@@1000Tomatoes honestly, that made it all the more jarring for me. I remember by mid Shb i was begging for the game to just give me the story lol. Feels so unnecessary to go through a fetch before every story conversation. Post expac patches and beyond do that pretty well, no fetches, just story and dungeons and it's amazing.

Have no idea how much I hated needing to go back to the Waking Sands. It was so stupid how a major location did not have a crystal to teleport too. Or at least a little one to port to from the local area.

You forgot the part where Minfilia rewards the warrior of light by sending them out on a thousand errands after the defeat of Lahabrea. Or how the warrior of light would often tell the primals to wait while they went off to pick berries and rocks and make outfits.

Yea this is like the only problem I have with the game so far, I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHERE I AM? These are main quests but why do they give so little exp and why does it feel like this isn't the expansion after the main story? I am so goddamn confused where I am in this game and what I'm supposed to be doing. Am I just wasting my time with these god awful quests that gives me second to nothing or should I go do dungeons and get some better gear? I have no idea... This is beyond frustrating, I do the MSQ but it doesn't feel like I am at all.

@@jsbfkdls So the parts where you get really low EXP is because you are already overleveled for the content you are doing AND you are doing whats known as "post-patch" content, or the content they patched into the game, after its release, before the next expansion. Its not suppose to give good XP because its effectively "old level cap" content, but it unlocked stuff and has story they wanna tell you, don't worry so much about the XP, once you see the words "HEAVENSWARD" written on your screen as you cross that bridge into the north, the XP returns from the story are great again to push you to 60 and the process repeats.

I'm here after several internet searches tells me no, I'm not allowed to play fun game until I read the novel first, so I'm here going to get a Cliffs Notes of what I would miss if I skipped ARR. (I'm job level 44 but msq just after the beach party hors d'oeuvres gathering surprise it's not a beach party it was a Test.) I honestly tried to pay attention to quest text for the first dozen levels but got burned out on how dry and underwhelming it was. I'm thinking of just an msq skip and leveling my first job to 50 by grinding other methods, since I'm almost there. But everything I've read says if I do nothing else in ARR the Hildebrand quest line is not to be missed, so when I get there I'll judge the rest of the game around it.

I didn’t skip the story, but with all the side quests & activities (crafting, timed events, etc) it can be easy to lose track of everything. I’m glad I found your video to fill in the holes of the story that I glanced over, the “why” of it all. Great job!! 😁

Truly preparing for a beach party with imminent rocky doom around the corner, so terrifying and powerful, was a highlight of the story, because as opposed to killing Titan, the party actually took a painful amount of time.

God that was so stupid. I finished the 2.X series of quests a while ago and people say that's the worst, but to me, truly nothing tops the inanity that was the Costa del Sol arc. At least the slower quests in 2.X eventually build to something. Why did I have to get cheese and wine for Whieskaet...well, at all...but especially with Titan around the corner?

A fair attempt, but you should have mentioned at the Ifrit chapter that in that encounter, the primals are found to have the ability to "temper" ordinary people outside of their Beast Tribe followers, making them mindlessly devoted to them. At this point the Warrior of Light's power and protection, courtesy of Hydaelyn, becomes manifest: You are immune to tempering, and have the power to fight and, with enough skill and grit, defeat primals. It is this that really gets the notice of the Empire, and makes you generally famous across the world.

Other people: This is a great way to fill myself in on the story so I can jump right into the latest expansion! Me: Actually played all the way through A Realm Reborn and multiple expansions over the years but can't remember huge chunks of the story 😂 Thanks a lot for the video man, I REALLY needed this refresher.

Thanks for the video, I quit around level 46 due to RL issues, I've just got back into the game and need to finish the story but I felt disconnected from it since it's been like 3 years since I played last and forgot most of it, this was exactly what I was looking for in order to get re-attuned to what I'd already done.

This is great, I am that person who skipped the story to catch up, however with Shadowbringers I intend to watch and read everything. Been playing since 2018 but felt pressured to catch up so i skipped all the cutscenes and by the end of shadowbringers i was clueless on the story. WoW has thousands of channels going over their deep lore to their basic story and FFXIV was so desperate for this! Awesome video, this absolutely deserves more views because it's not just the cut scenes slapped together. There could've been a tiny bit of explanation for certain names/phrases as Squenix throw some really convoluted and whacky names out there. For example 9:05 - 9:10 I have absolutely no idea what was just said hahaha

I feel like FF14 has the opposite problem to Wow. Wow's overarching story is complete garbage but the small individual stories in it are pretty cool, but FF14's overarching story is cool while the small stories within are pretty bad. At least for a Realm Reborn. I didn't play the expansions yet.

I couldn't either. I watched maybe 3 minutes and stopped. It was recommended to my FC as a reminder of the story but I'd rather not remember if I have to listen to this
