I personally feel like a lot of magic animations and sound effects really peaked in Final Fantasy VIII. There's a power and flashiness to some of the stronger spells that they haven't really replicated since.
@@mysticwater9056 It didn't though, especially since Angel Wing+Meteor exists (and Quistis' and Selphie's limit breaks). In fact FF8 probably has some of the best status spells in the entire series via Aura/Meltdown/Triple/etc, and other high level magic like Curaga/Full-Life and Ultima/Meteor/Holy/Flare/etc are also perfectly fine.
@@mysticwater9056 No it certainly did not. consider these examples... With 255 magic and Meltdown casted for defenses 0 status... Aga class spells will deal 7,000 damage to enemy very weak to the spells and 21,000 triple casted. Holy will deal 9,999 damage to enemy very weak to it and 29,997 under tripled. Water will dish out 5,656 damage single and 16,500 under tripled. Quake and Tornado will deal ~6,200 multi target damage to foe weak to it single and 18,600 MT tripled. Demi will deal 9,999 damage to heavy hp foe single and 29,997 tripled. Ultima devastates the enemy with 7,200 MT damage single casted and 22,000 tripled. Lastly, the god of all offensive magic in this game Meteor.. will deal 14,000 single casted and 42000!! under triple status. So yeah people FFVIII is a bad example of a game with weak magic. Even magic based limits like 'The End', 'Meteor Wing, and Degenerator are op'd.
I sort used be same but in end I just used what I needed and got magic from GF abilities. But end game all you really need is haste and aura lol. Still love the magic though.
@@pogimax I played the remaster as my first ever ff8 experience and I love the junction system. I love how you can use magic to boost your stats. After the beginning I always had some magic that I could use without any consequences. It adds a bit more strategy to battles as well. This is definitely my favourite ff game now.
@@dolphinboi-playmonsterranc9668 especially in the early game, when you can abuse Triple Triad to get Curaga, Regen, Tornado or Reflect and make your stats super tanky
The game has a cheat mode where it gives back all your health, makes you able to act without waiting for your turn, and gives you limit break at any time.
People seem to think that magic is weak in this game and nothing can be farther from the truth. Here are some examples... With 255 magic and Meltdown casted for defenses 0 status... Aga class spells will deal 7,000 damage to enemy very weak to the spells and 21,000 triple casted. Holy will deal 9,999 damage to enemy very weak to it and 29,997 under tripled. i loved FF8 but if there's anything about it i didnt like its that to multitarget various spells we had to be under the effects of double or triple................. im glad that 8 was one of if not the only game in the series that did this with the majority of player usable spells
@@bogymanthedark yea especially once you got access to shit like auto-haste and whatnot...... honestly if there was anything i think they shoulda done to improve the magic system in 8 is make it so we can aoe any magic like pretty much every other spell in the franchise barring a few exceptions, and in the event of double/triple let them keep their multicast effects but should we choose to aoe them their damage gets reduced but only while under double/triple...... otherwise remove the junction system in a manner similar to the crystal mod for both old school FF8 and FF8 remaster and that would make it at least somewhat more enjoyable
That part where two party members are dead and the enemy casts STOP on the only remaining party member alive... is just so sad and frustrating :D CHANDELIER
She can be in your party any time during after the great salt lake excursion in disc 3 :^) Although she's temporary and only stays in your party up until your first venture into lunatic pandora in disc 3.
@@BlueSpeedsFan92 A late reply, but it wasn't being lazy. They lost the games original source code, making it a lot more difficult to do an adequate remaster.
Why does Squall look like he is a 14 year old middle schooler in the remaster ugh?! Everything else looks fine but him. I mean I may be able to tolerate playing the remaster but likely not.. I'll most likely stick with the original psx copy I have.
What is with remastered Squall looking like a metrosexual emo kid. Why do Enix have to reimagine every main character as a stereotypical emo teenager. Sephiroth - reimagined as goth emo Cloud - reimagined as annoying emo teen Squall - metrosexual emo Stop Enix. Stop messing with the glorious things that Squaresoft created.
He does not. Squall in the original game was a 17 year old teenager but his features were more masculine and mature looking. Squall in the og looked like he was 25 years old. In the remaster he looks softer featured and younger.. like 14 years old.@@BloomPlays
I've beaten this game and haven't seen 90% of the spells. This shows how the junction system was an awful mechanic. I would save them them rather use a single spell.
@@pn2294 Just like you shouldn't give people the ability to hit for 1800 damage with Squall by the time you reach Dollet, and yet it's possible. Unlimited Junctioned spells would just be the cherry on the top.
