obviously it was the first time you see the big whale emerge from the sea.....i still remember exactly how i felt over 20 years ago.....almost cried. to this day i still know the mysidian legend by heart.
Dark Cecil Personal responsibility and being accountable for your own actions Kaine People well believe fools Tella how not to react Rydia Be a survivor not a victim Rose Give out your all to the one you love Edward Face your fear Yang Be hero Twins Work with others P Cecil Redemption is for ever not a destination Cid Learn a trade and keep learning Broken Edward You van always contribute Older Rydia Forgiveness Yang Give your all to the right cause Edge Emotions do nt rule you cognitive thought dose Fusoyu Aliens should help out more often
When I discovered you could upgrade armor and weapons. Seriously I made it to Mt. Ordeals with the starting weapons and armor on my party and only realized something when up when Paladin Cecil sucked so much because he had no armor or shield. It's was my first RPG and I was a kid, so give me a break! I think that may have also been part of the reason I got so good at RPGs. Grinding out levels was naturally to me at that time and man where some of my characters OP after they got proper equipment. Serious answer though it probably when Cecil became a Paladin and the Giant of Babel scene where everyone on earth comes together.
final battle.......party dead and cecil at 1 hp while fighting the final boss......and all your friends that can't be with you and even those who fell along the way pray for you and give you their strength so that you can finish your journey, and win the day, and overcome hate. I know not everyone liked golbez being used by zeromus, however, i kinda liked the idea of fighting and overcoming the source behind the evil, as in the real world, redemtion is always possible and it's not so much that people are evil, just easily led astray from the truth and love favorite game honestly
My favorite part of this game (and any game for that matter) is when you’re confronting the giant of babel and everybody shows up. It really highlights Cecil’s redemption and seeing the gang back made me so happy.
Xygor Gaming, you doing this not only satisfies my childhood of the game, but it also brings together sooo many people who has loved this game as much as I have, Hello my fellow FF4ians!!
@@Xygor I have. I even recently went on an ebay adventure to reclaim my beloved lost snes cartridge with an original manual. Had to get a repo box but managed to harness it in a case for show. I'm re-enjoying the latest release on Steam, the pixel art is great. Can't tell ya how many time's I've replayed this game lol!
Rydia has been one of my favorite video game characters of all time. I play this game every year! The moment she comes in to save you from Golbez is amazing!
@@Xygor ah. I only played the after years series on the psp. Didn't finish it though. Got pissed off cos I think I over wrote the save game or something and had to replay 2 chapters again
@@waynez78 not as bad as ff V on steam not useing cloud saves so when you fresh reinstall your system you loose all your progress and have to start again T.T i was halfway through!
waynez78 this FF easily had the catchiest music, I haven’t played ff4 in years either, I’ve just recently been playing FF6, and when I try to get the battle theme for that game going in my head, I always start humming the FF4 battle theme lol
How have you only got 23.5K subs? This content is amazing. You deserve so more many subs. Keep content like this up and you will hit that 100K mark in no time.
Great videos. I have to go back and complete this game. I played it about 7 years ago. Got to the final Boss and died because I was in a hurry to beat it.
As a 17-year old who went on a road trip to and from Montana and Pennsylvania, the Game Boy Advance release of the game was a treasure, especially when my family was constantly annoying me and making travel difficult to endure. I had only ever finished Final Fantasy on my tablet at the time (I would later find the game also on Game Boy Advance) and wished to delve further into the mystique of the world. I watched as the dark knight Drykon (I believe being able to rename the characters helps you feel immersed should you wish to do so) travel with Lekard, and experience hardships unbeknownst to humankind at the time, rescue Veruen, and save the world as much as he could from Golbez, becoming a Paladin in his quest, and gaining Cid's aid in his mission. Finally, Baigan was defeated, the airship was found, the underworld was fought for, the Zot Tower being stormed, and eventually, the Moon itself was set upon by the team. Drykon and his companions are still exploring the moon to this day. It's been three years now and I've only been more and more reluctant to let the adventure end. Someday I will, but for now, I'll enjoy having had one of my favorite RPG experiences in my life. During such hard times as this...maybe it's time to start Final Fantasy VI...but first, I must take on the evils awaiting on the Moon.
My dude you are now my favorite you tuber! And that was held by filthy frank for years. I can’t stop watching this and hearing the music and the old bosses has me pulling out my old nes and snes to re start up a couple days of playing. Thank you I cannot wait till the next video!
Well, FF4 definitely meets and exceeds the quota that requires 50% or more of the enemies to have a true form. Behold! Also, those Calcabrina dolls were much scarier than Zemus was when I played this as a kid. Those dolls need gasoline and then fire.
