I got a bit past this point in the game but never beat it. One of the weaknesses of the PS2 is that the DVD player wasn't very well protected and anything the weight of a full-grown cat could push it in and damage it if such laid on top of it. My cat Max (R.I.P.) did such an therefore dented in the DVD player ever so slightly that my discs get scratched if I play games on it. :( Now I would just get the remaster of the game but in my file I managed to get the Zodiac Spear by the skin of my teeth and would hate to have to go through the game again up to that point JUST TO STRUGGLE TO GET THE SPEAR AGAIN. >:(
I know that this is 5 months late, but I'm sorry for your loss of your cat, but I agree with you about the difficulty of getting the spear in the PS2 version and IT WAS ANNOYING AS HELL INDEED
Good news is FF12 PS2 version is ultra affordable (PS4 Ver. is a bit less so but by no means pricey or rare) if you want another copy! PS4 version is awesome but it IS different gameplay-wise. It adds a couple quality of life improvements but overall it's the weaker version in my opinion after playing both. I prefer the original for two reasons: 1. The classes weren't as rigid. You can class units how you like and have more freedom on the license board which the newer version cuts down on. It honestly makes the game worse imo and too much like more conventional FF games where characters are kinda stuck into roles with limited ability to change. It's a personal preference but it's one you should know about. 2. The new version is a bit too easy in my opinion. I know this sounds odd, but the difficulty of the original was what I really enjoyed; it really made you think and plan out an attack or spell and think multiple steps ahead of your enemy. One of the most noticeable changes in this vein is the enemy targeting and abilities. In the original, the Elder Wyrm had a move that hits all 4 party members (4 if the guest is there/alive) and INUNDATES them with status effects all at once which meant that IMMEDIATELY, you had to plan and get rid of the effects in a specific order to maximize efficiency and avoid being 1 hit KO'ed by the fire ball move while having the oil status. In the PS4 one, the move actually only hit one of my party members. Which, don't get me wrong, is way less of an issue as far as beating the boss is concerned, but I think it took away from the anxiety in the original. Honestly, both versions are great but I say the original is a bit better? But it's honestly a matter of personal preference!

I had to more or less harass SwankyBadger to recently release an update of his Source Film Maker/SFM vids for portions of the Fingertips medley by They Might Be Giants. He credited me for "guilting" him into continuing it, much to the praise of his fanbase. :o
