I love Aerith so much after experiencing her in the Remake and Rebirth. She was the real heroine of this story. To give her the full attention in the endgame was well deserved. If I ever restart the Remake and meet her again as the lovely flower girl, that she was, I think I'm gonna be a teary mess.
Yes, the story has always centered around Aerith since OG. She was the first and last one we see. The ending of OG is Aerith opening her eyes. At the end of Advent Children, during the credits, Cloud is riding his bike to go see Aerith.

I didn't really care much for Aerith in the original, probably because I also knew she was gonna die, but they really fleshed her out in the remakes, making her probably my favorite character. Though her death in Rebirth pissed me off more than made me sad because not only how much the games teased us before about potentially saving her this time, but also because of how convoluted they made her death with all the multiverse crap.
This guy figured out the entire ‘did Aerith die or live?’ conundrum thirty seconds after it happened. Respect to this guy for actually paying attention to the dialogue and analysing it closely.
There's not nearly enough of us and it always breaks my heart that people don't see the beauty of Cloud and Aerith and how the love is so strong it can survive death itself-this is displayed by both of them always trying to find each other in other worlds/timelines/games outside of the FF7 universe
I dunno why so many people aren't picking up on the multiple realities happening at once with her alive in one of them. She literally fought Sephiroth physically alongside Cloud as the 10th stage of the boss fight and In Zack's fight against Sephiroth reborn when he's been seperated from Cloud sent into another world he does a synergy ability with Cloud while Cloud is in another world. Cloud is experiencing being in multiple worlds at once.
@@Rydiculous I think the main argument that's going on is that there are people who believe that Aerith has to die in the end for FF7 to have any real meaning. That plus the fact that some people have been saying that the makers of FF7R are planning on following the same story beats (whatever that means considering the changes that have been made) and that it's meant to follow into FF7-AC. Now, I don't really have too much investment in the Final Fantasy stories myself due to the theme of death. Aerith dies half-way through FF7. There's a rumor going around that Squall dies before the start of FF8 and the whole story was just his death rattle. Tidus dies before the main story of FF10 and only existed as long as SIN existed. So, for me, my investment was purely in the idea that the hero defied the odds and broke the story just enough to give the pure-hearted girl a chance to survive.
This right here! I don't know if it's Aerith that helps Cloud go through the realities/worlds to use that Synergy attack with Zack or if it's actually Cloud though. Also, I wonder how many people caught what Cloud says to Aerith and her response to it. Cloud asks "You gonna be ok getting back?" with Aerith responding "And if I said I wasn't?" and this is where most people are reminded about when she said that in Remake (misdirection), but the important part "Don't worry. It's like a second home." might be a clue to either she's been traveling either in the lifestream and/or different realities/worlds. @@Rydiculous

@davidbourlot8175 im pretty sure the other person is being sarcastic and stating that the optional date with Tifa has no impact on the story which is true. Cloud doesn't act any different after that and evens goes on dates with aerith making it look like that kiss meant nothing to him. But this isn't surprising the devs said the optional dates have no impact on the story and won't change the story.
@@Wraith921 well, in the date there are references to Tifa's optional scene in Remake, and that scene was also supposed to have no repercutios so.... Its a yes and no situation, besides, im almost sure the kiss will be referenced in part 3. Also, wasnt sure if it was sarcasm cause in my case i only saw Tifa's date, ill see a second on hard mode, and the rest of them after that 😅
Honestly the thing that annoys me the most is that people write it off under the assumption that they know everything. This new trilogy is supposed to play with your knowledge of the og. It's here to be an addition to the og, not a replacement. I was confused as hell at the end of Remake but i couldn't get mad at it because i didn't know where it was going. And all of my questions there got answered here. So i'm not gonna judge this ending until i get the full picture either. Part 3 is definitely gonna have the answers. And once the full thing is here, THEN i can truly judge it. Until then i'm loving this ride, i'm intrigued and i will enjoy it as long as i can.
I also dont understand it, for sure if it was just the same ending as og, which ive seen more than 20 times, i wouldnt feel so many emotions. Also the fact that we speak with the og Aerith in the church before the ending was so intense to watch ❤
Found your live this morning by chance and I'm so glad I did. Was genuinely refreshing to hear the perspective of someone who enjoyed the game and its ending. And didn't immediately dismiss the events with Aerith as "robbing us our moment". Still bawled like you did though, 3 years is an eternity to wait for the next one!
I 100% agree. I actually think the ending is super cool and interesting. And while I do think it does happen sometimes, I'm in the 'resurrection doesn't always ruin a death' camp. Doesn't make it any less impactful for me at least lol. If she does end up perma coming back, or going back to perma dead, I'll be fine either way. It's all about the execution of it imo.