Your narration is on point, my man. A great rundown of a great game. The only thing I may have done different would have been to use the DS Remake or iOS/ Android remaster of it. Then you could have shown the most modern character models and used some of the fully voiced cutscenes to help tell the story. That's a creative decision, of course, the video is solid anyway. Nice job, thanks for sharing!
I haven’t played any final fantasy game but this is amazing i watched 1,2 and this. The question is why is there no Final Fantasy III? Sorry for being new
The Fiend of Wind on the SNES version was named Valvalis, and Cagnazzo was Kainazzo. The Fiend of Earth was Milan, then changes to Milan Z. Why the name changes?
Everyone always talks about how good the plot, characters, combat, etc in these games are. But I never hear anyone talk about the important life lessons that this exceptional series includes. Take FFIV for example. Through talking to his wife, and receiving the necessary first aid equipment from her, we learn how blunt force trauma to the head is the most effective treatment for someone in a coma due to life threatening injuries.
Does it cover extra story such as Cave of trails and Lunar Ruins? Or extra little scenes of 3D version ? Honestly to me ones you combine 2D and 3D Story of FF4 is what makes it amazing.
The 3d of this game is one of my fav games but never tried any iteration of the 2d (I know, I'm sure some purists will be mad at me). Maybe I should one day...
Damn this is one of the best FF's. I like this one more than VI but I guess that's because it was my first rpg I ever played way back in 91/92 . Long live FF4. Wish we could get a proper remake like VII
My favourites rank of oldschool 2D Final Fantasy: 1. Final Fantasy VI 2. Final Fantasy IV 3. Final Fantasy V (very close to IV - it was hard to decide) 4. Final Fantasy II 5. Final Fantasy III 6. Final Fantasy I
@@Xygor It's weird to rank because it's more like separate class than just stating something is lower on the list. I'd say that Final Fantasy VI is in its own class, then you have cluster with Final Fantasy IV, V and maybe II with properly fleshed out and enjoyable storytelling and the last cluster is Final Fantasy I and III which are still enjoyable to play, but it lacks any personalized storytelling and is more like compilation of general fantasy concepts and archetypes. I still enjoyed them for this general atmosphere of fantasy world, and Final Fantasy III had actually interesting world design, but lacked personality.
Devav Asura: Asura who have become Devas or Divine. असुर Æsir. A story about duality, change and forgiveness. Cecil is a heavy Dark Knight and his companion is the more agile, lighter Dragon Knight Kain who leaps in the air like Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures. It also brings back the theme of Elemental Fiends. Bad Earth is an unclean fetid corpse who uses old zombies to bury people alive. Bad Water is an imposter turtle, lords over liquid which he holds in any framed wall or shell. Bad Wind is a blustering delirious sex tornado which can take all energy, thought and resources. Bad Fire pretends to be an upstanding nobleman but just wants to flame you into endless confusion (Babil) in the pursuit of nobility. Bad Moon is Zero Hate, instead of land of love it is now a moon of ancient old guard hate which wants to keep your score at Zero. Btw, people with glasses are wizard, engineer subjob instantly hehe.
I'd like to know, after watching your FF 2 video, how were there any Dragoons or Wyverns left for Kain to become a dragoon? His father died; there was one wyvern left - which means no repopulation of the species once it passes regardless, so it was always doomed - and the "last" dragoon bit it in process of saving the world in FF 2. BEFORE he could fulfill that promise to Kain to teach him to be a dragoon, I might add. So is it self taught? Did he super saiyan it up, until he beat the crap out of enough monsters to take on an evil dragon and become the Immortal Iron Fist? o. O
FFIV also has versions on the SNES, Gameboy Advance, DS, Steam, etc. I just preferred this one because I think it's my preferred graphical representation and translation.
@@Xygor Considering how many times this same question has been asked, I'm curious as to why you haven't added a 'disclaimer' in the description about this being the PSP version. Also, it's so surreal, it's like a Wreck-it Ralph version of the game, where the sprites are inexplicably too large and detailed to give the feeling of nostalgia without taking any of the limitations into account. Don't get me wrong, it's nice... I just wish the spells used the same level of pixel work instead of just being cheesy photoshop effects, it's a real immersion breaker.
This was not only my first Final Fantasy, but literally my first video game. My parents got my sister and I a Super Nintendo for Christmas back in the day, that came with Super Mario World. But they wanted to get another game that seemed "cool" and would appeal to me, and just saw box art with a rad-looking sword on it. Good call, mom and dad. Ah man, the feels.
