One thing I do like about XIII (well, 2 onwards) is Caius :O He's so cool and his backstory is incredibly interesting. That combined with the fact that he's voiced by Liam O'Brien = awesome
1:23 Yeul: as you change the timeline, you come closer to death -moves closer to Serah- Me: ....NOW KISS! -Yeul disappears and turns into Caius- Me: O.O! ............. STILL KISS!
I love when Caius says "Yes" & when he says "Surrender now to your heart's desire."... Lol And did anyone else find it creepy when Yeul closed in on Serah like that??
Caius is so fucking awesome he is like a villian but you can sympathize with his goal b/c everything he does is for Yeul omg he is such a fucking beast like one of the beastliest beasts of all time Cauis fucks shit up yea nigga YEAAAA
You see, this is why think Caius is a great villain. When these two meddlers Noel and Serah started to interfere he didn't wait for them to find him, he just straight up got up and dealt with the problem though he should have killed them, I can see why he didn't, especially Noel. LET US DECIDE THE TRUE HISTORY!
1) Lightning is based on Cloud. They have somewhat similar attitudes and they are both ex-soliders. 2) "Hero" mentality of Snow is like Zack's 3) Caius lays Yeul to rest in the intro just like how Cloud lays Aerith to rest in FF7 4) Caius stabbing Serah, the innocent female protagonist who wants to save the world, just like how Sephiroth stabbed Aerith 5) Cocoon crashing=meteor +more Yeah, there are references to other FFs, but there are more FF7 references, even if they seem "scarce" to you.
@Juansetheunknown the only difference being he had to witness the horror of losing the one person he vowed to protect over and over again, failing his task as her guardian and sole defender constantly. knowing this what man wouldn't go mad at losing the one he cherished most in this world? he must have endured countless ages of watching yeul die, over and over again, i cannot even fathom the horror of it myself. sephiroth was driven by purpose, something he sought all his life. caius grieved,
I dream of having the skill to pull of this voice like Liam O'brien does, i'm pretty sure his normal voice is quite different, though its been a long time since i last saw the video of his voice acting. if i was him, I would buy and carry round lots of honey and talk like this all day. :)
@Juansetheunknown I propose something like this: Etro gave Caius the Heart of Chaos (her heart) many years ago. But that didn't necessarily replace HIS heart. Therefore, when the Heart of Chaos was destroyed (killing Etro in the process), Caius still had his own heart to live by. This sounding a lot like Kingdom Hearts! The upside to all this is that he is no longer immortal, so the main characters of Final Fantasy XIII-3 (let's hope for this one) can be able to kill him.
@FruggleFarkle123 i think caius is the perfect version of sephiroth in the final fantasy world... sephiroth also was a good guy in the begining... they have a sword that anyone else can use.... and the song of caius Followers of chaos is a badass song to jejejejeje
Did you even play the game? They say several times that Cocoon would decimate the landscape if it fell into Pulse. For everything else, you can have your own opinion.
The planet still survives for over 200 years after the fall of cocoon. The meteor would destroy the planet in 10 seconds flat. It is not exactly comparable to the meteor anymore than it is comparable to Sin or the clashing of gaia and terra
Not like that at all. That was Cloud who laid Aerith in a body of water, not Sephiroth. Plus, Serah being frozen in time during her fight with Caius is reminiscient of the fight between Ultimecia and Leon.
when i watched this video while playing ffxiii-2 , i hated from caius so much . But this yeul's transforsm ,reincarnation wasnt caius's mistake . Because of Etro . Caius fights for save yeul . And serah , she did everything for lightning but caius won this battle SHIT :/
@Juansetheunknown And do you know what's the best thign about him? In the end, HE WINS. That's something no other Final Fantasy villain has ever accomplished.
There are next to none... -_- There are a few references to all of the games such as the ship called "the lindblum" and kains lance as a weapon but there are no real references to ff7 more than any other ff
This might sound really silly, but I tear up every time at the "Yes" simply because you can hear it in his voice that he's just that far gone. Liam just does such a wonderful job voice acting ;;
I like how Caius Ballad and Gaara are voiced by the same person ._. like he uses the exact same voice for Caius that he uses for Gaara. He also voices Asura in the game Asura's wrath.
I know I probably commented the same thing on here sometime ago, but Holy Shit there needs to be a FF DLC where you can play as Caius like at least sometime in his past so we can learn more about him. Maybe even plays as Chaos Bahamut while we're at it. If there were a DLC like that, it would be so fucking kickass AND fun!! :D
The trauma of having a loved one die over and over throughout the course of eternity...Caius is a warrior with issues...lots of issues. Hell even when he casts Heart of Chaos he says "We have been cursed with eternity."
It'd be hard to stab someone from the front with such a huge sword, really XD It'd be so easy to dodge. Kinda like trying to stab someone with a stop sign.