And I'm sure we will see what the consequences are in the next game. Therefore, I'm not mad about not seeing the death at this moment because I think it will come back in some way in the next game. I think people jumped the gun on hating it because it seems like a "cop out". I prefer to withhold my opinion until I get the full story in part 3. I'm very aware death is permanent thanks, I just lost my father a month ago. This game was deeply emotional for me because I had to say goodbye to him and then Aerith.
Besides Smash Bros., I don’t know if Roger has cried as often at a video game as he did for Rebirth. Seeing him bawl his eyes out makes this not only one of my all time favorite playthroughs of his, but my reaction of the year so far. I’m glad to have watched you take this journey. We love you! Aeriths theme playing during the Jenova fight was from the OG, I got emotional when I saw they kept it, it was such a great ending.... confusing but great. Bring on game 3!!!
Its like Cloud is 'trapped' between 2 differents worlds/timelines after block Sephiroth and save Aerith. Thats why he can see the tear in the sky and the others dont.
Yeah, maybe in his reality where he "saves" Aerith, he fucks up the timeline and sees a doomed world since she needs to join the lifestream to be able to control it to help Holy.
I agree... it looks like Cloud is able to see and feel two or many worlds at the same time... He has shown signals of that since the chapter 8 night at the hotel, when cloud had been able to listen Zack's voice calling him from the other world while he was asleep. I believe likestream is helping Cloud to fight Sephiroth, because when he saved Aerith we could see lifestream giving him Power to break through the purple whispers and defend her from Sephiroth's attack. The lifestream could be an specific Aerith from the future, or even her mom, i really have no idea
Not just the tear in the sky but also probably why only he can see and talk to Aerith. It’s likely he’s the only one who can communicate with Aerith from the timeline where she’s alive. It’s probably why Cloud doesn’t seem sad because he knows she’s alive in another world. just a theory lol.
Nope Aerith is dead. Cloud Saved her in the new timeline but the start of the words converging (new reunion) sided with her being dead. You can tell because the sword is right where Cloud knocked it away but then there’s blood on it and she’s stabbed. Sephiroph even says, “And so it begins. A confluence of worlds and emotions. Loss, chief among them.” She’s a force ghost now and Cloud can see and talk to her. She can also fight against Sephiroth in the lifestream, between universes, and or in Cloud’s head. The rift in the sky might mean the world’s haven’t fully converged yet so there’s still time for Zack, Biggs, etc. to survive when it all goes back to a single world.

For those wondering the trilogy is LITERALLY a sequel to advent children: from the first game you can clearly tell that Aerith and Sephiroth knew what was going to happen in the future and by challenging fate multiple timelines were created so there’s still a chance to see Aerith back in the third game in fact she’s alive in Zack’s timeline.
The devs already Said it dosen't Care how much they Change at the end everything will Connect to Advent children means aerith and Zack cannot live in Clouds time. But they can live in another universe. (Like in the movie Cloud Sees them an the end of the movie when they vanish means He saw there an alternative Version of aerith an Zack.)
I kind of assumed they didn't show Aerith's burial scene because they want to bring her back, but I didn't consider they start the next game witht hat! I think that is what you say because when Sephiroth is talking to Cloud where he explains to him about the worlds and tells him that he gives him his blessing, he opens a portal behind him, I imagine he sends him to wherever suits him best
I disagree about the Aerith being our Aerith. Because the other dimension Aerith would've had the same gear you put on her anyway since the same stuff was happening. That and also they could've just had her have the same gear for gameplay reasons

