How much of the original game is actually in the remake. AKA if we place it on disk basis am I getting 1 disk from the original or 2 or so on. I get there is extra content and such. However story wise how much is told compared to the old games
So this game got postponed and landed on my brother's birthday. He passed away two years ago and Final Fantasy 7 was his favorite game growing up and he would play about every 2 or 3 years. Unfortunately the last time he was playing it he never got to finish and was taken from this world too early. I still have his PS4 and when I turn it on it plays Aerith's theme song and I cry every time. He was so excited to play this game and he never got to experience it, so I'm going to be experiencing it for him. I took vacation days for this. I'm ready.
I know it well how it feel. My brother and I hyped so much. After 10 years skipping consoles game, we got PS4 for the first time just before FF7R released. We managed to finish this FF7R together. But then he suddenly passed away. This pandemic year is really something
@@fabledorchid8410 Ofc. I understand and respect their decision. We dont want another Fallout 76 scam. But even if the game wasnt perfect and a little bit buggy, I would still spend hundreds of hours enjoying this upcoming masterpiece. I have never been this excited for a video game ever so waiting is extremely painful esp. nowadays.
It still could be released during quarantine. There are still a lot of peoplel not taking it seriously. That will totally make it take longer then we previously thought.
As a healthcare worker who hasn't had a day off in 3 weeks I have to say I'm anxiously awaiting my copy. But I've waited 15 years whats another few days. Thank you young for giving us a sneak peek
Remembering watching Advent Children and asking "i wish i could play with Cloud at this level of detail". And here we are, never thought that this day will come true.
@@huskytzu7709 It's a good game. The writing is good for the most part, the gameplay is nice. I find the weapon customization a bit tedious. And the ending is kinda.... eh. I could have done without the whispers, or the battle against fate. Seems a little too kingdom hearts. I can recommend the game. It's not perfect, but it's a lot of fun. Probably one of the better games I've played in the last three years.
@Shadow Equinox im interested because there's going to be a lot of new story ala 7 approximate hours of gameplay expanded to over 40. Not a fan of cliff hangers, however.. I may wait as well so I don't have to wait a year and change between installments
A few things to consider with the development time, the first two years of development after it was announced was wasted because SE didn't like the work provided by Cyber Connect 2 and thus parted with them, and up until early last year Director Tetsuya Nomura was split between this and Kingdom Hearts 3, both developed in separate studios in completely different cities, and according to some reports he spent most of his time on KH3. So if Nomura-san sticks with just this, and the transition to the PS5 isn't too technically difficult, I think it's not too optimistic to say we might be looking at a development time of 2 years. Side note: man, I remember when the two year wait between Xenosaga 1 and 2 was unbearable, and thinking the series must have been cancelled. And it's crazy to think, by today's game development standards, that FF6, one of the fan favorites in the series, was developed and released in only one year.
omegagilgamesh sure but back then you could make ff6 with jpg backgrounds and midi soundtracks. Now you need entire orchestras and 4k ray traced lighting particle effects. I hope it's a year or two as well but knowing their track record I'm not going to be holding my breath.
To be fair... They started development of part 2 a while back now so that 2 year time could turn out to be very accurate 🤞😁 they seem to be trying to give a truly quality product with this so any reasonable wait time is acceptable, to me 🙂
Not really, the entire main story for FF7 original is somewhere between 30 to 40 hours. The meat of the hours of my playthroughs usually consist of Chocobo breeding
i'm actually happy the AI is dumb. so sick of barely having any fun doing anything in action rpgs when the AI obliterates everything before i pick a target.
Whaaaaat? Nomura, the guy who supposedly wanted to scrap Final Fantasy 15’s design progress and turn it into a musical because he watched _Les Miserables_ made the ending of the remake “unnecessarily complicated” in a way that could make things difficult going forward? That’s just silly!
Nicholas Marashio It was yes, to Hajime Tabata. _After_ that rumored ridiculousness. And he no longer works at Square, as a matter of fact. Allegedly because OF Nomura.
Here's part of the reason I think they did this: There aren't many good moments after leaving Midgar to end future episodes on. The only place I can think of are the City of the Ancients (which is a long ways off from leaving Midgar) and the return to Midgar (which is basically right before the final dungeon so you might as well include the final dungeon in that episode.) This is basically an excuse to starting making shit up if they need to to ensure they can keep decompressing the game, while ensuring each episode has a proper beginning, middle and end. And as for why it's technically a sequel instead of a remake, well, nobody can complain about them ruining canon when it's a whole new story.
@@MattMillwardUK I didn't hear that, but it's Nomura. The guy sounds like he has ADHD and will basically put ANYTHING in his games if it catches his attention. So he probably watched an episode of "Gravity Falls," saw Mabel and her grappling hook, and said "YES! Put it in there! No, I don't care where, just do it!"