My brother got one for his birthday with super mario world, and super mario paint - that was dope af. FF2 was just sitting in the SNES the morning of my birthday from my parents. 🥰 first final fantasy as well, I was too young to understand the one on NES. When Dad, brother and sister all want to play and it’s the first play through for everyone…🤣
FFII on super nintendo waa one of my firsts. Technically, my first game is ocarina of time, but only because the super nintendo was technically my uncle's not mine. Definitely have fond memories of learning how to play jrpg's with him. Still say "Her-b" when I play Breath of Fire.
I learned to read playing this by bugging my Mom and Grandma to tell me what certain words or sentences meant and then gradually piecing it together myself from there.
I agree. It was mind blowing and engaging how advanced it was at the time. I love 6 too, but this game is more balanced to me. Better bad guys, and more compelling story.
@@Xygor I haven't played it lately, but I have gone through different versions multiple times, started with the SNES, GBA remaster, and DS remake. FF4 is my favorite, I love the characters, the story, the music, it's all wonderful but 6 is probably the best FF
FF4 is where I got my start into the FF series back in the day :) and many years later FF4 TAY (The After Years) was released to continue this Great story. My mind was Blown when I found out there was FF4 - part 2 (FF4 The After Years) is a Must play for all fans of FF4 :)
Man... great video, crushed my feels hard as fuck man. When Kain took his helmet off at the end I was so enthralled man, it was such a big deal and I had been imagining what he looked like while watching my big brother play, and throughout my play through. So when it finally happened it was this unforgettable moment, and I remember thinking how insane the graphics were since they showed his hair moving! While FF6 is my all time favorite game I think, this game was so amazing. I had just finished the first final fantasy a few months before we got a SNES for Xmas and got this game shortly after. Some of the songs still give me a serious emotional response some 27 years later... Hope at least a few of you got this great feeling of reliving some of these memories while watching this video. Life was so simple back then, and I had some true joy created by this game.
Im playing the original on the SNES and man is the story amazing and thus is coming from someone who never liked RPGs but FF4 has made me change my view on RPGs when I finish FF4 I'm gonna go play some other ones
this was one of the best FF stories in my opinion. Having not had the chance to play it, thank you very much for sharing its story here. I thoroughly enjoyed it

One of my favorites of all time, it's been so long since I played it. Over 18 years. I'm glad that you're doing this, in sense it makes you a Griot but with videos included. That's very important job. Thank your for hard work, I must imagine it takes time. So at your pace and keep being amazing. Greeting from Puerto Rico.
Thank you for your videos! I'm sure I fit in with a lot of people that played a good portion of the older FF's but never finished them so these are perfect for people like me that want to see the whole story in one go instead of simply reading a wiki.
Please do a complete story for III and V , I absolutely love these videos I watch them all the time! I hope you end up doing more of the final fantasy’s especially 3 and 5 !
The great debate of the early 90’s for me and my best friend, which FF is better? 2 or 3 (as we knew them at the time) my contention was for 3 based on it’s characterization but I could never convince him. Then Chrono Trigger came and and we both agreed it was the best video game ever made
@@Xygor Bro, I played it at least 4 times back when it was FF 2 and I beat it again when it was on PSX and then I even played through half the PSP version around 2018. It's literally the game that showed me that pixel characters don't have a limitation to emotional content. Of course, it grew from there...but us old school types will never, ever forget these days. I'm going back and checking out the Super Fami SMT games. When I have the time! I'm so old my friend. I put so much time in my mental life that I'm sort of struggling to catch up. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you all have been doing to keep these absolutely staggering experiences alive and showing them to the new gen...and it's absolutely worth my time to do so. It's just that I'm far from being in the place to game like I used to. That being said, I'm definitely hyped for FF. XVI and I have high hopes for it!
sooooo......might want to put a dash in the title Final Fantasy 4 - Complete story explained, since you're playing the ff4 complete version (that contains the after years) but are only covering the base game of ff4......I was honestly expecting more :D
@@Xygor it wasn’t long ago I was playing it but I stick with the psp version which I think is the best version. I think my favorite part of the game is when you are fighting Golbez in the Dwarven city and you are about to die and suddenly a mist dragon destroys Golbez’s monster and just for fun I react the same way the party does going who did that? Then Rydia steps out and you know Golbez is going down now!
I always do the cave of summoned monsters and sylph cave before sealed cave. I also get fusoya before going to get bahamut. Never played this new version you can get yang for final level!?
This is my favorite of all the final Fantasy saga. Never realized how it's storyline is just a bad shounen anime. When you hear it as a story like this. Just wow.
