The final boss of the game. Has the best music in the game in my opinion, though that has a tendency to change over time. Well, it's my favorite as of the time of me uploading it anyway.
Fun Fact: The composer Ryuji Sasai was in a rock band starting at 15 years old and another band called Novela before moving on to Anime/Game music...which explains how rocking his music sounds, especially in his battle themes.
Fun fact: Cure does so much damage to the final boss that it overflows and heals him. It's supposed to hurt him. The fun fact here is that he still dies to it if you use benjamin, because it overflows TWICE
Think you had it backwards: it heals enough on him as Ben to overflow into damage territory but with Phoebe it overflows twice, getting back into healing territory again. I originally thought it was an easter egg.
Thats the classical Rule about "Undeads" from the very first Pen & Paper Game Dungeons & Dragons. A lot of Rules are taken for the Mystic Quest Series.
@omensoffate I'm black, and I love this song, let alone this soundtrack!! How dare you?? Maybe you should look into how many rappers sample off of themes from video games, and make it into their own music! Wiz Khalifa's 'Never Been' would be a good song to look up. The score in the background is Schala's Theme from Chrono Trigger.
Imagine living life as a Mystic Ouest until some guy stabs you. Well I suppose I shouldn't have existed hovering over the peak of a mountain top until some guy could stab me in the O so it would look like a Q.
Used to play this when I was a child, 32 now. Listening to this again now just gave me goosebumps and tears in my eyes. This song is the most epic ever, the build up and the whole energy in it is just perfect.
I don't know you, but I'm right there with you. 31, would watch my brothers play this game as a kid all the time. The music is by far the thing that stuck with me most. On a completely different level. They truly don't make music like it anymore.
@@ProgectG not to rile you up but uh, they still make good soundtracks nowadays. take off the rose-tinted glasses for a moment, dig a little and you'll find some gems
@@kyokonull sure, there are excellent songs these days, but I stand by what I said. Just because they don't make songs like this one anymore, doesn't mean there are no good songs, just that since audio technology has advanced, they literally stop making songs like these for games.
Being the huge nerd that I am, I would always try to time it so that Dark King's Dialogue would end at 00:13, so the screen flash from the battle starting would sync with the music kicking up.
I couldn't put into words exactly why, but this is the first comment I've read that has made me literally laugh out loud in *years*. Bless you, my friend.
The memories of being a kid and rocking out to the battle music. My first ever final fantasy game, I remember playing this on a monochrome tube TV in my basement LOL holy shit I'm old.
its not a fantastic rpg, but its definitely a great game to introduce someone to RPG's if they have never played one. I still love this game, even if it made little to no sense.
It definitely ranks up there; there are very few boss battle themes that really convey that "The fate of the world rides on this battle" feeling, and this is certainly one of them.
wayne62682 Good point. One theme off the top of my head that has the "everything is at stake" vibe is "Battle with the four fiends" from FF4. At least in my personal view.
Believe it or not there was a remake made on RPG Maker and it was called mystic quest remastered, it was a nice remake but sadly it got shunned because of the creator.
@@LeoHightower didnt he get caught stealing money from his kickstarter? Damn shame because the OST deserved a remaster alone. Thanks Jonnyatma and Daniel Tidwell we have that.
@@KS-xf2jf He forged a contract and lied about Square and him "Being OK about it". And even then, one of the releases, had a bug that prevented you from entering the final dungeon and broke the game...
Battle starts Dark King caste Flare Caste cure Dark king changes form Caste cure Dark king changes form Caste cure Dark King dedzzzz.......... Game Ends Best childhood RPG IMO
+zok310 Considering it's from a bug, at a time prior to the internet, you had no way of knowing this. I beat the Dark King the old-fashionned way, back in the day.
Kaeli, Tristam, Reuben and Phoebe are still names the I use most of my rpg gameplay to this day, this game was one of my first rpg after Dragon warrior, wich I wasn't really good at back then due to the lack of english comprehension.
I remember, as a kid, I had no idea how to pronounce Phoebe. : D Just one of those things you roll with as a kid. "Well, that's a strange video game name." Foe-uh-Beh?
Behemoth: "I can slay the hero with pure luck two blows, what did you do?" Dark King: " I went through four transformations & got beaten by a white magic spell..." *: (*
I played this when I was like 7. I honestly remember this game as amazing and challenging. xD Never learned the cute trick either. Flare'd the final boss like crazy.
This is saying a lot, but this has got to be one of my favorite tracks from the entire SNES era of RPGs. I've never even beaten this game (mostly because I haven't picked the game up in about six years), but God, I love this song so much.
I was crushed (for some odd reason) after finding out that Cure didn't do damage because healing damages evil, but because the main character's heal just does enough to overload the counter and make it go negative.
Yeah, I _COULD_ cast Cure and totally wreck the final boss... but then I wouldn't get to hear Flare's badass midi file. That shit is like crack to me. Like FF4's Virus sound.
Love it. The Dark King literally makes fun of RPG prophecies, saying he just made them up himself. And if Phoebe wasn't there to bail your ass out, The Dark King would've had you. One of the best bosses of all time.
An epic theme of battle for a totes generic cliche "bad guy!" (No disrespect intended, I loved Mystic Quest if for no other reason than the fact that JRPG's were hard to come by back in the 90s. So I appreciated all of them!)
this was one of the first games i played and beat as a child. to this day, i go back and play through it once every one or two years. i loved the characters, the simplicity of the story, and of course the bad ass music. i agree that this game gets too much hate, and that it is exactly what it is supposed to be.
Kind of horrible how this game gets so much flak from people nowadays as it was intended for beginner game players like myself and not true hardcore final fantasy fans. I'd say the game did a good job at what it set out to do and it doesn't deserve this much hate.
I was listening to this great theme as I confronted my very first video game final boss... This is very, very nostalgic and I think of it as my very first milestone in gaming
I got to know the song by that hack. The arrangement was not very good though. The original is way better, and I also love Parabeetle X’s Touhou remix of this song.
Fucking epic as fucking fuck. Love all those views, proving I'm not the only one who remembers this epicness. Proving you don't need modern production equipment to kick ass in the studio.
This theme reminds me of the time my best friend and I went into a gamestore that sold imports and saw some people fighting Dark King and using Cure on him and it worked(he must've been an undead) so I told my best friend I wanted this game just to try that.
Seems almost perfect for a 4 man band to me(guitar, bass, drums, synth). The guitar would have to play one of the synth lines during the refrain(which is okay because the guitar and bass are unison for that section anyway), and the synth player would have to be an actual keyboardist instead of someone that just plays power chords like a lot of them tend to be. Other than that, all you'd need is a double bass drum kit. That's just for this song though; I haven't looked at the others that closely.
Man, I swear this was the very first Final Fantasy game I ever played. As much as it sucks when I look back on it now, I freaking loved this game and it's what got me hooked on the rest of the series. And not to sound like everyone else, but the music in this game kicked some serious ass!
I'm hopeful there will be DLC for every game in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call. If that's the case, I really hope this theme or Doom Castle makes it in. It would also be really nice to see Phoebe in Curtain Call as well.
This game's so underrated and hated :( True, it's not the deepest and for a good reason : it's meant for kids to get into RPGs, but I love it and the music is some of the best on the SNES