My biggest concern is that, after spending 40+ hours in Midgar, once you get out into the open world and visit other towns, all the other cities you visit may feel underwhelming or we won't see as much development later down the road. Again, they've been silent on about how many parts the entire game will be, but I'm concerned that, if let's say they make it 3 parts, the second and third parts will have to be crammed with too much other content that it will feel rushed or far more bland than the opening Midgar part. Or, worse yet, they start cutting or shortening more content or plots to fit it all in. I mean, if they're expanding Midgar into 40+ hours when it was normally like a 4-5 hours max segment may be a hard bar to live up to. Is everything getting expanded? How big is the Gold Saucer section gonna be? What about the whole section of the game when Yuffie steals your materia and you chase after her and you get the whole segment in Wutai with the Turks and Don Corneo? Is there gonna be Chocobo breeding/racing? There are a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. So I'll be getting the game, but I'm tempering my hype and expectations. This is going to be a very hard game for them to ace and really get a slam dunk of a product. And "lofty expectations" doesn't seem to describe it well enough.
To be fair, Midgar is the biggest city in the FFVII universe so of course that the other cities and towns won't be as big or as memorable. However the City of the Ancients and the Golden Saucer MUST be big.
I finished replaying the original last week and I must say, there's a lot of content that isn't fit for a 2020 cinematic AAA game, also plenty of parts weren't adding much to the story or fun from gameplay. I won't mind if in this remake they'd do something completely different and new, keeping the best inspirations from the origninal, as long as the quality of it will be good.
@Just Another Guy Because of sidequests, is my quess. I assume they did add some cutscenes that involved characters, but nothing that meaningful except seeing more of them before they die later. That would have a point, but I doubt that total time would exceed 20 minutes unless cutscenes with dialogue. Other than that, a large amount of sidequests. It would be weird if this had mini-games since that would only make sense for Gold Saucer to break the pacing like that, not each part they release.
@@EdgarFriendlysCivicsTeacher I know you are joking, but the team now has a lot of full assets and a graphics processor ready to use so I see the next game coming sooner than the first part.
@Shadow Equinox Oh, how burdensome it is to accumulate 60 dollars in my bank account within the next 2-3 years, for a game that's at least 30 hours long... waaaaaaahhh.
@YongYea - congratulations on hitting a million subs man! Don't know how I missed it when it happened. It really makes me happy when genuinely great channels like yours get the recognition they deserve. Keep on kicking ass and stay safe out there.
Aerith's fate is okay, once you realize who she really loved before Cloud. Once I played Crisis Core, thinking about Cloud and Aerith together was like: "Ewww Cloud, bro, come on... friends don't do that".
@@princessjupiter922 I'm prepared to be shown incorrect but what I've heard of the reshuffling of events really lessens the pacing of the original. The truth about Cloud comes as a pay off to a slow burning mystery, if that's ruined then that's a huge deal breaker for me. But I didn't like advent children, crisis core or dirge of doodar so I very well may not be in the majority.
@@EdgarFriendlysCivicsTeacher I'm with you on Advent Children, Crisis Core, and Dirge. I feel they change the feel of characters and major plot points from the original. The "expansions" to the game i feel change it for the worst but hey im in the minority there.
Many people (mostly those who didn't play the Remake) say that this game is a cashgrab and that the developers dragged the story. However, if you play roughly 1 hour you'll see that this isn't the case; they flesh out characters and settings in a very satisfying manner, expanding/changing plotlines vaguely implied in the original and even adding brand new ones. I'm clocking over 15 hours and I'm having a blast so far. You can really see the attention to detail in every nook and cranny, ranging from small banners with easter eggs to the recreation of music pieces (which there is a lot given that the game employs a delicious dynamic sountrack). I'm kinda ok with the game being episodic, because if it wasn't, they wouldn't been able to add this much depth and develop each character as much as they did. If future episodes will continue to do that, I'm fine with that. I particularly cannot wait to see places like Cosmo Canyon and Wutai getting this kind of treatment. Also, I completely agree with this Yakuza comparison (16:21). Wall Market in particular, reminded me A LOT of Kamurocho, and many silly moments feels like they came straight from Yakuza. I fucking love it.
I'm all for this idea of breaking it into chapters. The only concern I have is what will happen if the company suddenly stops making the rest of the series? We are not guaranteed the company will complete this story. I dont want it to end up like shenmue, but I cant help but think that this can happen.
Zph it’s not even square as a whole, it’s just nomura, and to a lesser extent, motomu toriyama. Like, square gave us nier automata and dragon quest 11, it’s just nomura who gave us FFXV and the entirety of the kingdom hearts story. Final Fantasy hasn’t really worked since Sakaguchi left, and the implications of ff7r’s ending are a perfect encapsulation as to why. Nomura can make good setpieces but can’t write a story, he’s too obsessed with time traveling and defying destiny and other pretentious nonsense, I think the idea of a relatively grounded (keyword: relatively) story like classic ff7 is too boring to him.
