My first ever video essay! Final Fantasy 7 and Cloud Strife have captured our imagination for 20 plus years, and after beating 2024's #FinalFantasy7Rebirth I wanted to spend time reflecting on parts of the story that mean a lot to me.

I want to specify that I don’t think Aerith’s destiny was to die saving the planet, more so to just save the planet (as Tifa suggests)…kinda sounds like I was saying her calling was what we are given, and so I wanted clarify! That wouldn’t give her the proper agency for such a cool character

I just recently finished Rebirth, and with my RU-vid recommended flooded with Part 3 theory crafting or "OP build breaks game" videos, this more personalized style is SO refreshing. This was a great watch!

@@MikePed35 Oh so have I haha. HP Absorb plus Enemy Skill? Thank you youtube! I find it so difficult to put my thoughts about this game into cohesive sentences. I can say that perhaps I'm the most intrigued by how they are handling Cloud's mental situation, as it feels like they are really digging in and building up to his potential 'break' on a grander scale. It leads me to believe that in Part 3, Cloud is gonna be REAL messed up, and I'm excited to see how far gone he gets before his realization; like how dark is the story gonna go? I'm also really liking how Sephiroth has this omniscient quality and feels even more devious and puppet-mastery than before. He feels MUCH more sinister and threatening to me because of the potential knowledge he has, that we the player (and Cloud) do not. He has always had that air to him but it seems to be on a larger scale in the Remake/Rebirth. Cloud's "Why is he laughing?" line is a perfect example.

@@niccobambino those are both really good points-Cloud’s behavior in the ending scene is so wild to me, and with voice acting we get to see more nuanced readings of the party’s confusion and distrust of said behavior. And yes, Sephiroth feels more aware…maybe they’ll still wave it away as "all Jenova's doing," but now he feels more specifically villainous and present
