I played the original and didn't figure this out until I played the remastered version and ACCIDENTALLY left one in my command slots. I thought they were used only in multiplayer to revive players if you didn't have life materia.
I recall getting this game even though I was never into Final Fantasy as many of my high school classmates had it and I wanted to give it a try. It had its perks, but was quite difficult, I never completed it, and grew out of FF.