@Lady Wander capcom made Re fans re2 remake and it was up for game for the year. The original remake of re1 is a master piece. RE3 is just meh leaving out some parts, though the game was mostly outsourced. They made it in a year basically, with little push behind it. Still if you love re you'll have some fun. FF7 on the other is a major release with many many years into it. Hope its good, but hearing some mixed news. we'll see
Regardless of whether I like a Final Fantasy or not (and I really liked FFVIIR) I always respect the incredible amount of work that is put into the games.
It would be a MASSIVE blow to the games as a whole if items / levels didn't carry over. I don't think they would fuck it up THAT badly. I'm sure there will be things we all wish were in, like AI customization, but no save-file carryover would be a bridge too far.
@@clytcommander1057 Pretty sure they did this with FF4 After Years, when it was still coming out episode at a time. 50 seems like it will be the cap, I'm assuming
there's NO endgame, level cap is 50 but it's actually 32-35 because that's where you are when you finish the story, and when you do it's over. Be honest guys, dont start with the bullshit, game ends when credits roll. That Chapter Selection+hardmode is fucking bullshit. No Ultima Weapons, no secret bosses (except for that VR summons crap), no exploration (just corridors after corridors), fast travel is pointless and also busted, side quests are flat out stupid and repetitive. Is this what you call a 9/10 game? For fucking real?
Locking summons behind pre-orders and that it is not even the first CD is disappointing. The Materia system also seems dumbed down significantly. I rather would have waited 5 more years to get the whole thing, but SE gotta recoup that money, from all those mismanaged games. Probably going to get the PC version when it releases a year from now, I can deal with blurry textures but not 30fps.
LOL a year you say? You act like we are still living in a time where everyone is working and going about their day. Dude, NO PORTS are going to come in the foreseeable future. This timed exclusive just got a little bit longer. The fact that nobody has even been giving the green light to work on the ports is troubling. Tho porting takes nowhere near as long as actual development, they might not even green light until the year is up and even if they've already have in secret, it aint being worked on now. Last of Us 2, tho "complete" is on hold indefinitely and all they had left was iron out bugs. I am guessing Cyberpunk is going to be held back too, there is only so much one can do from home and not working as a team with in the same space.
While I was questioning it at first, I can accept the fact at how it stops at the end of the Midgar arc. Only thing I might be concerned about is the bit of story change you mentioned.
With the whole aspects of those ghosts (not spoiler since SE has shown them off) that flys around i think it suits the story alot. I just wished they would have kept some story beats more the same like the OG in the fact that they do show us some things to much imo. Im guessing you know what im talking about since it looks like u have completed the game aswell.
@@Drakengard65 I did plenty of the original, but not the remake. I can justify some of the change though mostly on things were still rather limited 20 years ago. Having more capable technology means you can expand the story and remake the story in what the developers originally wanted it to be. It's kind of like what Kojima did with his MGS remake. He kind of expanded the scene into what he really wanted it to be.
Apparently it’s far beyond a bit. It sounds like going forward we’re talking KH lite level story telling. It is Nomura in charge so I can see where it came from. Not sure how I feel about it currently.
I think it will be a trilogy with Part 2 covering the rest of Disc 1 and Part 3 covering the rest of the game. My brother and I were talking about this a few days ago and we agreed that it will be a disservice not having the Forgotten City as the climax of that part. Wondering how the WEAPON fights will play out though
There's a part of me that actually wants them to push all the way to the Northern Crater for the end of part 2. The forgotten city is obviously iconic, but starting Part 3 with Meteor looming in the distance for the entire game would be SO strong
@@rogthepirate4593 Yet, we can base it off the fact Square took Midgar, 4-5 hours, and made it an entire game. Midgar isn't even a quarter of the original: it's less. Anyone who thinks the full game will be just 3 Parts needs to wake up.
I look this remake like a reimagination, more than an upgrade from the original, a new way to experience FF7, knowing that the old good FF7 for PS1 is still being one of the best ganes ever made.
Jesus Javier Amavisca Valenzuela A spin off of sorts... an action focused one like the one on the psp with the bad fighting roulette design, Crisis core or something.
Fans made the original in HD a few years ago with both character models and graphics looking amazing, you just have to add a few mods here and there but you get the original experience much better than this remake. Give it a go, you'll thank me later.
So I watched this review a few months ago, as I was interested in the FF7R, but had never played FF7 before (or any other FF game besides FF13). It looked awesome but I had no context vs. the OG. I just watched this review again, because I finally played some FF7 for the first ever last week (for a few hours, thanks to the weekly Xbox Game Pass quest for it), and wanted to compare after finally experiencing a taste of the original. I gotta say, for me the original DOES live up to the hype; it can be kinda difficult to get into a near-24 year old game, having zero nostalgia or experience from before being spoiled by 2 decades of games evolution, but immediately I was gripped, and genuinely enjoyed every moment I played so far, and quickly looked past the dated, but still impressive, visuals. They still hold up really well I think, even though the game is 3/4 as old as I am, and I definitely can see how impressive this would have been to experience 20 years ago. I already did want to play the remake, but I think I would rather finish the original first, as I think the OG would be harder to go back to if started playing the modernly-beautiful remake. The only problem is, I have a tendency to start games, and then take a very very long time to get back to them. Sometimes years even; but I guess there's no rush, and by then maybe the entire FF7 remake series will be available in one package together.