Thats “our Aerith” the memories she had I believe to be the post AC Aerith who we see at the end of the game. I think for Rebirth AC Aerith switched out of her body which is why the memories are gone

I always assumed Red's species could communicate with the planet just like the Cetra but it could just be a combination of Bugenhagens planetology knowledge and his canine senses
From what I gather, Aerith understands everything that's going to happen because she's the only Cetra left that can actually talk to the planet. Sephiroth says "all are bound to her" which would include him because his real mother and father ( Lucrecia and Hojo ) are born of the lifestream and so is he. The planet knows what Sephiroth is up to and is telling Aerith. She knows Sephiroth created a world at the end of Remake where Holy didn't exist and that she'd have to get it from another world to save all the worlds when Sephiroth unites them. That will be the story of the next game.
42:24 When the Advent Children music started i was shaking non stop until the freaking end of the game... As a long time fan of FF7 this game is a dream come true from start to finish. I loved every single second of it. It clearly has it's flaws and somethings disapointed me like the Shinra Mansion and the fact that they skipped the iconic water scene of Cloud letting Aerith go. But that doesn't destroy the game for me. FF7 is so damn special to me and many of us that this game is a true love letter and a dream come true. We are not ready for the INSANITY that will be Part 3 and possibly (just a theory) the end of the whole FF7 Compilation that this project is quite aiming for. What an amazing experience in my life has been being a FF7 fan.
I think that Cloud is in denial of Aeriths death, that's why only he can see her. Then we'll have a version of that scene with Cloud and and Tifa in the Lifestream, where she helps him recollect his memories. But this time a huge part of that will be seeing and accepting Aeriths death and then we'll get the moment of him carrying her into the water, because he'll remember it.
Cloud saved Aerith but Aerith is trying to fool Sephiroth so she is flipping timelines. She only let Cloud know because he was breaking again. Everyone else thinks shes dead and think Cloud is deteriorating from mako poisoning and that why he is ignoring her death. Im just about 100% positive she we be alive at the end of the next FF7 game.

@@PromatheosNo he saved her in the Rebirth timeline he stopped Sephiroths blade then it goes to his trauma vision where he has flashbacks of Aerith dieing. Also as the other members come running up they first see Rebirth Aerith then they see flashback vision Aerith who was stabbed.
Even Sephiroth did mention that he underestimated her, and Cloud is saying that Sephiroth can't fool him - not anymore, during the last fight with Aerith. The whole plot of the trilogy is to save Aerith, I guess. And Zack will be playing a huge role in P3, since he has to cure Cloud somehow.
This ending was incredible! When I played this I was shaking the whole time. This is one of the best games I’ve ever played and one of the best endings I’ve ever seen. Everything I’ve wanted they delivered and then more. When Aerith died I screamed out like “Sephiroth you piece of sh*t! This is for Aerith!” Then when Zack and Cloud teamed up I screamed even louder. I still feel like im grieving for Aerith and I finished the game a few days ago. Haven’t felt like this with a character death since Plague Tale Requiem. Game of the year and possibly of the decade. That is until part 3 releases.

The original FF7 also played Aerith's theme when you fought Jenova in the Forgotten Capital after Sephiroth killed her, this actually isnt the first time Square has done that. It made the fight a lot more somber than it would have originally been had they used the regular Jenova fight music. It made me glad seeing that they did that again for this game

I’ve had a thought for a while now and I want everyone’s take. Back during the interviews with Nomura when he confirmed this game would link up with AC, I always felt like they spoiled the whole RE: Trilogy by confirming that. But I thought back to why did they re-release AC in theatres before part 2? It’s because I believe it’s a play on words. Nomura said once the trilogy is over it will all link up with AC, he never said that AC would follow after. What if it’s instead a bait, and he meant it’s going to link up with AC taking place before the RE: Trilogy, meaning the ending could be different. (I.e. Aerith lives in the end)

