Final Fantasy VI: T-Edition Explained! What's this Hack all about?! 

I think SE delayed the FF6 pixel remaster because they heard about this and thought “how in the hell do we compete with that?!”

I've seen people elsewhere ask if they should play this as their first foray into FFVI, and the answer to that is no. It's more difficult than the original game. If it's not your first time playing FFVI, absolutely play this hack.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention David. Final Fantasy 6 is my favorite game of all time. I've probably played through it close to 20 times trying all different things especially in later playthroughs. While it is my favorite game I will admit there are many problems especially with balance. The game is too easy overall, some characters like the Figaro brothers are stupidly overpowered while others like Cyan, Umaro and Mog are relatively underpowered. The Esper level bonuses break the game if you use them strategically, some characters receive more development in the story than others too. Also as you pointed out the mag stat is king and most characters only need that one stat to become all powerful, even Sabin's martial arts blitz techniques are dictated by mag rather than str. This ROM hack looks like it corrects many of my complaints with the game as well as adds lots of extra goodies without altering the core story which I appreciate. Please let us know how you enjoyed the World of Ruin when you finish. Also if you pronounce Narshe as Nar-shee why don't you pronounce Locke as Lock-ee?

Final Fantasy VI was one of my favorite games growing up and this version is amazing. It allows me to relive a lot of the nostalgia of the original while still adding just enough for it to feel like a unique experience. One thing I don't like about it is the fighting the espers to gain their magicite. *Spoilers* After fighting my way through Zozo to get the magicite only to return to Narshe and getting killed by the Catoblepas (sp?) magicite and having to go through Zozo all over again was not fun. It was completely unexpected and I was not ready for it. ^^' *End spoilers* Not to mention that it completely ruins the story (magicite is supposed to be basically a dead esper with its power drained). But otherwise really good.

Words cannot express how much I love T-Edition. For a game that follows the same story, so much around that story has changed, I find it hard to believe that it's even the same game at all. And there's so much content to go around as well, so much that you have to actually patch some of the content in a completely different file in order to gain access to it

It's been a lot of fun watching you play this; I'm excited to see what changes are still in store in the world of ruin.

I spent many many months on the 2.9.3 English version from Kain Stryder last year when it came out. Found out that a 2.9.7 (with a huge UI update) came out not long after, but save files were not compatible with 2.9.3. But it is what it is, I continued on 2.0.3 until May when Tears of the Kingdom came out. That said, i absolutely LOVE what tsushiy did with T edition, it is brilliant!! I am a longtime ff6 fan, i actually preordered it at an Electronics Boutique back in 1993 (and got a lot of weird looks from the employees). Played it up and down, inside and out. Eventually used gameshark codes to explore the game further when nothing was traditionally left. So yeah, i was there for the original launch and i've gotten many "miles" out of the original FF6. T-edition, for me, feels like it expands on everything possible in the game. More event quests, more enemies, more music, more items, even more backstories! Hardly anything feels out of place. I have a minor complaint about a few of the enemy sprites but that's about it. Its difficult, more difficult than vanilla FF6. There was a "wall" for me early on in the World of Ruin, but i was actually able to get through it without having to grind. tl;dr T-edition is one of, if not the biggest, labor of love from a fan of any game! I highly, highly recommend this ROM hack! After I'm done with Tears of the Kingdom, I have a dilemma. I loved FF6 T-editiin so much that I so wish there were similar "enhanced" editions of Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5 and Chrono Trigger. I know there are many more ROM hacks that exist for those games... FF4 Ultima... Chrono Trigger+... I guess another "downside" of T edition is this: could I ever go back and play vanilla FF6 again? Maybe not. I DO know that I really want to update to the latest (2.9.7) and get to experience those new updates!

For the most part I've been really enjoying T-Edition, but a handful of things about it annoy me. The biggest thing that annoyed me was how when I went to World of Ruin, I appear to be locked out of getting Carbuncle and Catoblepas. Which...fine, I didn't expect everything to carry over from the World of Balance...however the Readme says..."Talk to Alvis in Narshe after completing the Magitek Factory. Alternatively, talk to an old man in Narshe after the world ends." This is FALSE. As evident at 5:06 of the video. David said he hasn't been to WoR yet, and there is Carbuncle in all his glory from an old man. This guy isn't here in WoR Also, as far as I can tell, these are the only missable Magicite. Why are only these 2 missable? (I hope I'm just wrong about this, if anyone reading this knows better please correct me) With that warning out of the way, outside of that if you've played FF6 to death and are looking for a fresh experience, look no further than T-Edition

I had to go out and immediately grab this. Knew about this hack for a while but no translation meant no go. I never really saw the details laid out like that. Just something as simple as character specific HP pools of that magnitude gets me excited. FF6 always lacked making such unique characters actually unique statistically. Then I tried the hack a bit and saw it even has the ATB bars stop during animations change which makes speed actually freaking matter and I KNEW this was made by people exactly like me.