I won't mention spoilers, as I'm one of those that played the game 10 days early and have already finished it, but the ending I was very intrigued onto how it will be expanded upon. I understood what it said for the most part and understood what was at work. I also understood the symbolism of it all. What the devs are saying with that last chapter. And I loved it. It's new and excites me to see how they'll take it further in the next part. :)
So as someone else that played it I have to ask. Do you also think the ghost janitors are basically a metaphor for angry fans who don't like story elements to be changed? Since basically their whole job is to make sure the timeline doesn't get altered too much.
@@SeruraRenge11 I do, and our actions as the player is to break free of that. The Arbiters of Fate are the will of the planet itself, in this new lore. Red said it himself when he got his vision snippet at the end. "That is what will happen if we fail here." If Cloud and the rest fail to move past the ghosts, then the story will continue along the original timeline. If you as the player, get to the end and say, 'This is bull. How dare they change the original like this.' and stop playing, or give up on the remake after finishing it, then you return to the og version within the compilation. However, I feel like the ghosts represent ALL the fanbase, not just the angry mobs. Because some have been responsible for changes. Wedge surviving, for example. As well as Biggs probably. The ghosts kept Wedge in that spot right as the plate came down on him. Initially I thought it was to make sure he died like in the original, but I think it was because the ghosts knew that spot was a weak spot between the surface and the underground lab. Either that, or it was a stroke of luck that he survived, but then the ghosts would try to prevent Cloud and others from rescuing him. A lot of theorizing, but yes, I believe they are seen as the fans that don't want the story to change at all, if not the entire fanbase. But I still embrace what comes next. I loved the metaphor used. It also wasn't convoluted, though the faceoff against Sephiroth at the veeeery end and what was said does intrigue me to see what comes of it in the next game or future installments.
@@commanderkitsune8524 shame that you know, what it's being changed to is shit. Also I prefer the term ghost janitors because that's what they're there to do, clean up Nomura's mess.
I’m really curious how the remaining chapter(s) will play out moving forward... like, are you going to start out with a fresh save? Is your save data going to transfer over? How is that even going to work with next-gen on the horizon? It’s going to be really weird, I fear. Some kinda Mass Effectian style recap where you make various choices and pick options to better suit your previous save data? Or are they just going to wipe the slate for the next chapter(s)? Have they even officially stated how many more releases there are? The general consensus I’ve heard is 3 chapters, one for each disc... but who knows 🤷🏻♂️
Cyberpunk 2077: breath taking Final fantasy 7: just as breath taking Holy shit square you fucking nailed it with this one, and to think of all the may Sayers who claimed "the magic of final fantasy would never return" with final fantasy 7 thoes may Sayers have been finally been silenced
with the way the story goes, the nay sayers were right. Square completely destroyed the story of the original here, which is what made the original legendary.
@@malibutaa eh true or not I think people have to accept that things change even games I mean I always keep in mind that the team that originally made FF7 most likely isn't around anymore (if I'm wrong feel free to correct me) so if the ending is different as you say then eh I would just say get used to it of accept what you payed for I mean 8f you bought FF7 then honestly I you spend good money on a damn good game regardless of wether you agree or disagree with it's ending

Personally I'll be holding out for the "Complete Edition" that will probably come to PC later on down the road... Not a huge fan of episodic releases. I do however hope those who have waited for this enjoy it during these difficult times. Thanks for the review Yong.
You'll be waiting at least 6 years then, because this is not an episodic game; this is a series of multiple full length games that are being developed separately. It's better to just pay $60 every 2 or 3 yeats and play each game while its still relevant rather than having to drop $180 all at once and nobody will be talking about it anymore.
@@Jenema2 Sorry but the original game came out as one full length sit down and play through... breaking up in separate releases does make it "episodic". I like being able to play games all the way through personally. I completely understand if others will enjoy playing it as each individual release. Just not for me. Also for me the game does not need to still be talked about for me to buy it. Just as a note I have a PS4 Pro, but I will wait it out for either PS5 if the complete edition comes there or to PC just depends. If you are getting it I hope you enjoy :)
@@Jenema2 I have 400 games on Steam... A six-year wait is no problem, especially since I don't trust SE to finish a game after FFXV. Besides, I already have the full FFVII game already. I've had it since I was a kid. No need for a remake. I had zero hype for this. Would I like to play it? Sure. Would I like to play a full version of the REMAKE? 100%.