Now this fight shows off one of the things I love about Caius as a villain. He doesn't feel like he has to give his whole plan away and he shows little to no hesitation towards killing the main character. He didn't have to fight as hard as he did here to defeat Serah but merely sought to ensure a victory for himself. In essence his lack of arrogance and genuine caring for Yule make him a very unique FF villain. He will end everything not for himself but for Yule's sake alone. WINGS OF NIGHT.
It's such a shame that I never liked XIII's story or gameplay. The setting and music and most other things are so beautiful, and I feel bad that I couldn't appreciate them because I didn't like the main parts lol I played all three entries of XIII and still never liked it...
Sephiroth is not dead forever either. So they both laugh at death itself. Caius dies and is not dead because of a paradox. Sephiroth dies and ignores that because he resists the lifestream, travels through it, gets stronger and decides to come back when the time has come. Almost all Final Fantasy antagonists are "immortal".
I'd argue that all FFs are references to each other, since they all have the motifs. I would hardly call anything similar to another FF "accidental." It's obvious that they like linking up FF stories. The kid Shinra in FFX-2, same/old weapons of old heroes in new FF games, etc. And why do you get to decide what is a reference and what is just an "accidental reference?" You weren't with the story writer for FFXIII-2 when he thought it out.
It would do damage to the land, not destroy the planet. It would be a punch to the planets face, not a gunshot. The rest is not oppinion it is fact, play FFs other than 7. They always use the same personality traits Snow wants to protect serah. Zindane wants to protect dagger. Lightning is an ex soldier, so was cecil Hope has issues with his parents, so did tidus Vanille seems stupid on the surface but is a deep character, so was rikku Lighning doesnt talk about her feelings, neither did amarant
They arent all ff7 references. There have been more ex soldiers before ff7, such as cecil. The hero mentality, like many other mentalities are used again in each game e.g. vanille=rikku sahz=wakka etc. caius lays yeul to rest like that because it would look weird if he put her in the water standing up wouldn't it? Serah is not "innocent". She chose to go on this adventure and knew the dangers. Aerith was forced. Cocoon crashin would not destroy the planet like the meteor.
You're arguing with the fact that Square said that Caius is the most powerful rival in Final Fantasy? Cloud can't kill Caius because of the Heart of Chaos inside of Caius. The only reason Noel was able to do so was because he had the true spirit of a guardian in him. Caius is also driven by a purpose for his mission more then Sephiorth or Cloud could ever hope for. Go back to your overrated game now. Note I do like FFVII but at this point it's extremely overrated which is why I don't play it
@FruggleFarkle123 that is just the true I know some people hate sephiroth fan boys like me and yes to me sephiroth was the best i know he is not the most powerful but he was the coolest.... but NOW Caius is the most great villain is jus awesome!!! but tell me something how he survive? at the end of the game?
well... Caius and Sephiroth... Sephiroth got killed by Cloud, but whats with Caius? (Spoiler) He isnt dead and when he got killed he isnt dead, not because he is immortal, its because he disturbes and knows the whole timeline. What would u do against such a god?
Dude, they're in a way; equal. You need Noel to defeat Caius & you need Cloud to defeat Sephiroth. But Caius yes, contains the Heart of Chaos. Sephiroth on the other hand can be revived from the darkness in Cloud's heart, as long as Cloud contains darkness in his heart, Sephiroth will always be reborn.
By Cocoon destroying the land of Pulse, life would suffer. The planet would die slowly along with the life on it, as seen in 700 AF. I never said that "the planet would be destroyed." I said that "it would decimate the landscape."
there are so many references to ffvii, like when caius put yeul's body into river, as cloud did with aerith's. here he stabs serah, just like sephiroth did. :) anyway, great vid! thank you! any chances, you've the same cutscenes only in japanese??
ya i know i have two more roles for each character to get to max level and the fact that he is near impossible whene facing him with only serah with the paradox scope on in the void beyond
@MrBoottz Nah Caius is literally immortal as oppose to Sephiroth who has died about three times already. Caius has also been said to be the most powerful rival in Final Fantasy history.
Yes, I agree that that's true. Final Fantasy story writers seem to like using similar character types, situations, enemies, etc. I just interpreted most of them as references to FF7, which they definitely can be. Like you said, they can also be references to other FFs as well.
yeha i already got the ending finally now i just need the final fragment: mobster profeser witch will be a bit#$ abd i finally got the proto-baemoth on my side all maxed out, witch will make my life easier i have no dlc's though
God damn his voice is cool. I mean even him saying yes is an epic one liner. How does a man live with such an epic voice, where a lost bus ticket sounds like a prophecy of the apocalypse?
Tell Ciaus to steal my soul he is epic!! GAHH of course I know he voice is well too better in his original japanese voice, yeah I love japanese men's voices!!! Freaking amaxing!
