he's looking at YOU the player...

I really feels like this version of Sephiroth REALLY shows what he really wanted to do to Cloud: break him down in both a mental and psychological sense. I think that becomes very apparent from the first time you see him in this game. I love it tbh
Cloud was the one to stab him through the chest when he was losing his mind trying to cope with his existence. If he let him bleed out we wouldn’t have the Sephiroth we know, but noooooo cloud pushed his body into the life stream and just HAD to create our mad man Sephiroth
@@fissilewhistle One reason could be that we never got them close while standing straight. FF7R gave us loads of Seph and Cloud next to each other, that's probably why

It was hinted in the original game, same here. Also, at one point, Sephiroth could even infultrate Cloud's mind and influence his actions A.K.A. tried to have Cloud kill Aerith.
Nic Of Light Cloud never blamed Sephiroth, he blamed Hojo for tampering with Jenova to create the illusionary crime against the real Sephiroth. The real Sephiroth was a good guy until he encountered Jenova.
I'm so glad someone else likes the new voice actor as well. I thought he made an excellent Sephiroth voice. It's really menacing and I love the emphasis put on Clouds' name.
I gotta say, I loved the entire FF7 Remake, and Sephiroth was one of the best things about it. I really liked how they handled him here. I can honestly say this was the first time I ever felt genuinely intimidated by Sephiroth whenever he appeared. There is something just unsettling about his presence. And to me, Tyler Hoechlin had a part in that. Although I still don' think he was the best choice for Sephiroth's VA, he did a LOT better than I thought he would. I liked how you can hear the underlying madness in Sephiroth's voice, no matter how calm he was. Really looking forward to see what they will do with Sephiroth in the next parts of the remake.
When Sephiroth killed the president I was like “Oh wow, Sephiroth just saved Barret’s life” then he just impales Barret like it’s nothing. It was actually pretty disturbing seeing him die even if he did get better. With this ending feels like anything could happen and nobody is safe anymore. Scary.
Rai I personally like the fact that they're taking certain risks with this game. Seeing how people react to different things and stuff, it's kinda neat. But at the same time, I don't want them to go too extreme to the point where it's no longer reminiscent of OG FF7.
I ALMOST DIED when I saw Barrett get stabbed. I was like *horrified gasp* NOOOOO!!! they did such an awesome job on this. I was hoping for fanservice and they FUCKING delivered!! Take my money square enix as long as I get more Sephiroth!!
But really though? I mean so far, every character who dies in the original game to this point (Biggs, Wedge, Jessie, Zack) either doesn’t die here or actually gets brought back to life
The more I rewatch the scenes from the game. The more I am convinced Sephiroth is trying to get Cloud to change the future out of fear, in turn causing Sephiroth to win. It seems like Sephiroth keeps seeding ideas to scare Cloud.
Ethan Rust why do you think he’s manipulating him? In the seven seconds scene it SEEMED he was humanized and maybe even cared. But you’re not alone in that manipulating opinion. Curious what you saw in that seven seconds scene
@@shaokhan4421 I haven't finished the OG game but I heard he was always kind of a manipulator. As for the seven seconds scene that one is really open ended. I think he's trying to seed the idea in Cloud's head that he can change his fate and Aerith's fate. If I was Cloud I would believe I had won and could defeat Sephiroth. When in reality Seph needs Cloud to save Aerith so he can win. He's giving Cloud false hope. Also a lot of my opinion on that is thanks to a streamer Maximillian Dood who essentially came to that realizing after thinking over the ending of the game and the OG FF7.
I'm actually getting the opposite impression. It seems this Sephiroth wants something different from OG Sephiroth. He even tries to help Cloud up and asks him (albeit in a creepy way) to help him defy destiny. What if Seph realised his destiny was to become a puppet to his own trauma and JENOVA and wants something else now?
He's like the grim reaper. Ephemeral, mysterious, and fatal. Something that shouldn't exist but does anyway. And everywhere he goes, death follows close behind
@@khornethebloodgod4155I like to think that since Aerith seems to know what’s supposed to end up happening to her, she sees Sephiroth and just goes “THAT’S THE BITCH WHO’S GONNA MURDER ME!”
Not to mention Barret. Even sadder when you consider that they were the characters first/original voice actors, but never got to voice them in the original story itself. Considering the voices changed from the first teaser for the remake to the second, i wonder why they changed their mind during development...
Wish I felt the same but nothing beats the original seiyuu voice actors. Versus any dubbed edited voices. I'd rather have an option of Japanese versus dubbed.
@@SephirothWaifu Depends on the property in my opinion. The majority of cases your right, but with Anime like Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball Z are far better in English than in Japaneses. You are both wrong. He is a great Superman. Just hasn't been given enough opportunity. He will thrive in his own show which comes out this fall if the virus stuff is sorted out.
Am I the only one who, when Sephiroth told Cloud: "Run, Cloud. Run away." at 3:55, I thought of the part in The Lion King when Scar tells Simba: "Run. Run away and never return."?
When you think about it, Cloud and Seph have same type of relationship as Scar and Simba. Simba looked up to his aloof uncle and was devastated when the person he trusted killed his father. Cloud looked up to the aloof but kind Sephiroth and was devastated when his hero went nuts and killed his mother and burned his hometown.
The genuine fear cloud has at 9:04 speaks volumes about how powerful sephiroth is. Throughout the entire game cloud fights numerous enemies and is completely calm and not bothered at all. But, the mere sight of sephiroth in this scene terrifies him and locks him up in place. Amazing details from the game.
Honestly how Sephiroth was built up in the OG game back in the day, Cloud's reaction is a lot more to how first time younger kids reactions was to him when the OG game was first released. I remember that first time seeing Sephiroth kill fatty from Shinra and the damage left behind, and seeing the giant ass snake that Sephiroth impaled on a massive spike made you really fear for your safety and made him out to be a huge bad ass.
It just really amazes me how much Sephiroth effects cloud and gets under his skin and hence into his heart.( 5:49) The fact that cloud holds his his whole Buster sword of protection in front of him, and Sephiroth doesn't even have his drawn. All he does is walk towards cloud that its enough to scare cloud off, lose his bearings, and just fall beneath him. And in 9:46 where cloud whimpers upon just seeing Sephiroth and starts to back away. Just speaks wonders to me on their dynamic.
Art Speaks Considering that this is the man who took away almost everything he ever cared about, I'd say Cloud's fear is more than justified here. 1) He destroyed his town 2) Killed his Mother 3) Nearly took the life of the girl he fell in love with. 4) Brutally injured him and his fellow comrade in arms. Sephiroth is Cloud's worst nightmare that has come back to life essentially.
It was just a mirage. Cloud killed the actual Sephiroth and now he and his Jenova cells are part of the planet's energy. He is able to control the other Jenova cells that were implanted into Cloud and the Sephiroth clones.
@@K4kaylee Time travel theories aside, every appearance of Sephiroth after Nibelheim is a clone or an image in Cloud's mind. He _died_ in Nibelheim, and he only interacts with the world by possessing Jenova puppets and Shinra experiments infected with her cells. FF7R Sephiroth is suspiciously prescient, but Cloud still killed him at least once, making him a clone.
23:45 Jesus can we talk about how scary sephiroth looks here? That smile he gave cloud along with those menacing eyes is genuinely terrifying! Pure psycho
Shivii Uchiha It’s always the charismatic villains I keep falling for. I’ll fully embrace him. Also... why hasn’t anyone mentioned Sephy’s lips in the remake?? They look so luscious. 😍