@Shadow Equinox while I understand where you're coming from, I think this is misguided, spoiler alert this is not a straight remake, it changes things, no idea how the 2nd part will go, but if we're gonna go by this logic isn't it "horrible and greedy" for companies to make sequels? Most sequels reuse all the previous games assets and don't change much they may as well be "episodic" in most cases, they maybe add a feature or 2 if that, sure there's some exceptions but still, and you seem to talk about as if they're withholding content from you, they're not sitting there with the whole game there already made and only selling you part of it, it's not a scummy fighting game model, they are still working on part 2 I'm sure, they wanted to expand the story, they could have done it exactly like the original but they didn't want to and felt it deserved more than that, conceptually that isn't a bad thing, you talked about 180$? Yea sure 2-3 years from now you might have spent that in total, not all at once, which I'm sure you'd piss that money away on other games too anyways, this "part 1" is a 30 hour game, most 60 dollar games are barely even 10 hours if that
My dad, when i was 8 years old in 1997 said if you can read this strategy guide you can play the game. I remember over years and years of replaying this game, that there's just so much story, and passion and art that went into this game. I love some of the other ff7 games, but this one was the first one I fell in love with. It holds a very special place in my heart, and in 2015 when I saw the trailer for this game being remade, I legit went back to my 7 year old self, had some tears of joy and toasted with some friends. It's amazing how things like music and games bring us together through storytelling and adventures. I can't wait until we all get to play this, and for a little while get lost back in time and have fun playing this incredible game and looking forward to the next parts in the future. Been rough on all of us here lately, one of my younger brothers died, my grandma died, and then a close family friend died just recently in january, and now we're dealing with this virus, I wish everyone health and happiness as we journey back into this story. much love.
Calling it now for all the FF7 vets, it’ll be a Mass Effect style 3 part continuing save file Part 1 is intro to escaping Midger Part 2 will be Kalm, getting the group together, City of Ancients, ending with Northern Crater shenanigans Part 3 will be Junon escape, WEAPONS, and mainly side quest padding till end.
Going to play this with my cousin and younger brother (my older brother has a life.. with 4 kids stinking up his place and causing chaos, so he can't tag along.. even if he was the one I really did play the game with originally back in the late 90's) this coming weekend. I am looking forward to it so damn much. I don't mind some changes in the story as long as the key fragments remain. Though I am saddened that I won't be seeing Cid Highwind before god knows how long. I don't want to watch too much of this review in order to save up some of the minor moments that really do make up the whole experience.
"some changes" Buckle up homestuck, because you're in for a ride. It's a story about time-travelling ghosts there to try and keep people from fucking up the timeline in what's obviously an alternate universe, pseudo sequel/reboot rather than a remake. And Sephiroth is like....the same one from the original game trying to fuck everything up so Cloud can't kill him at the end of disk 3 in this timeline. You may think I'm bullshitting you, but you'll see. You'll think I'm crazy then remember this comment after playing and go "jesus he was actually telling the truth"
Got up to sector 7 slums a couple of days ago and noticed some significant texture and model quality drops. I assume this is an issue that should be solved with the day 1 patch so I've stopped playing until the official release.. it hurts to see it sat on my shelf, but if these issues get fixed on day 1, it will be worth the wait.
Square Enix has spent years trying to merge active time battles with real time combat. They sort of did this with the MMO'S XI and XIV. FFXII had active time battles except you move about. FFXIII and FFXII-2 was an odd attempt to make the combat look cinematic, but ended up playing itself with you switching Job classes. The Kingdom Hearts games are a hack and Slash type affair with some spells from a command menu thrown into the mix. (Edit. Forgot to mention FFXV. I hear it is a full on action game). So has Final Fantasy VII Remake has finally come up with a system that works by building off what they've done in previous games? To be honest, I like the idea of having stuff to do whilst I'm waiting for my gauge to fill.
I could not agree more. I loved FF13-2 and you are right. Square Enix has been trying to reinvent the ATB with real time combat for years now. Why are people overlooking this aspect
Just finished all 18 chapters and i can agree on most of yong points i also wanted some customization for the AI for your companions like yong said something like they focus on healling or be more defensive, also the combat as a 1 on 1 is really nice the problem comes especially when you are 1 vs 2 or more enemies you get destroyed xD and finally the end i personally liked it but i also was like ok wtf is this and how is gona play along further in the story but for that we gona have to wait, for me it took me 50h (i got the game on april 7) to finish the game on normal (not to mention that im planing on doing it on hard now that i got it unlocked) so if every chapter is going to deliver the same gametime i have no problem paying 60€, for a comparison RE3 it gave me 30h of gameplay and it cost me the same money so yeah i recomend this game to everyone there are sooo many moments i wanted to see from the original and it delivered and for newcomers you will be mindblown.
YongYea, FF7 Remake also unnecessarily pads out this first installment in a larger story with too much downtime between its most striking moments. Why didn't you include that?
A lot of people and reviewers who finished the game are saying the ending is atrocious and a let down. That really lowered my hype big time, but I'll still buy it while steeling myself for the worst ending possible, whatever that may be.
As someone who was spoiled on the ending, it's... well, I honestly don't know how to feel about it. I really don't. It isn't faithful to the original, that's for damn sure. I would absolutely temper your expectations for it. If it ends up being your thing, great. If not though, you'll be happy you weren't overhyped. Still, I hear the rest of the game leading up to it is phenomenal.
