Here is my list for the Top 10 Hardest Battles in Final Fantasy Tactics for first time players. Support the channel here or become a channel member. / j7jase streamlabs.com... #FinalFantasyTactics #FinalFantasy
I recently finished a playthrough of FFT after more than 10 years. Belias is so memorable that I forgot about Elmdore in Riovannes. I had several countermeasures for Belias but I had to retry a few times for Elmdore because Rafa cannot wait to join her brother!
Yeah Wiegraf was more memorable for sure I say lol. But man, I like Rapha but sure hate Marach lol. Both are tough fights, debatable on what people think is harder but I still say they both should be at the top for sure lol
Your #10 was perfect. It's what came right to mind and in the place that I would have put it. Your #1 was perfect as well because that girl's AI can just be derpy and get your a Game Over without much of anything that you could do.
Thanks so much. This was a hard list to order and rank lol but I feel like those fights are easily among the hardest for first timers I feel. And yeah that AI lol. The battle is just set up to be against you
Some easy counters for some of these without destroying the fun challenge: 10. Unlocked Monk and send him straight away after the Archer on the roof. Fight fire with fire get your own Black Mage against the enemy Black Mages 9. Diamond Armlets these will prevent the Time Mages from slowing you. Still need to watch out for Stop and Hasted enemies though 8. Rubber Shoes for your party outside the gate. The Knights and Archers all have Lightning elemental weapons 6. Defense Ring. These will block his main status move, but you still need to deal with his Bio spells For both Wiegraf fights, Chameleon Robe. But the Belias fight, good luck 😂 And #1...... pray
Agree with all maps. I would also like to nominate Dorter Trade City ch2 after Alicia, Lavian and Rad joins, this fight introduced me to a little skill called steal heart that I raged at as a kid. Also that fight where you first encounter Mustadio (forgot the map name) and you have to save him. Taught me a lot about speed, move and jump panels cause goddamn why are my units so slow lol.
I had that introduced me in Chapter 1 in the Mlieuda fight lol. Oh man I had no idea what to do! And yeah if you decide to save him oh man. I had Mustadio in a playthrough of mine just walk up to the Knights oh geez
Yeaaah those were tough! I think new players tend to kind of ignore movement because they don’t realize the value but for me it’s absolutely one of the most important stats in the game.
My least favorite thing about the Execution Site is just how long it takes. You have to play cautiously or you'll be overrun. You're outnumbered, and your opponents are beefy. The time mages casting slow really don't help. Gafgarion's not much of a threat if you rush him. He'll puss out quickly. It's the mopping up that takes forever.
Number 10 was one of the first that popped in my head. I remember one of my last playthroughs of the game, way back, this battle giving me some trouble, when normally it never did.
Riovanes Castle is the hardest set of battles in the game for first time players. There's a rumor story in chapter 4 called "The Horror At Riovanes Castle". The real horror was having to restart the game because you physically can't beat those two battles.😂
My only real argument is 1 and 2, which isn't that weird based on other comments. The way I see it is, in a vacuum maybe you could argue the fight on the roof could be harder but, the fact it's directly after the other fight, you're already so overprepared (since you, well beat it) I'd say the roof fight is generally easier. You can get soft locked a lot easier on weigraf but, you can RNG your way into winning on the roof. If she runs, you can probably win, if she dive bombs, ok sure you lose. I see the arguement for it but, you can definitely win the roof fight with a much weaker team than against weigraf.
