Dude, his wife was possessed by a sorceress from the future and made to fight the children she raised, while forcing cid to lead an attack on the opposing military school she gained control of. I think the only Luck Cid had was that she survived and gained herself back
Seeing Squall rush Edea in Dollet after she blocks Irvine's sniper shot was so intense. What a way to end a disc with him failing and being impaled by her ice magic.
@@-randocommandoI have a different interpretation of the "Ultimacea=Rinoa" and "Squall is dead" theories. I think the first sorceress possessing Edea (when she's wearing that visor and her long hair is lose) isn't Ultimacea, but Adel from a timeline in which she was never released while Ultimacea rules the world below her. Because of this, at the parade, she actually executes Squall (who, in an instinctive moment, puts himself in front of Rinoa to take that icicle to his chest in her place), leaving a traumatized Rinoa's spirit broken, but with a drive to become stronger, a drive that evolves into obessession, creating the very thing Adel sought to destroy, except this time (because I think that timeline had a loop of its own too that changed a little bit every time Adel tried something different in the past), Ultimacea had a goal that went beyond mere revenge against the world that condemmed her once she got her sorceress powers. She now wished to save the only person who never went after her. The only one who didn't lock her in a room for her safety, but instead gave her actual criticism on how she could improve herself. So, in the future (in which most her memory is either gone or twisted by the GF she acquired for herself) using that machine, she took control of Edea away from Adel, resulting in the wardrobe change we witnessed, and in a misguided attempt of both securing her own existance and putting Squall away from harm's way, he aims the attack at Squall himself, creating a new timeline and a new loop. The question now however is: -Was the final scene of her and Squall in the Garden real ? Or was it a fantasy she had, because Squall actually died on her arms at that field, since without most of his memories, he had no real identity to sustain himself ? Needing to see Rinoa one final time simply to be erased in peace ?
Me too. It is a top 10 game of all time for me. Many people I've met swear that ff6 is the best. Hopefully there's a remaster of that and I can compare
Even thinking about him making the whole OST for one Final Fantasy game is already impressive. But making 90% of the OST for over 15 games is mind blowing. Uematsu might literally be a god reincarnated as a musical mastermind.
I'm replaying FF8 after almost 20 years, When I first finish it I did not understood English, so I'm feeling goosebump on that "first playthrough", CD1 END
I went to a Distant Worlds concert a few years ago in 2019 @ The Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. And, I kid you not, there was a beautiful girl there who was cosplaying as Sorceress Edea. I wish I could have gotten a picture with her. She was absolutely stunning...
My favorite character from 8 is actually Ultimecia herself. Unlike most villains in fiction, her ideas and motivations make sense to me. The futility of existence when compared to the never ending tides of time and how nothing can stand against it... She fears a death beyond death; to be forgotten. That is something most people if not all people, fear. She is also frustrated by humanity's empty attempts at achieving eternity and how in that process it causes misery to many. Sure, her way of processing that reality might be unhealthy but she is compelling. I've always felt conflict between rooting for the protagonists or her.
@@danielsantiago4490 I agree, Squall is my favorite in the franchise. My favorite antagonist though was actually Seifer. He was a very smart guy that knew exactly what he wanted and worked insanely hard to accomplish it even if he himself knew what sacrifice was required. He excelled at Garden, he took a very elite student position with Fujin and Raijin, and he mastered what was considered the hardest weapon to handle. Even his actions before he went to be a sorceress lapdog show that he had the goal clearly in mind with his library checkout being, "The Sorceress' Knight". Even Squall in the end respects his mindset, even if he doesn't agree with his actions. From a character POV, he makes the perfect rival. From his duel at the start of the game showing their intense rivalry, both competing with the same weapon, one wears black and the other wears white, one quiet and the other outspoken. The scars they have run opposite directions, and throughout the game they are routinely on the opposite team (later in the game have the same position in a way as the Sorceress's Knight) each being each others greatest obstacle. At the end of the game I always have good feels when I see Seifer looking up at Balamb garden and giving that small smile. He is happy for them, he is happy himself. He accomplished his lifelong dream which took him to places most will never reach, and though he lost and probably forever lost the ability to be part of his alma mater ever again- he still made it.
@@MrDefault08 I think the biggest issue is that I can't really take him seriously from a gameplay point of view. I broke it so hard that none of the enemies could do much to scratch me, especially Seifer. That's nothing to do with the writing though, but him OWNING Odin was fucking awesome I'll give him that. I just think it becoming so easy killed a bit of tension.
Edea is such a cool character that I modded this game so she could be used full-time in my party. It was awesome, except for the Castle at the end due to party swap glitches. I wish Square-Enix would remake this game so you could use Edea, Laguna, Kiros, Ward, and Seifer (maybe even Raijin and Fujin?) as permanent characters in the 3rd/4th CDs. What an ensemble cast that would be!
Actually that's the Sorceress theme, it's used against every Sorceress in the game, Ultimecia included. Ultimecia's theme would be "The Extreme", while "Maybe I'm a Lion" and "Legendary Beast" are her Griever's.
It’s pretty obvious this was a leftover track from FFVII that got repurposed for FFVIII. The bit starting at 0:21 is FFVII’s main theme; they didn’t even try to disguise this, it’s just a note-for-note copy. 0:47 is another brief but not-so-subtle FF7 sample; namely the end of the lead melody line from Temple of the Ancients. The part starting at 1:20 is straight out of FF7’s battle theme ("Those who fight"/"Those who struggle on"/whatever the hell the current official translation is); namely the build-up from the verse section (from ~1:20), and the bridge (~1:24).
@@tdark987 Not sure if "rushed", but certainly it carried over some ideas that didn't make it to FF7. The developers said that Jenova was an ability "every female had a potential to awake" - so basically FF8 sorceress lore. Given that "The Extreme" references Vincent's theme, My guess is Ultimecia's original plot was maybe somewhat connected to Lucrecia's - in FF7 they didn't go into Jenova/Lucrecia connection other than the pregnancy experiments. They even have "Ce(n)tra" ruins in FF8. Another fun fact - Edea's crown resebles the shell-like structures at Forgotten Capital
When I first played FFVIII, I thought Edea was so scary!! XD That headpiece with the horns, her pale skin and scarred face, the long clawlike fingers. CREEPY!!! And then you find out who she is and it's like....Oh.....awwww! Then it's sad. :,(
I'll be perfectly honest, I just spammed summoning Carbunkle so she'd waste her turns getting rid of my reflect in the first fight. The second fight didn't turn out so well with that tactic...
*EVENT: CASSIOPEIA STOLES THE SCRUUGE EMBLEM* (Appear Cassiopeia again, and one of her minions has stole the Scruuge Emblem with Unknown's hands!) here is challange to make you eat those words. Re play the game from the beginning with Battle speed on max (ps3 download version doubles the normal max so use it for this) You must not run from ANY fight except the one with the Robotic Spider that is more less teaching how to escape. Goodluck
Michael Parnell Or run from every battle in the game and you'll barely level up I believe. The enemies in the game level with you, but imagine having virtually no draws, shit for stats and you're looking upon Ultimecia as the final battle of the game. That is a challenge. Go for fighting Ultima Weapon to get Eden and you'll be blitzed into oblivion before you can even make it halfway down those stairs.