This game brought back so many memories, and refreshed perfectly. I dont really play much solo games now, but I made an exception for this. Wasn't disappointed.
I honestly don't blame the splitting into parts, the original 7 had a TON of content. so much so that it kept you busy for weeks if you wanted to do everything, Chocobo raising, racing, the optional materia side quests, the weapon fights and ultimate weapons quests, etc. This is quite possibly, depending on what they decide to cut will be their biggest game to date. just a question of how many parts is there.
Well from what it seems they did with the story it doesn't look like I am going to be buying this at all. I mean WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK SE?! WHY COULDN'T YOU KEEP THE STORY THE WAY IT IS!!! So many people are not going to buy the 2nd part because of what they did to the story. This is like a fanfiction version of FF7 with a high budget.
Ryan Navin FF7 was my favorite Final Fantasy game... now it’s FF7 Remake. The ending was a bit strange, but it’s still a good setup to establish Sepiroth as a serious threat for the sequels.
@@ramigilneas9274 Yeah I can't get it though too short, too much of the game not there. I'll just be mad when its over from wanting to play the next part. I want to play it all in one big giant marathon. Imagine waiting until all the parts are out and then playing them all back to back. That's how I want to experience it.
@Johannes Nagengast @ Dark Misstrust true. I kinda don't remember FFXIII that much cause I only played like 1/3 of it. Thought at the time it was too linear and combat was meh.
There are so many recycled systemsn from ff12, 13, 15, and kingdom hearts. I'm surprised they didnt ad some form of ganbitn system to. Young seams to wish there was one.
@@Zephhi Not necessarily ruin, Square have stated before that they'd change certain aspects of the game, and that this remake will keep certain things the same, but may change others.
VergilHilts Yes. I saw a leak saying there would be alternate timelines and shit but it could’ve been fake. They leaked the Zack scene but he could’ve played through it himself and made up the rest of it. I believed him for that reason. Hoping the Zack scene at the end was just a flashback. Gotta wait to see
@@Zephhi There are scenes which are not clear about if it is a timeline thing or not because of the narrative tool that does not properly explain what the keepers of fate and challenging them truly will result in. They will not change the big things anyway in the next titles. And yes, Zack scenes are flashbacks.
Yakusoku no Ji Ok good. This leak has been spreading and making people think it’s true because the info about Zack was correct. So the Keepers of Fate do stuff but we have no proof as to what they do? That’s good
I totally agree about the combat with the A.I. If they had implemented even just a touch of the gambit system from FF 12 then the combat would flow absolutely perfectly. But I'm still blown away with what they accomplished here.
i got this game a week ago. i done every quest and thing possible and finished it in 33 hours. I also died 3 times in the entire playthrough. At first i felt disappointed but then i remembered the first time i finished ff7 original it toko me 31 hours so yeh. I think even though this game is amazing, knowing its just a small part of the main story you cant help but feel disappointed you have to wait to continue the story for at least a year or 2.
Think of it like the first part in LOTR. Its not like any of those books concluded in a satisfying fashion, at least until the final book. It's a huge, dense plot. There is a lot to go over. It's why we haven't seen old JRPGs remade like this before. It's like converting an epic novel into a movie. If you want it done right, it needs a few movies. Or an entire tv series. Otherwise, shit gets cut - then everyone would be talking about how the original was better.
@@frenchlasagna8138 No. Didn't you hear about it? They are releasing it in multiple parts and haven't even talked about in how many. My personal guess is three.
thats what games are, just look at fortnite? a perpetual episodic release of content to grab your cash lol if I am lucky, by the time this releases on PC there might be a second episode
@@blackwaltz3135 hell i have money put down there will be story dlc too, im not trying to be cynical cause if its met with the same polish i will be happy with it hell i wouldn't be shocked if patches add little things like they did with 15, cause 15 was the test for this model and despite dev hell 15 made them a lot of money despite they doubtless high cost, 15 is also far superior now compared to how it was at launch
As someone who has already beaten and played the game i completely agree with your opinion on the ending Yong. it is very confusing as of now but may make sense eventually that's all i'll say to not spoil anything for anyone.
Just finished it today and instantly started my Chapter Select from the beginning on hard, because it's so good and so much fun that I just wanted to keep going and there is still a bunch of post story optional things to do, so I'm enjoying my time. But yeah, some things might be controversial among fans...I consider VII my favourite FF next to VI and I still am a little on the fence on how things ended, but I'm also interested in seeing where this new approach to the story ends up and plays out. The final stretch of boss battles was a lil too over the top for me though...I got serious Kingdom Hearts vibes there, not bad ones...just like it's not really fitting, but fun and epic nonetheless. Funny to me is though...how no one mentions in their reviews that even small parts of Crisis Core were implemented in the Remake to flesh out Clouds and Zacks backstory in the remake...guess I'm one of the few that actually played Crisis Core and knew what scene was shown in the remake thats taken from Crisis Core 🤣
So... you said nothing about the controversial narrative points that could be problematic for fans. If they could be problematic for us, maybe we should know them now. Maybe you could make a spoiler version of this if that's the problem for you talking about it.
