Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age - How The Battle System Works 

I liked the part how the video was 21 minutes long, dedicated to the battle system, and he only did one sword attack the whole time.

Over the years, I've found that sometimes people can make the Gambit system seem more difficult than it really is, as well as waiting until the end to mention you don't have to use it.

Vaan was voiced by a backup dancer for Brittany Spears. So if you thought his voice was a little effeminate, you were spot-on. :p

If he really played it he would have noticed that one of the enemies was flying and then all the attacks made with non-distant weapons don't hit.

No GameSpot The Zodiac Age is not a "remake of the original" it's a remaster. How anyone can still not know the difference between the two after all these years absolutely baffles me.

I love it, but the only problem with this game is that if our character wears a full plate set it still shows him in T-shirt and pants.

You can manually control/switch characters as well! Don't make it sound like you are just gonna sit there watching them

I liked to play this game like vanille persona 3. Where I choose all actions for my main character (disable gambits on player controlled charater). while keeping gambits on for other party members. Makes the combat feel a little less robotic.

I was wondering if they changed the levels of the mobs because I remember some mobs would right out kill you because they were much higher level than I was and since they didn't show their level, it was trial and error.

ive investested over 250 hrs in this game from 2 play throughs guess the 3rd time is the charm when its on the ps4

Not only the characters are Star Wars'ish. Also the music, areas, vehicles and foot soldiers...heck the whole game has a Star Wars Vibe.

The fact he didn't use a ranged character on that flying enemy triggered me. It took so long to kill it and so many curas to keep him alive.

There's something off-putting about an interviewer who doesn't wiki a subject before an interview. But at least she readily understood the gambit system. By the Occuria I LOVE the gambit system. The best part about the system is that it isn't mandatory. If you want to be in complete control, it can still function similar to an ATB system. So, no need to complain. My favorite thing was a "grinding gambit". I felt pretty smart when I "made" it, even if I'm sure I wasn't the first. It goes like this... Party members A, B, C A & B Function normally C has a high priority for attacking [Furthest Enemy] The result is that C can perpetually drag A & B around an area. That grinding trick the dude in the video spoke of sounds risky.

one of my favorite FF games ever, FFtactics war of the lions is my all time fav but this was soooooooo good. I can't believe people didn't like it. Def gettin this remastered version

Always wanted to play this game! Looks like a classic FF. The combat system and settings sounded interested from the get go. Always wanted to play it on PS3 with the built in emulator- but now that it's coming to PS4 - it's much better. I understand it won't run at 60fps right? And no PC version ?

Please have change job command during fights instead of merging 2 job class stats so that we can be able to SEE more weapons!

So I never played FF12 but it looks interesting. I'm concerned with the combat because I like to be involved a lot I don't want to sit and eat a bag of chips while my party just attacks. Besides this gambit system is there any control in the combat? Is it still fun to play?

oh yeah i remember autofarming level with the bats....and also chaining them for loot drops

I just want to know how the weapons will come into play. Like I rocked van with two handed swords. For my to get that I had to wait till like half the game. If I picked that job then do I have to wait half way through the game to start into my job?

has the summoning/magic system improved on this version?

Together with Final Fantasy VIII, those are my favourite Final Fantasys AND favourite RPG's of all time =) I hope People will be less biased this time and actually give XII a damn chance! this is actually a pretty bad explanation. He just talks like you only give manual inputs on few occasions and have to always rely on gambits. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! You can turn off Gambits and have FULL MANUAL CONTROL OVER ALL CHARACTERS, by giving Commands when the ATB is filled manually. you can play like a traditional Final Fantasy! But that is WHAT NO ONE THAT HATES THIS GAME UNDERSTANDS! All are complaining "DUUUUUH, you don't have full control over the party, only Gambits, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!" while you actually can play it like Final Fantasy X, IX, VIII, VII etc. just that you can move in combat. Usually I have 2 Chars set with gambits, and one I have full manual Control over. And I often the use manual commands even on Gambit Chars, like If I need something that is on a lower place on priority earlier than usualy etc. People really should give this game a try! The Combat is more fun and deeper than it looks! YOU DON'T HAVE TO JUST WATCH!