The OG was about life and death. This one seems to be more focused on defying fate and destiny. Zack talking about how FATE’s got one twisted sense of humor. Talking about how this is his life and he makes the rules. At Destiny’s Crossroads before going through the portal Aerith mentions they’ll be changing more than FATE itself. Red saw a glimpse in the future, same scene from the OG and same scene from AC, him and his pups running and seeing humanity seemingly extinct. That scene is set 500 years in the future. In remake Barret asks what the hell did I just see and Red says a glimpse of tomorrow if they fail here today. This hints they failed originally. Sephiroth reveals to Cloud in after the last date with Aerith that some worlds quickly perish while others endure. Yet even the most resilient worlds are doomed to fade. Which is probably our main world. It was able to endure for far longer than the rest but it still fails and that’s why Aerith is trying to prevent it while Sephiroth wants to make it happen before 500 years. Not sure how they will do it exactly but the link up could be similar to how they showed that scene of Red running with his pups but this time scenes of AC and that’s all the linking up they would need to do. Or maybe as others have said this is all a sequel to AC. There are a lot of things, even in interviews with language even that can be misunderstood or mistranslated. It just seems like the talk about fate and destiny, including in the main song for rebirth, has to mean something. I know there are more than I mentioned here like Cloud saying you’ve done it before, can do it again. Probably more but I can’t think of them right now.
Great to watch this live! Your energy is very infectious that it brightened my day and I’m sure a lot of others as well! Watching the bits I missed while I was busy. This truly was a roller coaster of a final chapter.
My personal theory: Sephiroth let Cloud save Aerith and creating a world in which she lives and that only he can see (he was the only one who entered the temple at the forgotten capital cause Sephiroth allowed him to) so he can go in full denial and once he’ll realize at the northern crater that she’s dead along with all the rest, he’ll get worse than the original. It’s all part of Sephiroth plan to mess with him.
You think that only cloud can see this other Aerith, but at the same time she does actually exist, or do you think it's ultimately a fake world created by Sephiroth? - for example when Red senses her, it calls this into question.
@@DannyPotato it’s Aerith 100%, it’s her manifesting like Sephiroth does, she can travel through lifestream and worlds, but like Sephiroth said all the worlds that are born cause destiny is breached are doomed, so Aerith is actually dead, but her spirit lives on and that’s why she can manifest in all the world in which she’s alive. And in the world Cloud created she lives so she can manifest. And she stays close to Cloud cause as of now if he realizes she’s dead he will become a hooded man like the others, but it’s also what Sephiroth wants, cause when the northern crater moment will come and he’ll realize that she’s actually dead, he’ll lose it completely. Sephiroth will kill her again in front of Cloud’s eyes, and we will also see the actual scene of Aerith’s death, with the funeral too, in part 3. Tifa will have to do an hell of a job to make him come back this time.
I think Cloud DID save Aerith and she is still alive, but used the white whispers to manipulate the time line so that Sephiroth and everyone else minus Cloud thinks he killed her like the original, so she can stay in the capital and keep praying for holy unabated

I’ve watched the ending a few times now and think it’s pretty great. Especially the Aerith scene was almost perfect and quite faithful to the OG but with a twist. The ending simultaneously answered some of Remakes mysteries while introducing new ones which will more likely than not be answered in Final Fantasy VII Requiem (FF7R Part 3). ;)
EXACTLY. You keep the emotion of the OG mostly intact while still opening the door for her potential survival later on through the sword parry and multiple worlds. They are trying to give fan fair to everyone and I'm ok with that.

