Final Fantasy - The Game That Started It All | PART 1 

Fun fact: The game was called Final Fantasy because it was the company's last game and it was in a fantasy setting. They had plans to go bankrupt if this one didnt sell well. Obviously, it exploded in popularity.

Watching a Scykoh let's play is like getting a tour from a good friend who knows a lot about a great place.

To think that this almost was the last game Squaresoft made back in the day. They where shortly before bankrupcy and they thought " Lets go out with a bang and create this Final Fantasy. Luckily that game was so succesful that it saved the company and spawned many more sequels and sidestories.

I actually really like the info dump episodes. I've never played a final fantasy game so it's very helpful. I hope you have some more useless knowledge sections in this series.

FYI this is my first time EVER seeing Final Fantasy gameplay, outside of external mentions or advertising. No joke, no exaggeration. Now I'll finally learn what world I've been missing out on...

It's been AGES since I've been to this channel. I'm so happy to see that creators from my childhood are still around. Playing FF, no less!

The original Final Fantasy on the NES; hoo boi. Be ready for a whole lot of "is bugged", "does nothing", and "doesn't work in this version". Honestly, if you don't have a sweet spot for this particular version of the game, it's probably better to go with *any* of the other versions of FF1 though the PS1 version is probably the best to get the full bug free experience as, for instance, the GBA version replaces the spell system with an MP points one.

This and Chrono Trigger are my two favourite games of all time. It's almost all nostalgia, but I don't care. Just hearing that overworld music makes me smile.

I've been playing a lot of FFXIV lately and I love how you basically have a light party right there, with a WAR, WHM, RDM, MNK comp. Pretty solid

I used to play the PSP remake of this game. It was pretty fun, but I never finished it... Am looking forward to this LP

I fell in love with this game back in the 1st grade. I had to keep borrowing it from a friend but never finished it as a kid. Glad to say I just completed it 100% a few days ago. It's a great game. 🥳

This was the first ever video game that was mine(ish) - Mum got me a second hand NES for my 4th birthday and my uncle got me FF1 (he was like 12 when I was born and would pick me up from kindergarten while in highschool and is basically like the older sibling) I never/always had) - anyway it was a trap and I got yelled at for "ruining" the game when I would play his file on "my" game that he would play all the time. The music, the sprites, the play, the "why is my party dead and where the hell is my airship" yelling... all core memories. In my own playing a few years later, I developed a neurotic tendency to REQUIRE everyone level up simultaneously - so the icecave would get a few dice rolls because of the sodding cocatrices ... but this real, nostalgic, and wholesome series is the comfort meal that hugs me during random chores and multi-hour cooking (my other therapy) - and I had to get over "crud" grudgingly the same way I had to get over "frack" in Battlestar... and no I notice neither. ^^ Seeing red dress turn up in Lucifer HOLY CRUD she always is set to 11. @_@

OH MY GOD YES, this is going to be such a great series, can't wait till you get to 12.... Maybe even 15..... Not like is going to take .... About 7 years.... But I am patient

Hey! Just letting you know that im trying to get into final fantasy so i figured id start with the very first game, hopefully i end up liking the series but thank you for posting this gameplay cause i dont have a way to play myself.

I love this game, when I was younger it was really hard, but eventually got very far on it.

Finally a series that is not based on the pixel remasters XDD I've been playing this game for the 1st time now... impressed me, it's a DECENT Dungeon Crawler, high difficulty, survival (me likey) Feels to me each subsequent FF game dumbed down a bit... the 1st one is the ESSENCE

Interesting team choice! I typically go Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage. Yes, it's an expensive team to manage due to having to buy tons of equipment and magic, but it works better for my style of play and makes it much easier to capitalize on the Pinnacle of Power mid-game! ;)

as a person that can't really play video games, let play videos saved and introduced me to my fav game, and I always wanted to get into final fantasy, so thank u for this video (yes I'm really late, but we all gotta start at some points right)

Thiefs are really good actually, they have high evasion and accuracy. Plus it's worth it to have them because the turn into ninjas which, in this game, are basically knights that can cast black magic instead of white.

I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment so I can continue my quest.

The day this came out it was my birthday

One note about the Thief: They make it so you will have an easier time escaping battle, so if you are down example magic casts for your casters, your warrior is nearly dead, and you are facing enemies you can't deal with properly yet. Then the thief can/will be a life saver, as you can escape to a resting place, to heal up, and revive fallen down allies.

Final Fantasy is the first and only final fantasy game I've ever played. I played the cell phone port on my flip phone back when I was a kid. I made it all the way to the final boss before getting stuck on it. I never had a chance to finish it because the game (along with every other game on my phone) was deleted off my phone as punishment for spending $300+ on phone apps and crowns for wizard101 without permission.

I always felt the strongest party was a fighter and one of every mage. Dungeons are tough with only 1 black magic user, and tougher with a red mage who always has less spells than black or white on the same level. The (perhaps) accidental genius of this game is it was playable over and over due to the select party feature. You could adjust the difficulty by adjusting your party. Defeating the game using no mages or only mages for example. Other games like ultima/avatar had this feature, but without significant change to difficulty.

Final fantasy has always been that series that was just...there. but I may try to collect some of the games that are like SUPER expensive lol

I love Fist of the North star such a great anime, people sleep on it, but I finished playing Final Fantasy Origin, and it made me want to watch someone play through FF1 glad I stumbled across you the video is great

I have this goal of playing all the Final Fantasy games in order (which will take awhile I'm sure with how I play games). I played the first one as a remake (Dawn of Souls for the Gameboy Advance) and fun facts: In that game the currency is called "Gil" and the Queen's name was Jane with a y (Jayne)!

This is a great game.

1 fighter, 1 thief, 1 white mage, 1 black mage. Suffer through the first part of the game, and it makes the last 1/2 of the game easier. Once they are upgraded to the knight, (I forget the thief upgrade), and wizards, they kick so much butt and you can spread out weapons/armor easier.

Question: in the future are you going to play Final Fantasy games in number order, or in release order?

Aw but Scykoh, the black mage sprite is so cute! It’s just a liddle creacher..... a babey....

It is pretty silly how the game expects you to remember the line at 25:14 for a single part at the end of the game. At least we have the Internet nowadays!

The W in Dr.W obviously stands for "WHACK", since Dr.W is swinging that mallet like a pro.

Want to make FF I a walk? Pick 2 Fighters and 2 Red Mages. 2nd as soon as you get the canoe save the game, go after the Zeus gauntlet. Save every chance you get a run from any encounter with man-cats and sorcerers. Eventually you can get the prizes outside of the castle. Save. Now you can go through the next 3 areas in reverse order, using the Zeus gauntlet eats the aquatic monsters.

Really excited for this playthrough!!! Never have been exposed a lot to Final Fantasy, but I can’t wait to get my first exposure vicariously through Scykoh! Let’s go!!!

The purple ones are your Elder Imps. They are normally referred to as GrIMPas. You could also encounter GrIMPmas as well.
