Hearing the music from the first trailer as the boss theme for leviathan is so unbelievably satisfying as someone who waited for this game since that first trailer
Dude, this is the final Eikon fight that was missing from the base game. It’s the end of FF16. The final quote in the DLC is literally a reference to the ending.
Clive: "That's right. Take it out on me." Hard to imagine, but I think Clive was trying to hold back as much as he could, only resorting to as much power as he needed to defeat and not kill Leviathan. He could NOT afford to go overboard with this one. Not saying that Leviathan isn't insanely powerful of course! Clive also had a village to protect, so he also couldn't use too little power. I believe the main goal here was to exhaust Leviathan to its utter limits while not harming Waljas.
We first heard this in September 2020: It is now almost 4 years since then. It’s been a long journey but one I’m happy we got to take. This whole battle feels like a Victory Lap not just for Clive but for the players as well. Thank you for this game Square Enix
Yeah, endless is right…endless is the amount of times I had to restart because I kept failing to break the barrier in time and kept Game Overing to Tsunami.
After being a Final Fantasy fan for 25 years, I have to say that this game exceeded my expectations. The final phase of this fight has me in tears because of the music. It was exceptionally beautiful.
as someone who was there for this game's announcement shortly after my completion of XV, having the original theme from that trailer gloriously return here solidified this entire game's unforgettably
I knew Soken was 100% gonna remake "Through the Maelstrom" for this fight, so I spent the entire fight trying to guess when it was gonna pop out. Phase 2 had me hyped like a little child.
Phase 2's theme is actually an orchestral version of his theme in FF14 "Through the Maelstrom", no matter what game he's producing Yoshi-P seemingly can't help but slip in a FF14 reference.
Can we all take a minute to appreciate that the phase transition between Phase 2 and 3 as well as the Final Phase itself also sound like "The Makers Ruin" from Final Fantasy XIV? Soken knew what he was doing here, he understood the assignment.
Eikons don't seem to change in power with age. The only thing that would change is walijas' control, but obviously, he never uses Leviathan after this fight.
When eikons go berserk (which can be seen with their eyes being yellow instead of blue) doesn't really matter who the dominant is, they're basically in full control, their dominant being in control would just mean they'd use their brain instead of instincts lol.
@@Belarhosbut it stands to reason that an Eikon is weaker when it’s out of control, just look at Ifrit when he fought Garuda and when he fought Typhon, Clive gaining control made him incredibly faster and more agile than before
@@sentientmustache8360 I'll be honest with you that segment was weird, cause while in gameplay ifrit is slower during that fight, during the cutscenes of that fight he's about as nimble as when clive controls him, maybe just not as good of a fighter cause he's just following instincts.
It's like obito in juubi form, he has better control on it, he can fire four tailed beast bomb at once! Juubi with no vessel is already so powerful, however when someone took better control of its power, it will definitely be disaster!
I find this whole fight amazing, along with the music. With Clive saying “I will not give up on you!”, it sent me goosebumps. That line alone shows just how far he is willing to go to save a life. I find it amazing at how Clive has used Ifrit mostly with either eliminating his enemies or grievously wounding them. This is the one time where he holds back just to make sure the baby is safe. Being able to control his own power, to show he is his own master.
one of the few games i have completed again and again while doing EVERY side quest multiple times! ON MULTIPLE difficulties, loved it!! the music and the boss fights and the entire story was some of the best gaming i have had in ages
If I had a nickel every time Ifrit beats the fuck out of a child who could transform into a giant monster, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
2:35 is in fact Leviathan, leviathan, endless Leviathan, leviathan, send us Leviathan, leviathan, breathless Leviathan, leviathan, deathless Leviathan, leviathan, restless Leviathan, leviathan, test us Leviathan, leviathan, tend us Leviathan, leviathan, mend us
Thematically beautiful. The first thing Ifrit does is killing a child because he lost control and the last thing Ifrit does is saving one because he mastered his power.
Phase 2 is literally 'Through the Maelstrom '. Leviathan's second phase boss theme in FFXIV. I like the connection the team made considering who was involved!
Soken pulled these little references throughout the entire game. He referenced Garuda's theme in XIV, Titan's theme, and Omega's theme as well. Since he is the same composer, this game was playground for him XD.