@@kostasspirou1010 Sephiroth is much smarter in this game than the original version of the game. The villian is stuck in two dimensions and in a metaphysical realm with the Cloud that didnt get comatosed by the tornado. We have like three clouds in total now and he is also messing with Zacks mind. Aerith did die the way she did; its just the writers and directors are diving deep into Cloud's mind where he is seeing so many illusions and he does mention that at the end of part 2. I believe they are going to go a Chrono Cross route with part 3 and there is a good chance Cloud might become evil permentally evil. The other team from other dimension is going to have to cross into other universe with Aeirth, Zack, Cloud, and hopefully Barret and Tifa are recovered by then. We will need this team to defeat Sephiroth in the future and probably evil-Cloud that way they could put stop to him summoning the meteor. They couldn't do all this subtle detail with story back in 1997 lol, so yeah it makes a lot of sense. I wouldn't doubt part-3 is going to be shorter than part two were in for a big surprise.
Thats my biggest problem with the ending. We get like a half dozen goodbye scenes maybe more between her and Zach. It loses steam at the end as a result. Not saying it's a bad game at all but it's something I need to let marinate in my head longer.
I don't think they will go that route. I think we just have 1 world now and they are just building up the hype and mental breakdown of cloud in the northern crater. Cloud doesn't break free from sephiorth until tifa helps piece his mind together in the lifestream.
@@Firebird1968 I can sorta agree but I think they are planning on making most of that finality in the last part. I really think they’re not going to drop the ball and deliver a satisfying ending and in that regard I’m ok with how the handled it for the penultimate chapter.
I think there's a moment when we give Aerith the White Materia and she takes it and it glows then she gives us one back that's clear, that's very interesting. Back at Johnny's Inn she mentions that it's clear because it's been robbed of the memories it carries. What if: us getting the White Materia from across timelines/parallel worlds, was part of Aerith's plan to recover some lost memories that would allow her to know what to do ahead of her og cannon death at Sephiroth's blade. She's basically sending her own memories back and across times and space to close a loop in which she controls the white Whispers to battle Sephiroth in the Lifestream. With that in mind, I can't see how we end up where Advent Children happens. That was basically the bad ending, where Sephiroth corrupts the Lifestream and creates the Geostigma. I see Aerith altering the ending so that she saves the planet for good and does so avoiding having Sephiroth ending in the Lifestream. We also know that she's been saving and storing people in a dream of hers/alternate world. Perhaps she's just saving up those who should have died in the OG timeline to send them back to reality or into the lifestream once she's secured it.
Finally someone gets it! There are no multiple world, Aerith is just keeping every one in her dream world, not only those who we know but also lots of citizens, in order to send them back to lifestream when things are safe. See the npc in the date dream, people know the end but they do not fear.
I’ve never actually thought about this but that would give credence to why she mentions ‘The Flower Girl?’ in the OG game before the Lifestream shows up. Not to mention Advent Children where she again senses Aerith before something happens and dresses almost exactly like Aerith.

Wouldn’t be a stretch if Zackverse Marlene is just channeling Cloudverse Marlenes knowledge that she gained after hugging Aerith.
The whole thing with the different Stamps is to show Zack is being forced to restart his timeline because fate wants things to go a specific way. But because he’s so desperate to change fate, he manages to keep pushing through each restart.
Finally had the time to finish the last 2 chapters yesterday and man what a ride that was. I loved remake but if I had to describe rebirth, I would say that it, makes me happy. This game just filled me with joy every time I played it. I've only played remake before this and not the original FF7 sadly but what the heck man the rollercoaster of emotions that it gives you, especially the last couple hours! I'm super mega confused about where we're gonna go from here, I did know that the timeline split during remake BUT NOW I HAVE EVEN MORE QUESTIONS THAN BEFORE. Yes I was still bawling my eyes out the entire time. I love this game, this story and FF7 has become one of my favorite games of all time, ever since remake!
I personally liked the ending and people have to understand that its not the full story. It was left on a cliffhanger like remake was, but that was expected as we know theres 3 games.