I’ll tell you straight up: there is some alternate timeline bullshit. Makes it seem like a fan fiction. Not surprised though, since Tetsuya Nomura is director.
@@Zephhi This has nothing to do with an alternate timeline necessarily. The keepers make it feel like that at points but the concept is implemented way too ambigious too tell what it is. It has a bit of that touch though.
Lol I bet you're the same guy who was screaming at IGN and GameSpot for "falsely advertising" because they didn't spoil the entire plot in their reviews.
@@Jenema2 It's been pretty 'falsely advertised' as a 'remake', you dipshit. And if you're going to pretend those connotations suddenly don't mean what they do in everyday parlance, you're a massive shill. It was labeled 'remake', people expected some kind of re-imagining. Not a continuation through time travel or alternate timeline stuff. The whole POINT of this being advertised as such, and the whole point SE going out of their way to censor and block people who were streaming their street legal copies early was so this would be a 'surprise'. The fallout will be forthcoming.
Wow yong yea is actually being positive about something and not overly completely nitpicking or acting like Fox News trying to attack and beat the dead horse of old news from bethesda or EA etc. good to see the deliberate sensical journalist
I had an incredible time with FF7 Remake as well. It was soooooooo good! Combat, music, story. Everything seems to shape up to be what seems like a perfect adaptation of the midgar section. Then the ending happened, which left me very disappointed, but I'm also keen to see what Square does next with this series.
@@mikeehrmantraut1899 10/10 easily. The ending sure came as a surprise but I love it. And yes, the game isn't perfect (texture issues / the level design being a tad too straightforward / some balancing aspects) but I still enjoyed the game more than any other videogame before - in regards to the characters, emotional (and also new) story events, the music, worldbuilding, graphics and combat/gameplay (NG+). It has everything I love about videogames and nothing of the things I hate / dislike / got tired of. Also; no microtransactions, no open world, no games as a service and always online bs, no grinding, no bugs (I at least had none), the right amount of side activities, no bs trophies and no bs multiplayer (RE3). But that's just my point of view. ^^
Bob Barker You'll probably have to start from scratch with only the items getting transfered from one save to another (or maybe level 99 won't be the maximum in the following games and you can reach level 200 in the second game and 300 in the third). They better use one of those or the next release might be a broken game...
@@Heroinedown yeah, thats the only ways i see this workin out. I think i'll be waiting for the next episode to buy it.. i've waited all these years i think i can wait 1 or 2 more lol
@@bobincognito they could do it like the .hack games max level was set lower first game was like level 30 with full carry over. 2nd game was 50 or 60. 3rd was 80 and 4th was 100. have been playing video games since i was 6 years old (1987 or so) and this game was the first game to make me cry. has a special place in my heart, and after playing it i knew that games were the way of the future. looking forward to seeing it in a new glorius light. thanks for the honest review, nice vid :D
One of the best AI systems I've deal with in a game was FFXII. I LOVED the gambit system. Been able to set the characters to do very specific things or use specific heals on buff when I want them. Without having to do it manually every single time. They could keep an eye on stuff I wasn't, like some status or someone's health got too low. Or having them casing buff when they wear off. To attack the same enemy as you or another. People liked to hate on the gambits, which is why I think Square won't ever used them again.
the gambit system was one of them best systems in ff considering that you couldnt controll all characters attacks and so on like you could in ff7, 8, 9 and 10 and 10-2
totally agree that the combat could have been better & give more customizations. As expected, exactly what I said about the demo, especially when it comes to likeliness of micro-managing in a more chaotic battles. Gambit system/party behavior system & manual character positioning would be a tremendous improvements for the game combat system, especially for people that really meticulous in their tactical/strategy encounters. Also, still very disappointed that classic mode is basically auto attack easier mode instead of a proper Tactical TBS RPG mode. Very weird 'cause SE already has plenty of exp with modernized TBS combat in recent years with their very successful games (DQXI, Octopath Traveler, etc). Just imagine if the TBS mode is like Octopath Traveler or something more complex/better, Trails series/ToCS games.
I cant wait for someone to mod the PC version to implement a real turn based mode. Also, manual positioning to deal side or back damage would have been great in a turn based game, kinda like the Xenoblade games, which uses a MMOstyle ATB/cool down system like FFXII.
Yeah, demo didn't sell me. Combat wasn't deep enough and everything from the story to the boss battles felt needlessly bloated. I'll still play it because I'm a sucker for FF and despite hating 13 and 15 I'm gullible enough to keep giving this series the benefit of the doubt.
@@chowdaire7343 if you havent, check out FFXIV, it is actually really good, especially Shadowbringers. ARR may be a bit of a slog for a new player, but it lays down important ground work in world building.
@@keiichimorisato98 Idk what kind of things that the modders need to do for such an overhaul but I am totally hoping for it (still also need to wait for PC version). SE actually still have the opportunity to change things up via patches & etc if I am being honest. I mean this is just episode 1 game too.
