Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age: Ultima Boss Fight (Secret Esper) (1080p)

One of the most infamous espers to find inside the crystal labyrinth. Not only was it the most confusing maze to navigate in the history of final fantasy games but with no map at all which made it a tougher nightmare and when you finally got to the esper it was also the challenge of beating it unless you knew the strat combos to beating it. This was one hard fight but my god it is worth it once you finally cleared the crystal.

Wow I’ve seen this boss fight many times, but I never realized she had her eyes open in the beginning. Now that it’s HD it’s much more clearer. I thought the only time she did open them was during her final attack. She’s always been my favorite esper so it’s a nice little fun fact after all these years.

I loved how in the remaster, they put Excalibur at the Crystal Peak so you're forced to fight Ultima in order to walk away with the sword. Makes sense because the weapon is just so busted in the remaster, since there's no longer a 9999 damage cap.

I remember when I finally find out Ultima after more than 4 hours lost on this dungeon, and with my soul broken with no hope left, Ultima appears as a boss to ruin the last thing that I have as a reputation... It was a damn hard battle, I lose my shit fighting against Ultima, and after defeating her, my ass only wanted to find a save game and leave that mess once and for all.

I was most proud of myself while playing this game. I found a lot of these additional espers by accident, especially Ultima and the secret weapon that deals holy damage. I read up on how to get that weapon afterwards and learned it was a very low percentage drop. so i was very lucky to have gotten it on the first run. And when I went head to head with Ultima I was so fucking glad when it was over because I hadn't saved the game, thinking there was only a big treasure at the top of the tier, never imagining it was an Esper fight. FML.

I remember this during the OG version. Ultima was relatively easier compared to Zodiark. The only challenge, navigating thru The Grand Crystal without a map. Had to get a couple of paper and draw every area I went to so I have idea where I was going and was gate needs to be unlocked. I love the battle with her so much that I kept a saved file just to keep on fighting her whenever I want to. IMO, FFXII was the last FF entry in the series that lived to its legacy of being "Final Fantasy"

The only reason I won this battle was that my healer had the reverse status effect as well as the accessory that absorbs holy magic. I was 75% of the way through the fight before I realized that the healer was taking no damage from any source.

I remember accidentally meeting her while searching excalibur in the original version. Totally underpowered and wipe my group everytime she cast holyja.

At 7:11 it says trophy earned "High Summoner". Is this a reference to FFX?

It felt sooo good to finally beat Ultima after she defeated me over 50x. But it was worth it. Great memories none the less.

I wonder what happened between FFXII and Tactics, because the corruption of the Espers and their transformation into Lucavis is something I've always thought about

I went into this place trying to get Hastega, Shellga, and Excalibur. Didn't realize Ultima was in the same room as the weapon and she completely wiped me even I wandered in. Thankfully, I'd saved and I retried with a proper strategy in mind, beating her with all my characters dead save for Fran, Ashe, and Reddas. I gave her to Basch. :P

OMEGA MARK XIII & Ultima being under there was a love hate relationship. Loved tryna get to end game stuff before the end game. Felt like a hella of an accomplishment

The trick to easily defeating ultima is by equipping a bangle that absorbs light damage. Her magical attacks will heal you but you still have to worry about there Physical damage.

Reverse will really caught you off guard if you are not quick!

One gripe - you should have equipped your characters w/ Dark Weapons. Would've made killing Ultima easier.

I found all of these additional espers looking thru the internet. It cost me so much work and lots of hours, but I did it. It was hard. I don't want to do it ever again. This is something you do it once. Great game.

I played this a few months ago and I was honestly so amazed at myself I beat her by accident lmao. I was drunk and watching something on RU-vid and all of a sudden it cuts to her defeat cutscene. And I know it was pure dumb luck.

I defeated ultima with my all my players under level 53 ,took 2 hours ,healing every second of the fight and slowly chipped away at her hp lol

I'm definitely going to be re-buying this game when I get the chance. I never got to this part, wasn't able to get past Yzasnaevhnsdjvnk(whatever the fuck his name is lol). I'm glad thre is more after him though, motivates me to actually overcome it. I remember accidentally stumbling across the hell wyrm. It was more curiosity, because there didn't seem to be a way to get to him. I was running around aimlessly trying to figure out what the secret was and accidentally activated the way to his lair, purely by dumb luck. So being, brave I said fuck it. And my jaw dropped when I saw his health bar show up. It only took m on try to beat him, but I almost died several. It took me two and a half hours of on-the-edge of my sat focus to pull it off.

Did they nerf her? i remember having to use endgame tactics like having a tank with decoy and reverse on along with full buffs on all party members to withstand her attacks....

Gambits set up to spam ethers and spam heals during this fight is a dumb idea. I did this at half your level with less difficulties because I just had them set to attack and controlled the fight. Dumbfiring it endgame with max chars kind of works I guess.

I still remember the time I had excalibur against this bitch on my ps2, cuz of the reversing effects her own element was killng her XD

The thing i always hated about final fantasy games was that these bosses were so unbeatable without cheating or spam training in regular game play, that by the time you were actually strong enough to beat them the game was already long over. It's like that with most games though, you never get any of the strongest weapons or gear in regular game play and you can never use them . They're just kind of time killing side quests

Why did you only have one team? This is why you work everyone equally so that you have two teams. If he would have trained everyone equally this fight would have been shorter cause he would have had a whole fresh team to use when it got rough. Js

Everyone in my party, lvl 70ish, is getting one shot (9999 hp) by her special attack. Over and over, nobody survives to cast raise or dispel or anything for that matter. It's not reverse killing me, it's instant death from her. WTF is going on?

And I thought Zodiark was hard....

I’m not sure exactly why, but Holyja in Zodiac Age just feels… less. Than the original version. Less sound, less impact.