I wanted Aerith to live so badly and this like... semi alive... maybe? I dunno. Whatever I think, seeing your enjoyment and excitement really helped me cope. You rock.
This is just my take, the other timelines are only to show why only the original timeline can beat Sephiroth (like in infinity war). Ancients seem to be able to connect with the other timeline counterparts and Aerith is doomed to die in many timelines. Thus it is possible for the next game to have multiverse combine and Cloud will experience different worlds. The facts that Cloud and Zack was able to be present on the same dimension suggest this is no longer the OG FF7.
Not necessarily there will always be an Aerith alive, in another timeline, to help defeat Sephiroth and Jenova, so we will have to wait for the 3rd and final part .
The Planet uses fate magic (whispers) to manipulate beings that come from it like the main cast into guaranteeing victory with Holy. Sephiroth knew he was destined to lose so used Cloud and company to destroy fate so that he may win in Remake. Now that fate is gone the planet is using temporary pocket worlds as back ups for important people it cannot protect from dying anymore. Aerith is going to be force ghosting all over the place in Part 3 just like Sephiroth has for parts 1 and 2.
I feel like in that aeirth scene where he gave her a renewed holy, and she went behind trees, that was him in the original ff7 world in clouds eyes, then we saw him warp back into his own body from our games. In which he has a blank holy. When she dies, that’s cloud seeing the original ff7 play out through clouds eyes. In ‘our’ world, he saves aeirth. I feel their trying to deceive us and think she’s gone but our peoples timeline she is alive and with a blank holy, they’ll have to figure another way to stop meteor
Yes, not enough people are talking about the split scene between Aerith getting the holy from Cloud in the forest just the two of them, to our Rebirth Aerith leaving the party while Cloud is knocked out on Barret. That's two Aeriths- the one that gets stabbed is the one we gave the new White Materia to, because that White Materia drops in the water. "Our Aerith" survives and fights with us. But, she has hopped into another universe somehow. The party sees the dead body of the Aerith who meets Cloud alone in the forest. Either that, or dimension hopping Aerith who took the White Materia from Cloud went to the temple and gave it to our Aerith... Our Aerith put it in her hair, was killed, and now dimension hopper is still alive but only Cloud can see her and Red can feel her.
@@yaydahling yea, others seem to say that their consciences went into the lifeless ones in Zack’s portion. That aerith that gave cloud the active holy knew about what it’d do and Seph coming, ect. Like it wasn’t our aerith inside her. And they say the forest scene giving aerith holy, is somehow in their minds, that he gives it to her through his mind, and when she wakes up next to cloud she has the blank one swapped with active one. I find that hard to believe but that’s what most going with. The time tunnel warps make me think cloud went into ff7 original’s cloud during forest scene. Gave the OG aerith holy, and warped into his own body next to aerith. Our aerith was shown to have empty holy all game long that’s no good. I don’t see how aerith got her blank one swapped with active holy in their dreams. I think ours still has blank one, and when he saved her, that was ours with blank in hair, and the dying aerith was the OG aerith maybe we gave holy to in forest. Cause I believe our aerith has blank holy still, thus making one that died another aerith because that one that came from her hair was a active holy, not blank. That cloud sees into OG’s timeline now like aerith knew things in game 1. Think their tricking us and end scenes at lake and plane in field were from alternate world, and aerith is alive in ours. And plot of game 3, is finding way to stop meteor with a blank holy and aerith alive, and cloud would mention in game 3 about knowing things from this other timeline he can now see, and how meteor comes and holy saves them
I've been thinking the same. Not enough ppl seem to realise that the Aerith in the forest, alone with Cloud, isn't the Remake-timeline Aerith. I mean she is legit saying: " We meet again." This one sentence should show us that it's not the same Aerith from remake timeline, but more like the OG one. But I think that Cloud and the Group got leaped into the OG timeline at the end by either Sephiroth or Aerith, that's why everyone on the team, except Cloud, is seeing her as dead and we're seeing him saying his sentences from the OG game. The moment Tifa is running towards Cloud and aerith she's seeing both realities for a second, but she doesn't quite realise what's happening. She saw that cause she fell into the LS in Chapter 9. Only Cloud is experiencing both timelines/universes at the same time, and that's why he said to Sephiroth during their fight with aerith: "don't even bother. You can't fool me - not anymore"
9:30 It’s funny when the latest patch for FF7 Remake was out to fix Aerith’s line in English to be more accurate to the JP version: “The sky, I hate it.” (空 きらいだな). Not sure why they translated it as “I miss it, the steel sky” in the first place, only to be fixed four years later, maybe because it becomes relevant now in Rebirth.
I think they misinterpreted it as her missing the "steel sky" of Midgar because they couldn't understand why she would just hate the normal sky. It comes out later that no she's actually seeing something up there she hates, so it makes more sense now I think
I have watched about 5 people reacting to this finale as of now and everytime i do I wanna play it again. It is so good! Also, everytime I understand something more. Very rewarding to watch again.
I reckon she still understands that it has to do with him being a soldier. They're just making cloud and tifas mental state worse to make a certain sequence even more impactful in the third game. In my opinion, a lot of the final chapter is done the way it is to build up the sequence further. They're really leaning into it.