That's fine. But preparing for both of those fights is totally different to me. From party setups and so on and equipment. But I think they both should definitely be on anyone's top hardest
Excellent video as always from the best FFT RU-vidr ❤ Velius for me still is one of the hardest Boss fights of RPG games ever. I remember being locked there and trying a myriad of strategies to defeat Wiegraf 1v1 just to discover him after the fight XD I always did multiple saves in games I played out of caution, but this was the first time ever in my gaming life that I actually needed to deploy one: an older save outside (and many stages before) Riovanes Castle, which then I grinded levels enough to burst Elmdor on the rooftop before Rafa AI did something risky. Indeed, I discovered by myself and used a teleporting ninja with movements boosting items to close the gap to double strike the Demons in the Velius fight, so I didn't even saw the rooftop as difficult. Funnily enough, in none of my playthroughs I discovered what Calculators were for, I just thought of them being the most cheesiest and useless units in the game. I just discovered what they did not long ago, here on your channel XD
Thanks so much for the kind words my g. Yeah he could have definitely been number 1 there are a lot of variables and arguments for sure so ranking was tough for a video myself. Nice catch on that! We should always have the option to grind and etc. I say. But nonetheless, awesome strategy and story! Glad you got through it lol. And yeah the thing with Calculators that so many people are wrong about. At least on RU-vid (besides me and my friend Tactics Live) they actually aren't all that strong at least in their base job. Its their abilities on other things that are insane. But glad you learned something new!
I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time! Excellent ranking, Jase! Most of these battles I expected to be on your list. I’m a bit surprised you didn’t put Velius at number 1, but it’s hard to argue with Elmdor’s rooftop fight. One battle I think is also difficult is at the end of the game in Chapter 4. The battle with Balk and his Hydras can catch some players off guard. Balk has a good amount of distance and can shoot across the map. I also thought Zalbag could be dangerous with his bloodsuck ability and the Ultima demons. Anyway great video as always!🎉😊
I don't think I ever teased this one lol but thank you! That fight could very well be #1. It was a hard toss up for me. And yeah totally that one could get an honorable mention. Him and the Hydras can be frustrating. The damage and of course him arm and leg shotting people too. Zalbaag as well, that defense up, blood suck and of course those demons scale with you. All great mentions
I was young and was a "race player" in ff games and was notorious for not saving. My skup randoms and rush the story often got me soft-locked, but this was my first tactical game with perma-death and I remember getting all the way to Rat Cellar and losing like three of my characters and then wondering after the battle where they were; or spending a whole Saturday afternoon grinding before the gallows fight only to make a mistake, let Agrias crystallize and then realizing I hadn't saved all day. Tough growing up before autosaves
Your top 2 are spot on! Lost count of how many job classes I have tried against Wiegraf before settling on Dragoon with Monk as secondary skills. That 2-panel reach with the lance was a godsend, so Wiegraf can't counter. That reach was also handy with poking Elmdor just enough to end the match (though I always wanted to be able to steal the equipment of the Assassins). Horrific back then but certainly fun to remember now.
Great video! I am surprised to see Wiegraf 2 in Orbonne so high up. In the very first move he exposes himself to your party. Sure, he hits like a truck, but I usually can gang up against him after and finish him before his team arrives. I used to have a lot more trouble dealing with Izlude just before this one.
Thanks and it depends. How you look at and argue it. Isilud you don't need to KO completely but Wiegraf you need to. Both are tough in their own ways. This was just my video so it's up to the player on what they consider the hardest. Although I also wanted to include multiplayer battles most have never experienced
Definitely Wiegraf at the Windmill. I never had issues with Dorter really, but the first time facing him, I ended up seeing a Game Over. Ziekden was another one as I wasn't expecting the -ra level spells yet. It was a rough way to end Chapter 1, but it definitely was a welcome ramp-up in difficulty. It also trains players that sometimes, focusing the boss is the better strategy. In terms of sheer unrelenting difficulty, Wiegraf Riovaines definitely takes the cake.
That is another hard battle as well. Since Crush Punch/Northswain's Strike has that chance to KO and he hits hard. But he doesn't need to be KO'D completely. So there are a lot of other variables and or arguments. Depends on how you look at it
Many Japanese players also says Dorter, Golgollarda, Finnath, Ziekden are hard points. As you say, the consecutive battles against Wiegraf and Belias are traumatic for most Japanese players.
It's a pity that the secret boss Ediblis didn't get here without leveling up, he's also a pretty tough opponent. You can also remember the 2nd battle against Algus/Argas in the Limberia castle. I also think it will be an undeniably tough battle if you haven't leveled up. Although even if you have leveled up, the first battle is against Wiegraf. He has a static sword in his arsenal that can add a chance to the stop status, and he also has a splint punch that adds a chance to the death sentense status, which means that after 3 turns a squad member dies. But the most unpleasant thing is the crush punch that can instantly kill one of the squad.