I'm generally not super into hacks (outside fan translations) but holy heck it is *absurd* the amount of work and effort that went into this. It's basically a whole new game

I really really want to try this game. On the other hand, I'm generally a bit of a purist and like the original FF6 insanely much already. Maybe I'll just play them back to back!

i hate how final fantasy 6 which is in my opinion one of the best final fantasy's is literally the only one that has been overlooked by square and it deserves a remastered so bad.

This is 100 times better than the pixel remake version. I'm a huge FF6 fan and I just don't understand why couldn't SquareEnix do something like this in the PR version.

All bugs fixed. Me a crazy person: Using Relm to cast Invisible on Invisible things causing game to crash and delete save files. Almost all bugs fixed.

Man based on what these programmers where able to accomplish I think THEY should've handled the FF6 remaster & not Square Enix since they dropped the ball on the "Pixelperfect Edition". That release was IMMENSELY disappointing...

Eh… the Gau change I could do without, while inconvenient that it could only be on the veldt and that he jumped away when he did it, that was part of the charm of his character. He was always the wild child who really only followed you at all when you gave him food so it wasn’t expected that he was a permanent member of the party

I have checked this out when you've been streaming it and it looks great. A very well done hack of the game. Even though I don't have much to say overall about this, as I've only seen some of the gameplay from you (giving lurks most of the time), but need to support a great channel, and streamer/content creator overall, even if it just a comment and like to help the algorithm to hopefully bring more eyes to you.

Would have been nice if they reworked the Fonts in this version that way they could get the full names of enemies and other stuff to fit without having to Abbreviate or drop some letters.

I'm pleased that the remaster will be out in February. Hopefully early in Feb and they do a good job with this great game. I'm really looking forward to playing Final Fantasy VI again, the last time I played it was in March 2017 so that would be around five years ago.

I just played through the Brave New World 1.9 mod which is a solid improvement over the original game and includes some of the ideas from T Edition. I'm not sure I like all of the things that T Edition has done to the game but the scope of this mod is intriguing. I look forward to trying it out.

The word *"BALANCED"* was said a lot in this video. Does that mean that the T-Edition is more difficult than the original? Is this one of those rom hacks that takes one of the BEST VIDEO GAMES OF ALL-TIME and turns in into "Dark Souls Hard" and then people claim how great it is? (or even worse; claiming that it's better that the original)

These changes are so impressive that it's now the definitive version in my mind. The best Final Fantasy just got better.

This seems like a lot of the quality of life stuff from Brave New World without as much of a floor-to-ceiling reinvention.... Seems neat, but I also feel like I'll prefer BNW to it.

I do want to try this, but I feel like I have to wait until after I play the pixel remaster because otherwise my opinion may get quite skewed.

Hard mode be good, only issue with FF6 was it was a pushover in terms of difficulty.

After I play the original and played more playthroughs of the game I’ll might concider playing the t edition one day. After I play the original, the gba and pixel remaster versions.

This looks way cool. And best of all the option to have Locke’s outfit match his character portrait pleases Amano fans like myself very much.

Only problem i have is the music. They changed a few tracks to music from other games and its a bit jarring. I'd rather those be left for new additions rather than change areas that already had good tracks or fitting tracks. That being said, I wish T is what the pixel remaster brought.

I was looking for an excuse to replay this game and I think I just found it.

I find it’s a harder game to beat, you have to farm exp a lot of times to continue or have a great strategy (and save states to correct your strategy multiple times). I’m having trouble finding any exp eggs, the treasure chest in Darill’s tomb is a monster that gives you a cape, not sure if they even exist in this mod. Overall it’s a great twist!

The big turnoff for me with this hack/retranslation is that the ATB pauses during character and enemy actions. It makes basic battles last longer and stretches them out. This works well in games like Chrono Trigger because the ATB gauge is faster and the battles are quicker as well. It just didn't vibe with me in a game like ff6.