@Soulferno can't wait to see how they do it. If the tifa weapon sequence in gongaga is anything to go by, then I reckon they're going to nail it. And yeah, the aerith situation gives them a lot more to work with in the build up to the big revelation.
@Soulferno are they building to zack? Feels like they kind of dealt with it, he already remembers him, he knows he was a soldier and Aerith's ex, and that they were friends. If anything the revelation feels like it will be weaker now
SPOILERS BELOW FOR OG FF7 FOR THOSE WHO CARE @@moon8983they’ve set it up in an interesting way I think. Cause yeah he does know about Zack now and about Zack being Aerith’s ex. However, Cloud still hasn’t realized that he wasn’t actually in SOLDIER and that he was just a grunt during the Nibelhiem mission. He also doesn’t remember Hojo’s experiments on him and Zack’s death and buster sword etc… So they’ve set it up to still be a huge gut punch to cloud when the time comes and now even more with the Aerith multiverse shenanigans too. The lifestream section with Cloud and Tifa is gonna be a 10/10 and I can’t wait
Man I was crying off and on for the entire duration of the ending sequence, starting as early as the date before even reaching the forgotten capital and the events there. Something about it just screamed to me so clearly she knew she couldn't escape what is coming and wanted to spend her final moments with Cloud having fun and telling him how she felt before marching to her death. Her fading away after taking Cloud's hand after the final battle and her 'Goodbye' at the end had me ugly crying in the club. Maybe I'm just extra soft but after spending so many countless hours with this character across 2 games I legitimately felt heartbroken, despite knowing her fate all along. Fuck man.
The ending where Cloud sees Aerith is easily explained as in Sephiroth is in the Lifestream so he controls the minds of soldiers infused with Mako, and now that Aerith/Holy is in the lifestream, Aerith can make herself appear in Cloud's mind

Interestingly, the original Japanese line for this scene in Rebirth, Cloud says, “Wait for me”, as in, “Aerith, I’m gonna kill this bastard, so please, live long enough to see me do it.” However, “I got this” was nice too. Love this game. ❤
@vangmx both go very hard. I actually knew about the "Wait for me" line bc aerith fans were using it as some kind of proof of Canon but I like your interpretation way more
Man, this is honestly my fav FF alongside the OG FF7 and FF6. Sure, the ending is slightly convoluted and it builds-up to the third game, but still an unbelievable experience.
I am new to the FF games. Rebirth was my first. Very amazed at how good it was. From understanding and learning what is going on, Sephiroth could have completley controlled Cloud when falling to catch Aerith, in what looks to be our actual timeline where it seems to play out with her dying, eventhough Cloud could have actually saved her. The Black Materia at the end with Cloud could possibly still be Sephiroth in my mind, trying to coax them all to follow him. Can not wait to play Remake and see how it plays out in the next game. The waiting is going to be so hard.
Finished yesterday.. we all knew what was going to happen... but this time Square has outdone themselves... it was impossible to hold back the tears. this game is incomparable to anything, it is a masterpiece.
Ngl my favorite scene in this game is cloud and aerith in the church and her pushing cloud back while sephiroth walks in, music score is excellent, badassery of sephiroth walking in excellent. This scene had all the right touches and tbh hit harder than aerith dying later “again”
I loved seeing you going through all the enotions haha! I was so confused at it all first but when the credits rolled I cried so much and it was all sp beautiful and awesome.