At low levels he can be hard one. All good mentions, the Argath one can be deceptively hard if his Critical Recover HP triggers it can be a painful one not to mention he has Defense Boost too lol. Great points as well for the first time vs Wiegraf too. I remember that Crush Punch getting me a few times
@@J7Jase I remember he killed my chemist. I even taught all 4 squires including Ramza to Job Monk since he has Chakara and Revive, Stigma magic (restoration and resurrection) and also Job Thief, his equipment theft skill, so that at an early stage he can get hold of the gear that will appear later. This useful feature allows you to get hold of the unique bloody sword of Gafgarion in Chapter 2.
I spent a lot of time at the Gallows fight trying to steal Gaff's blood sword and resetting whenever my Thief was KO'ed. I think it had a long opening cut scene too lol
The most difficult battle in FFT is that one against Velius in Riovannes Castle. Even if you come there with well prepared team (all around level 40, with summoner with math skill, lancers/knights with all range jump, samurai/ninja, monk with shotgun, etc.) you still struggle to win. Velius casts all the time powerful Clops that just kill your team members while other ones cannot revive death ones when they are under Archaic Demons long range attacks (Giga flare and Dark Holy). The second hardest battle is against Elidibs in Deep Dungeon, especially when you want to teach your summoner Zodiac. Elidibs supported by Apandas makes a lot of HP damage to your allies, you have to be protected from turning into frogs. Beside Zodiac, Midgar Sworm is another powerful attack from this secret boss... The third one is Nelveska Temple against Worker 7 if you try to collect treasures... You need to have Worker 8 standing under columns for your thief to allow him jump on column and meanwhile mad Worker 7 keeps attacking losing his own energy so you need to keep giving him potions and fight against strong supporting monsters... The fourth one is Finath River - because chocobbos there have the same level as your team. Especially red ones with Meteor attack do a lot of damage to your guys. Beside that walking on the map is limited due to water depths.
Out of everything in the list, I'd definitely have to put the Wiegraf & Elmdor fights right at the top in terms of the first time through. I've definitely had to go back and replay an older save to get past those for the first time. I did Brave Story for the first time on the TLW patch for the original game a couple of months ago, took way longer than I expected. I hadn't looked into what I was getting into, I was just steamrolling most of it. The guarded temple was pretty tough as well. Oddly I don't recall having much of an issue with the multi Lucavi battle.
The thing is with the TLW there is a sprite limit. So sadly. you aren't facing all the enemies at once. The PSP multiplayer battles are harder since you can't use math skill and you will face all the enemies at one time.
@@J7Jase That's pretty much why I specified I did it in that version. From what I see though, it's pretty damn accurate even if it has engine limitations. I didn't use any math skill on those battles personally... just modded characters. Potato potato.
Probably, in the top 10 difficult battles we can add saving Princess Ovelia because not everyone is leveling up and knows that all the things need to be removed from Gafgarion to make it easier in this story battle. And there is also the goal of saving Princess Ovelia, which already complicates the battle despite the fact that we have as many as 2 active guests on our side and one passive guest who needs to be protected. In principle, I agree with the top. I will only add that in the top of difficult battles, the 3rd battle with Vigraf is quite difficult and takes, it seems, either 3rd or 1st place among difficult battles.
From my experience I thought that battle wasn't that hard because Delita can carry it really hard in my opinion especially with Hallowed Bolt/Lightning Stab. But maybe I just got lucky and yeah the equipment trick can catch people off guard. Yeah Wiegraf/Belias has gotta be on anyone's top I feel
@@J7Jase Guests randomly learn skills of their profession. Depends mainly on the level of the job. Delita in the plot with saving the princess, he either learns Lightning Stab or learns Splint Punch and Crush Punch. This is all because he immediately has a level of his job 6 and in PlayStation One, level 6 is 1150, in the PlayStation Portable version, level 6 job is 1600, which means in PlayStation Portable Delita can learn Lightning Stab and either optionally Splint Punch and Crush Punch or nothing else. But it all depends on randomness, like luck. By the way, I also remember a myth about this moment that if in Chapter 1 Delita subtract Accumulate and either Dash or Throw a Stone, then when he becomes a Holy Knight, he will supposedly learn either Splint Punch or Crush Punch. This myth was refuted after 2 or 3 playthroughs. And it was clear that it was random.