@Animemaster51 Well, guess I'll find out. Like I said, I'm buying this game regardless but SE doesn't know how to make compelling real time action based combat to save their lives
Also for the combat part ennemy IA are dumb too. They always attack the player. Just switch characters you will see the ennemy following you on every switch even your ally are low health. Best way to tank but a nightmare if you want to play squishy characters... That's bad design imo and the ally are dumb you need to control manually everything which is not very compatible with action game, they barely attack so the atb fill very slowly and they don't use skills either. You need to have some sort of strategy to chose like the "tales of" series so you can play and enjoy the combat more. Here we have some sort of weird hybrid not really working well. I spend more time switching than playing. This game feels unpolish + they call it remake when it's a reboot which is confusing and if you buy it for the original story you will be dissapointed like me. The story is lazy but characters developement are good I agree.
Well i'm glad too not being alone. I think i'm the only one to see this game as a bad game. This game doesn't deserve the hype. It blinds people I don't know why
Glad you enjoyed it, but I think I am gonna wait for a sale. $60 to just run around Midgar doesn't interest me personally. I'll pick it (and probably the future installments) up once they hit $20 a piece or wait for the complete box set
Why did I watch this? Now I want to play it more than ever, but as a PC gamer I might now have chance to do that. And even if I do I might have to wait several years for it to arrive on other platforms. TT_TT
@Animemaster51 Is it really that bad as people say it is? (no spoilers though) I mean isn't this just the 1st chapter out from all 3 chapters, so there's more to come. Or is the ending so bad that it ruins the expectations for Chapter 2 & 3?
I am open to whatever changes to the story have been made. I still have the original. One the pandemic is over, I am ordering the remake part 1. Reviews seem positive, so it looks like it will be worth the wait.
Hearing that the story takes a "left turn" at the end has me very worried. I'm still really excited about the game coming out, but I'm really worried about Tetsuya Nomura doing Tetsuya Nomura things (Read: Kingdom Hearts levels of convoluted -- bad -- writing).
No left turns buddy, he just shat on the franchise. Save your fucking money, trust me. I mean if I had a one-time travel machine I'd use it to save mine. I fucking hate that Nomura prick. How on Earth he was given the right to direct FF7 still baffles me. He must hold some kind of power over there, which has nothing to do with his talent (cause he's got NONE), otherwise it has no logical explanation
The villains in Midgar are supposed to be "mustache-twirly"... For obvious reasons. And that is why it was only 7 hours. I really hope I get to play this some day, it looks like I would probably cry.
Sigh I just don't like action RPGs so I won't be playing this until it's on sale a year or 2 from now. Got bored with hacking and slashing and dodging games after God of War 2 but I've been playing turn based RPGs for about 20 years now.
@@ThepurposeofTime Classic mode is easy mode though. I am disappointed at that myself. Why would they fake put it in there and not let us play classic mode at a normal difficulty. Also classic mode is we don't control attacking and defending its automated. It's apparent it was thrown in to try and calm down people complaining it isn't turn based.
They literally shat on their fan base and people are opening their mouths... This game is NOT turn based, not even remotely. Those who say otherwise have never played strategy games before.
Honestly, if you are going into the game industry (making games). Treat Enix as a rival. Gameplay: great. Graphic: amazing. Storytelling: phenomenal. Audio: out of this world. Treat them as your competitor, no matter the genre... So that you are motivated to work hard and improve in these four aspect for your game. Because ultimately what Enix does really well is making games, Unforgettable.
part 2 will not take long as the most time consuming part of it, the art assets, is already there. but i bet they plan to make full use of next gen consoles for the open world aspect of the rest of the game
@@Coldsilfur4 I love how your response is 'maybe just eat up the shit they shovel at you?!1111'. Like you have to turn off your brain to enjoy it. No, dude, SE flat-out *lied* and changed their tune about why this needed to be split into segments, and it's already been shown and proven that large parts have been artificially slowed down and LITERALLY padded with fetch quests which they are on record saying they wouldn't pad it with. They could have done a lot of things that wasn't just a graphical remake. Like added content that justifies the cost or the extremely short plot length. Or maybe not doing something as stupid as what they've done.
@@RanEncounter Because it's been *Padded*, Ran. Jesus you come to class and put your damn headphones on. A Blu-ray disc LITERALLY CANNOT HOLD MORE THAN 50 GB either. RDR2 was 100 and had two discs to install. Do you think they're sending out magic 100GB super blu-rays, or are you just a moron?
@@TemenosL You said the game is padded down with what evidence? The game size? seriously you are an idiot. And yes it comes in two blueray discs you moron! How can you be this stupid? So RDR2 has to be padded too because it is a big game in your logic.
7:22 "Must expend" is exactly right! I cannot tell you how many people i've seen playing the FFVII-Remake demo treating it as if it was a hack n' slash... It's f*cking embarrassing. Theirs no "I Win" button! You *have* to think an use strategy and tactics... Idiots!!
