Not oblivious, but he's emotionally kind of immature. His stoicism comes from him pretending to be someone he's not, and while Tifa just sort of thinks he's changed and is a little upset over it, Aerith can plainly see that he's trying too hard to be a tough guy, and so ribs him for it, all while also being reminded of Zack who Cloud is emulating a part of his personality from. It's not to say Cloud isn't stoic in his own ways too, but Aerith is pretty much living for the brief moments she gets him to lower his guard and be his genuine self, which is why she toys with him constantly, and why Cloud's character becomes more emotionally available as the game goes on.

Leo Choco, two good ones. Back in 97 (I was in 7th grade) when the bad stuff happened at the end of dick 1 it took me a long time to move on to disk 2 & 3, much less play it again. I still can’t bear to watch ‘Your Lie in April’ again. I’m also a musician and performer, needless to say that one hit pretty close to home. Great media makes you feel something. Both FF7 and YLiA did that in spades.

Agreed. Equal screen time does not necessarily mean equal quality and importance. For example, just because Aerith gets a romantic scene doesn’t mean Tifa gets one. Likewise, just because Tifa gets an action scene, doesn’t mean Aerith gets one too. So forth and so on, it’s not a 1:1 trade off. All of Aerith’s scenes are more touching, romantic, and emotional. Just compare Clouds resolution with Tifas. Cloud’s is a whole damn love confession with Aerith while Tifas is her realizing Cloud’s heart belongs to Aerith and all the losses she’s had, which now includes Cloud.

Fact is, Cloud DOES talk a lot more with Aerith. Even in Ch. 14 scene. Cloud only talks 4 generic lines of dialogue in BOTH Tifa's and Barret's scenes, meanwhile with Aerith he speaks 13 lines. That's more than 3 times of the other 2 scenes.

I think she was trying to distance Cloud from her because she knows she is going to die. She has feelings for him, but she doesn't want to hurt him even more when she passes away.

The reason we care so much about Aerith after all this time is because her death was meaningful, you want to just throw that away and make her just another "fake out death"? This is why we can't have nice things, people all want everyone to survive and yet it's the stories LIKE FFVII, or GOT, where people actually die, and death matters, that stay with people, but you want to make FFVII just another forgetful happy end. And after she lives, what then? Are you going to bring Zack back in this timeline as well? Or are we going to have her sit by herself and watch as Cloud regains his memories and starts dating Tifa? What's the actual end goal here?

@@DutchDread You still have the original game if you prefer the outcome of that story. It's not going anywhere. And the remake is not a remaster but a continuation of that story. There's no need to repeat the same outcome. Aerith deserves a happy ending. If other characters can make it then she should too. We (Aerith / Clerith / Zerith) fans love Aerith for many reasons - but her dead (sacrificial lamb trope) was a story event forced upon us - not something players could influence, not something Aerith wanted, and not something that made us fall in love with her character more but made us mourn for her. Because at that point, we were already in love with her, we already made her the strongest party member and we have also chosen her for the romantic date night with Cloud. What came after was a tragic revenge story robbed of all joy. Witcher 3 for example gave you a choice. They didn't sacrifice Triss or Yennefer just to make you feel grief. And it wouldn't have made the story better. And you also would not repeat the same mistakes (bad ending) in a second playthrough (or in real-life for that matter, if you had the chance to save your loved one from a tragic event). The FF7 Remake is that second playthrough / chance. We had the bad ending in FF7 - and I'm now longing for a good ending. Or one that is the sum of our decisions. If you can't appreciate Aerith's presence and this new story, without wishing for the same bad things to happen anew, then I really don't know what to say. Sure, the best stories are also quite emotional - but it's also lazy, uninteresting and cheap to repeat the exact same events and deaths. The movie groundhog day also wouldn't be a great movie had it not offered interesting twists and a good closure. Same with Nier Automata, Nier, Bioshock, Drakengard 3 etc. (In regards to their B, C and D endings and the choices made.) Sure, there's also the possibility to mess things up. But I much prefer to see them try than repeat the same outcome. And part one to me is already a masterpiece - simply because it offers exactly that: More Aerith, new twists and the possibility of a better/new ending. (And an amazing combat system :D). And it was also a very emotional game experience for me, as it kept playing with my memories / feelings. So I really want that pay off - that our struggle will result in her life being saved.

