I don't think any music in a video game ever left me with a bigger feeling of dread than this one. The end of the floating continent was an incredible experience.
Yeah, as far as visual storytelling in classic sprite-based games goes, FFVI is right up there with Super Metroid. It's just, by the time you got to the floating continent, Kafka had already won, and you know it. The only reason that scene is even happening is because he convinced Gestahl to wait for you to arrive so he can make you watch.
This is why Kefka is the best videogame villain. He won. He destroyed the 🌎, made himself a God for more than a year, and his kill count is ridiculously high. Even though he's crazy, he's not stupid