Shoulda prob mentioned that track for Tchica Uplands is NEW to ZA. It wasn't in the original nor the IZJS. (I'm saying they played Giza Plains music in the original and izjs for tchica. Now it's a NEW track)

If a character is a mage, are their physical attacks terribly weak, or are they capable of strong/effective physical attacks?

I was about to complain about the poor explanation of this video but I can see it has been covered already in the comments. Something that everyone fails to mention is that Gambits are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL as in you can turn them off entirely and manually control all Party Member Commands such as in every prior FF game to XII.

If every character can have two jobs, when I choose them will I be able to change them? Or is it an irreversible action?

Welp, time to dig up the old power-up guide for Final Fantasy XII I used years ago! XD This is my favorite of the series, mainly because it doesn't have too much technology in it and it's based in a more racially diverse world.

Still wish they would add the ability to changes jobs, hate being locked in the entire game. Even if it was in town and had a cost to make it so you don't do it often. Also was hard to watch near the end, was like he wasn't playing as the last few battles they were silenced and did nothing... Can't wait to play this all over again!

As nice as this remastered package is, Square Enix got a lot of balls selling FFXII: TZA for the same price as FFX/X-2 HD and KH1.5 + 2.5

Okay, I have to get this out. Archadia and Rozarria are EMPIRES not kingdoms. Dalmasca and Nabradia are kingdoms. This is my main issue with how you described the story. I can forgive pronunciation with ease, but story facts I just can't. I also would not say the characters are swept up (except Vaan and Penelo). I am glad that XII is getting some appreciation but...please write yourself notes. I am not trying to be cruel, just it makes it easier to understand you. Not the worst review I've seen that's for sure, so you get points from me for that. Thank you for giving Zodiac Age some love though.

Is the battle system really as hands-off as he makes it seem? I really can't say I want to watch the game play itself..... I never played the original.

you really fail to touch on the fact that its most effective to manually control one character entirely, while gambits do the other two

Attack... Attack... Attack... Attack... Steal... Attack... Fire... Meanwhile in every other main Final Fantasy game: Attack, Guard, Fire, Cheer, Poison, Dark Attack, Kick, Limit Break, Paradigm Shift, Double Jump, Summon..... I've tried FF12 before for a few hours but does it actually become fun to play at any point?

The gambit system is why i like this game. Basicly i can relax my brains and enjoy the strategic side of the game

This is one of my favorite final fantasy games. It's a precursor to FF15's combat system. I didn't like the story but the combat and how immersive the world were made it a great game. I put 150 hours into this game and didn't even beat it. I got stuck on the Gilgamesh optional boss battle and took a break. Then I lost my memory card on my Ps2 and the rest was history 😤

Ah, Zodiac Age, the version of the game that came out shortly after that was a massive improvement to the game, after I'd spent $100+ on a "collector's edition"...never preorder kids.

I will spend AS LONG TIME on this, if not even more, than I used to on the PS2 version. The FF function wont make any difference! I love FFXII

It's funny how everyone's been manipulated into thinking this is one of the best FF's by the recent marketing. Personal opinions aside, back then the general view was that this was a very average FF, with a boring combat system. Which is not to say there aren't good things about the game, of course.

no major changes and thats fine (except double jobs, which is awesome!) but i have to say..... i dont like the new font or the pictures of the characters in the main menu. asthetically it doesnt look as good to me. the pics look jarring to me like they were just slapped on there and they pop out far too much for my taste. and the font is too sharp, like italic in a word processor, and i had this same complaint for the FF9 rerelease. the previous font made it look like it was hand written in a book. it was more stylised for the game it was in and this new font feels so.... mechanical to me. maybe i'm just being nitpicky, but these details are what make a good game great. and while i'll still be getting this when it releases..... it just feels a lil off to me.....

Sad that the NPCs still pop up like that. Some additional vegetation and maybe some additional geometry would have gone a long way towards making it look more modern instead of a PS2 remaster.

comparing star wars to ffxii.....that is what you should apologize for... The game play fluctuates. You can go for while with gambits alone but then you can find yourself going through the action menus like crazy. It's constantly changing. The harder boss battles may require more manual inputs and it all depends on the battle speed preferences. A really high paste battle speed will make the harder battles much more interesting and challenging, specially Yiazmat. I've been waiting for this game a long time.Some people hated the gambit system but I loved it. It made battles more interesting.

The one and only FF game i NEVER played... hahaha... this remastered version will come in handy.