I would add Bulk and the hydras to my list. If you never encountered hydra before, you usually G.O. this battle. Since they're triple ability requires perfect level plain for spread, combined with the massive uneven map, allows for frequent otk on each character. Just my opinion, you need to be really prepared for this battle. Sure, Orlandu and Calculate override this aspect, but what battle doesn't have Calulator override.
That is a very good mention as well. And his arm and leg shot too can be annoying. I didn't include Chapter 4 all that much because of Orlandeau. On the topic of Calculators though, it's their abilities that are strong on other things. Not the class itself, their stats while in the job are just horrible and good luck casting anything with their speed
Rank 10 it's not controversial at all! I got Game Over on my first playthrough and I know some players that quit FF because of that fight as well, because without training we would be using a team full of Squires! My first one pick would be Wiegraf, I never had a problem in the fight against the Assassin's and I don't understand job stat levels until this day.
Yeah some people think it's the hardest ever. I mean for sure it's up there definitely or should be on any list for sure. A lot of variables. Wiegraf at Riovanes should always be near top I say lol
Oh man if you don't know to pay attention to shops and gain new jobs it can mess you up pretty good. Like the bracer +3 att gained after the forest fight after yardow. You have to go back to the shop to get it and it wasn't unlocked anytime before the fight. It makes a big impact for your damage.
I just started play the original version for ps1 on retro arch and my first time my entire team was made up out of all 70 brave and 70 faith characters. What a treat. My team is stupid strong. Lol.
I think I agree with you, indeed these are also the most memorable battles in the game!!! Wait... And what about the battle with Elmdor when you can steal the Genji set?
Thank you and well that battle can be hard. But I feel like with Orlandeau being able to get off at least one attack and just having in your party with Excalibur. The difficulty of things drastically go down I feel
Dortor I think is harder, higher on the list. It is the first fight where you are easily wiped out quickly if you don't know how to play well and haven't trained a little. Until you get a starred game, at least in WOTL, it's the last fight where the equipment isn't able to be buffed.
@@J7Jase Most definitely ON any hardest battles list. I agree with that 100%. In a couple of years when I finally get to making my own 10 hardest battles, it'll be in the top 3 for me.
@@J7Jase The unfortunate thing with doing videos based off of your many amazing videos is that I won't be changing the way I do thumbnails, which is still similar to how you have adapted yours, nor will I be able to have many differences. Many of your videos are amazing for how they're set up and the explanations that go along with. For instance, this particular video, there are only a couple of differences I will be doing. On another note, an idea for you to do is "Top 10 FF Characters" from all the games, and if you haven't done so already, also one for FFT and any other game you enjoy specifically.
@@J7Jase In order to do the top 10 from all FF games I've played or characters I enjoy, I will probably have to find someone willing to allow me to use part of their video (with shoutout, of course - I'm not going to plagiarize without reference and permission) to build my own. For instance, I have never played FFVI. I think Tetra is an awesome character, though. I played with her in Dissidia. I've never cared for magic over brute force. She is one of the most beautiful FF characters, which you could do another video on "hottest characters."
Fighting Izlude was kind of hard, I remember I had to re-run it a multiple times, as well as the one when I tried to save Mustabio with his first fight. Aha, there was also the desert fight VS machinist, when all your party is poisoned.
Thought it was a glitch when I ran into the monk battle. It made it worse that I had sent my generic units on bar missions, and hadn't saved recently. Made me rage quit for awhile.
@@J7Jase unfortunately it was back on PS1, not long after it was released, so no photos of it happening. Just couldn't believe they would throw in such a brutal random battle. It had to of happened to me earlier on though, since I don't think I had any "real" characters outside of Agris when it happened. It was 20 some years ago at this point, so memory is fading haha.
Yeah i am surprised it didn't get an honorable mention but, it's probably because at that point you have orlandu. Since Queklain has a similar gimmick (use X accessory to make fight easier) but, orlandu basically 1 shots them.