Somehow I found you while I was exploring FFV PR, and I discovered T Edition because of your previous video. I have barely gotten in but its ready to go once I can stop playing Project Diablo 2. Much gratitude.

The sad part is F is the 6th letter in the Alphabet which makes it 666, just some food for thought.

Now that we have the T edition I hope we get the N A editions too

I've heard and seen playthroughs of other FF VI rom hack games, particularly, The Eternal Crystal's, Return of the Dark Sorcerer & Brave New World. Didn't know about this version of FF VI till a small scene I saw in a countdown vid of FF romances and Locke & Celes was on there. Now my interest in this rom hack is piqued

I hope its easier to see Shadow's flashback dream cutscenes instead of sleeping and randomly hoping to get it.

Awwwww Terra I can understand, but Celes was a knight. SHe should still be tough. Why are the girls always the frail little casters? Why can't I be a badass half esper with fury and force? Instant turn off for me for this version, which sucks seeing how so many other things were getting me hyped to try it out.

this is what the Pixel Remasters SHOULD be, but once again, its the fans that the job for SE... not mocking SE at all, they do make great games but for some reason, they really struggle with their PC VERSIONS, usually fans have to fix them lol

Quick video criticism/suggestion: When you're talking about something, try to make sure the visuals match the subject you're speaking about. Throughout this video you were talking about one new feature or change while the visuals were covering a totally different one, and it was impossible to catch both simultaneously. I had to close my eyes and just listen, or rewind constantly. Example: at 4:27 you begin talking about the night-time scene in Albrook, but the video continues with the auction house. If you didn't capture video from that scene, then you could simply use a still image, so that it wouldn't distract from your speaking.

Ughhh, I loved everything about this except replacing Siegfried with Gilgamesh.... seems like such a stupid waste to toss out that character rather then flesh him out. I don't mind Gilgamesh being added, just the replacement. I mean, it would have been hilarious if they clashed when screwing with you. Just a bummer. But anyways, this looks otherwise awesome, will give it a try!

I only got to watch 2 minutes so far but most of what I heard sounds awful. Relics drop, that’s cool, relics teach magic, so just fuck Terra, Celes, the plot, and especially Kefka who went insane from magitek infusions. Celes is a wimpy girl mage as is Terra? Awesome, let’s not have strong female characters and keep to the molds Tolkien set, don’t stray now. I hope I’m jumping the pessimism gun, would love a well done update that builds on the game’s strengths, not reduces a remarkably forward thinking masterpiece into shitty tropes.

Hi, I just started and as much as I like FF6, the original game is a mess. We know the reasons why, so I won't go into those. I just started this hack but I've been cautious because there are some things I need to know before I decide to go forward. You mentioned that Espers no longer give stat ups on level ups. That's good, it is one of the main changes I'd do to the game if I knew how. However, you also mention that Espers still teach spells to characters, and that is the second thing I'd have changed, I think characters should have had natural spell lists to fit them into proper niches. Is that limited somehow? are specific Espers meant for specific characters? and lastly, since Esper leveling up bonuses are gone, do characters get natural stat growths now with levels (as is the case with almost all other games in the franchise)?

i just want a harder version of the game, it's just to easy when you know how to get the good stuff

Played the T edition until I beat WoR (not playing the extra content). While I liked it, it wasnt as good as I has hoping it to be. I didnt like most of the music they used (some tracks just dont work in the 32 bit era), fighting almost every esper was a little anoying for me, I didnt like that most of the treasures were changed and the huge nerf that both Figaro brothers got. Great thing is that the game is indeed challenging (or it is until you realize how broken morphed Terra is).

this game is alot of fun. i loved this game. however, the original thing had alot of issues. and i found it to be rather too easy in world of ruin, you had barely anything to do without any proper challenges. you got those equipment that made you hit multiple times? and you could end bosses in a few turns. that was boring. i looked at all these videos that showed optional bosses such as emporor dragon with 1million HP and stuff. and i was so sad i never got to fight them as alot of new optional bosses that gives you a legit challenge would make this game alot more fun!

One thing i've wondered about this mod is wheter it retains the chests that change content as the plot advances.

The Gau change is a little OP, honestly. Feels more like a change because people were annoyed by how you had to learn the rages. Makes sense he would need time, however short, with the monster to learns its abilities.
