News just in: the tacos are, indeed, quite big and fat!

A Final Fantasy V mod might be a good route to it, to keep the job system in play. Either that or VI, with some sort of asm to allow Gogo to choose any character's abilities regardless of whether they are in the party or not, and removing the mimic requirement, filling out the rest of the party with Scions. Not sure how doing the WoL only fights would work in that case, not to mention the massive amount of early solo content where it's just you throughout ARR.

So now this is on my brain, and I was thinking about it all through work. I think I'd go RPGmaker, turn based combat, translating mechanics into such, making row-swapping an essential part of a lot of combat. For example, knockbacks could knock your party from the front row to the back, and if a character is already in the back, it'd either deal a large chunk of damage or instakill, depending on the fight. Towers could require at least a certain number of characters to be in a certain row, dealing damage to all in it, but more and a vuln if not done. Niabrales rift fissure could have random rows need one defensive character standing in it while the fissure does large party-wide damage every turn, and a countdown to a party wipe if not killed in a certain number of turns. So much JavaScript to learn....

Yes! That part of the original song is a reference to the Final Fantasy main theme. In fact, this song bears lots of references from FF14. I also took the liberty to put a few references from the game as well :)

Yeah, I was thinking that too: This rendition sounds much more like Mega Man/Ninja Gaiden/Castlevania than the NES Final Fantasy games. I found the percussion was a bit overdone, but it's a nice rendition overall.

It was the intention behind it. I could definitely try to compose songs that are more similar to classic NES FF but nowadays my composition style is vastly different from that. In the end, most of the songs end up on the lines of Mega Man and such because they're such great inspirations to me, and I can't help but get carried away lol. Thank you for observations, and I'll definitely consider this in the future!

I just saw your animation, yeah, it's a good background. I had to recreate the animation loop though!