The noob killer at Dorter will always be my number 1 lol Sure, Wiegraf and not-Sephiroth are shit tier but back when I first play this game that slum made me realised what hopeless really is.
Lol. I actually wanted to put Gariland in this video because I had no idea we could deploy other units. So I was doing solo Ramza for a while lol oh man
My god i remember that belial fight i remember what save me was the dragoon jump skill they hit really hard if you equip them god i bring like 2 units dragoon
Mmmm i think Elmdor castle fight is harder than the rooftop fight. Teleport with a ninja just kind of trivializes the entire rooftop, but I guess a new player wouldn't exactly know that.
yeah #10 seems fair, I still remember my very first time playing it where my characters didnt even get a turn and I lost. I've never been more "WTF was that", at least vs Weigraf I got a turn.
I would swap 2&1 and I also think the castle fight versus gafgarrion should be higher. The riviones castle battle has caused many people to soft lock the game and literally have to start the game over because they saved at wrong time.
My hardest is the Elmdore fight where u have to steal the Genji equipment (in the original version of course) it's a hard fight to begin with but adding the 1 time chance to steal his gear plus back in the day I didn't know speed increased steal % made it hard and it took forever with around 10% steal success 😂
Stealing the equipment can be a challenge for sure lol. I think I took three hours due to bad RNG. I didn't include that many in Chapter 4 because of the option of deploying Orlandeau to solve your problems lol
@@J7Jase yeah for sure, Orlandeau is a wrecking ball, the 1on1 with Wiegraf is a close 2nd, my first play through I made Ramza a Summoner so obviously he destroyed me, luckily I had leveled up enough jobs so ninja was available and I didn't have to start over like so many poor souls 🙏 😂
wigaft for sure he made the game super hard ( i figured out a few starts by now but still tough) the roof battle wasn't super hard i had speedy glass cannons so that gave it some natural couters ( still had a game over or 2 but RNG reasons) also is that dragoon boss music i hear?
#1 is an absolute crapshoot. I hate that fight so much. You have _no control_ over whether you'll lose the fight before you even get a turn. Once you get a turn, it's not that bad, especially if you have a decent setup going in... but just getting to that point is what sucks. Setting the win condition on the player defending an AI-controlled NPC was a huge mistake. #8's not bad if you remember to give one of your other party members teleport or some other movement tech that can get over the wall to help Ramza. If you forget, it just drags.
Yeah it wasn't that well thought out especially after Wiegraf. That fight can be hard if you don't have a way around Gaffgarion's sword skills And your party outside is out numbered too
Hi thanks for the comment. There is a good video a friend of mine made. Which I think is clear. Hopefully it will help you out as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6SoL-i6v3bw.htmlsi=nXnM2FFocZI5hgMB If not I'll try in the future.
#1 & #2 hard?!? Just mod FFT as the definitive version: "The Lion War ReMixed" and then both battles let you effortlessly change them into the *easiest* fights in the game by DEFAULT! 😂 Why would a new generation of players in 2024 need the most memorable boss challenges to overcome with their own brains' brilliant tactics / strategy in a game called FF Tactics anyway? 🤣
I mean I didn't struggle with him that much. But if your characters have bad zodiac signs with him, low faith or you don't have many abilities learned or are fast enough, have protect rings, it could very well much be a soft lock.
😮One on one with wiegraf will be the most hardest that force people to star over again. And this fight is the assestment for the next hard battle. The battle at the rooftop is just a race who goes first you dont need to KO those three just one of em will suffice. And my second is nelveska temple when your in a treasure hunt mode that stage is a real pain in the ass.
Nelveska Temple can be a hard one too for stealing items. The monsters will scale with you but I feel like once Orlandeau joins, you always have the easier option for sure lol. But still you will be down a party member too since you need a monster to get on the two platforms in the front
@@J7Jase nelveska is hard because you have purpose not to finish the stage same like midlights deep learning the zodiark summon can be a pain aswell. But yeah wiegraf and elmdore rooftop is on top. Its just that wiegraf make me start a new game and then beat him and the rooftop battle becomes easy because my ramza is prepared and I have agrias unlike the 1v1