FFVII is not just the game, but also the impact it has on the world. The tropes, the ideas, the stories, everything, it doesn't end at the game. And more than that, as soon as you admit that context matters, you have to admit that you can change things by changing context. If I sequel tells me the original was all a dream, or that a character was lying all the time, that changes the original. I can't watch harry potter and the philosophers stone without knowing why Snape is and why he does what he does. I can't, the version of that story where he's just a bully is dead to me. I know Gandalf returns as gandalf the white, the story where Gandalf dies in the first movie is dead to me. The characters in remake are the same characters, what is revealed about them impacts how I interpret what happens in the OG. I don't lie to myself, I follow canon. So if a character is not who I thought he was, then he no longer is that in the OG either. If the OG gets impact from the inevitability of death, then the revelation that death is infact reversible strips that emotional impact from me while playing the OG. Am I supposed to cry about Biggs dying in the OG? He's either still alive, or he's alive in some other version of reality, so who cares? Am I supposed to cry at the end of Crisis Core? It's just one of many realities and I can just pick whichever one I like. How does this not change the OG? In what way do I still have the OG? Sure, the ones and zeros remain but that's just the physical embodiment of the game, the real game, the story, the lessons, they're all gone. And if this remake is not a remake, but instead something else, will I ever get a remake that does match up to what I've dreamed of seeing? No, this is probably it, this is what we're gonna be stuck with, so not only have I lost the original story, I've also lost the potential of experiencing this story in a modern format. The difference between 1997 and 2020 isn't just a slight upgrade in graphics, it's an entirely different medium, as drastic a change as from mute black and white movies to modern HD. And yes, stories that stay in the past, die there, there is a reason I barely know anyone whose played FFVII these days, and it's the same reason I don't know anyone who watches mute black and white films, including me, meaning that even if I wanted to experience that story, or share it with my friends, the outdated nature makes even that difficult. So how is it not dead? How is it not dead when I can't share it with my friends, or when I can't experience the story without the graphics lessening my immersion? Now don't get me wrong, I don't think we're there yet with remake, aside from the whispers I think the remake is perfect, exactly what I wanted, and I think the whispers are mostly there to justify the necessary changes they'll need to make in order to adapt the original story in a modern format, so this isn't an attack on the remake itself (yet). But it is an attack on the concept that the OG will always exist, it's a meaningless statement, because for all intents and purposes, it won't, it's a lie.

I think the Aerith in the dream, is the original FF7 character reaching out to Cloud. While she does care for him, and vice versa, she knows that messing with the timeline may end up setting everyone on a darker course, which she does not want. She wants all of her friends to be happy. That is not to say that she is unwilling to pursue a romance, but she does know that her and Cloud's happiness comes at the expense of Tifa/Zack's.

Weather you a drink or not Tifa still gives you the Cosmo Canyon and Cloud says Beautiful. I do not even know if choosing does anything because indid everything to get Aerith except I said Tofa is in good shape and I still got Tifa.

First is describing Tifa to Sam and the second is when Madem M says Aeriths cloths are plain. I have always chosen Tifa in the sweres because hers option is better.

June angelus, I absolutely agree, they need to let Aerith live this time, let the players be able to get her to her max level and full potential. The only thing I hate about the original was Aeris’s death, I’ve never cried so much while playing a game. it still brings tears to my eyes, we just cannot go through that again, it’s just way too sad and painful.

Her death is what pushes Cloud over the edge and ends up giving Sephiroth the Black Materia as well as she summons Holy which combines with Meteor to wipe out the human race. @@davidcrist9021 she will most likely die cause honestly that is her only contribution to the game. They may find other ways but if she does not die FF7 loses its biggest impact of the games themes that would just turn it into a generic RPG. For me her death is just important to Clouds chracter arvh as I have nerve felt it is that impactful on the story as after it her death plays little in the story until the end of the game. I guess it is how you see it, but by the end I all but forget about her and focuse more on Tifa and Cid

Yes I have played both! And I haven’t played or watched The Witcher, but it sounds like I should! And yes I loved Ellie and Joel, I cried about what happened to Joel.