I really like FFXVI they try to bring back our Final Fantasy and they do amazing job one of the best FF so far the story make me shock i did no they will end like this such amazing story Clive is my most favourite main protagonist FF7 Rebirth is also very good remake they do amazing job again keeping doing it
In XIV it's called Through the Maelstrom and it has lyrics in that game. In XIV, the song is a prayer to Leviathan by the Sahagin. Lyrics: Leviathan Leviathan Endless! Leviathan Leviathan Send us! Leviathan Leviathan Breathless! Leviathan Leviathan Deathless! Leviathan Leviathan Restless! Leviathan Leviathan Test us! Leviathan Leviathan Tend us! Leviathan Leviathan Mend us! Drifting in the realm beyond all knowing Forsaken, shedding tears of glass Now tumbling from the boundless heavens, taken White moondrops, burning indigo Leviathan Leviathan Endless! Leviathan Leviathan Send us! Leviathan Leviathan Breathless! Leviathan Leviathan Deathless! Leviathan Leviathan Restless! Leviathan Leviathan Test us! Leviathan Leviathan Bend us! Leviathan Leviathan Rend us! Leviathan Leviathan Vengeance! Leviathan Leviathan Penance! Leviathan Leviathan Send us! Leviathan Leviathan End us! Silence from the knife that softly severs Mistaken for an unsung prayer Now rising from the soundless Deep. Awaken White fury, blinding indigo Swell ye seas of old, Leviathan Leviathan Surging tides grow bold, Leviathan Seething currents whorl, Leviathan Leviathan To swallow up the world, Leviathan Leviathan Leviathan Leviathan Endless! Leviathan Leviathan Send us! Leviathan Leviathan Rend us! Leviathan Leviathan End us!
@@Azdaja13 i've listened to it and i love the reference, i also enjoyed omega in echoes, but unlike omega, i like the ff16 version better. Omega original ff14 version is nicer than eikkonoclasm
You have no idea. Alternatively you can go play 14 to have that moment in reverse. Unlimited time free trial with all content up to the award winning Stormblood expansion.
writing this comment for my bf, because i KNOW we both listen to this quite frequently so hopefully he'll read it one day lol thank you so much for introducing me to not only this masterpiece, but to all of the other phenomenal video game OSTs that have made it into my playlist over the last few years as well. i really enjoy all the hours we spend experiencing (new) games together and i never get tired of watching you play. some of my fondest memories are definitely of us losing our minds over cool boss fights and amazing music, like we did when you played ff16 for the first time last year. i love you and i'm so glad you want and choose to share your favorite games with me :) love, lot
Amazing fight, amazing soundtrack, and an awesome callback to the original reveal with this song. Now my only wish is that we knew the lyrics to this one.
We start with such pure uncertainty and depth, then plunge into the melodic CERTAINTY we've known this entire DLC: LEVIATHAN is here. Unhinged, but deeply, DEEPLY tied to this place and its host. Its host is broken, Leviathan itself has no idea what's going on, WHY it's going on, the last conscious thing was.... beauty? Wait....WAIT no. Leviathan screams it has a purpose, doesn't remember or understand it but KNOWS it has a purpose. "And I don't.... remember........ You....." 2:33 This eldritch creature is suffering within the mind of a child and reacting in kind. It has been harmed, knows it WILL be harmed, only thoughts on what it CAN do.... to STOP THIS!!!!! *broken harmonies as this innocent being reacts before dropping back into that nightmare* *harmonies again, that's absurd, you're here to hurt me, you ARE hurting me* *Entire sequence drops into the main theme, chord change* "You're just FULL of surprises aren't you?" 4:55 onward *something within this creature has awakened, there's.... still the fear, the self-preservation, of itself, the host, but.... what is this? It .... feels so right. All of it, ......... this is most thrilling! Nothing like this has happened in memory!* "LEVIATHAN I need you to stop!" 6:10 *but I have NEVER felt this FREE, finally this.... free....* "You've had your fun, Leviathan, time to go back to sleep. Waljas, I like you, for now please shut up. Trust me, I get it." What an incredible piece of music to fully personify a story. I love this track, it's bright, fearful, and all its darkness comes from fear, not malice. Perfect musical storytelling. "So Clive, do you think if Ice and Fire made a baby, it'd... ultimately be like Leviathan, like Waljas? Water, I mean?" "Gav go talk to Karen." "Who?"
It's strange how in the 1st phase the little eikonic feat button has wildfire's icon and not ifrit's portrait, kinda wish it was always like that the whole game, i like how the eikonic ability icons look and it's a shame we never get to see the ones for the feats outside of the menus
I swear this is the fight that cemented in my mind that this game NEEDS a "retry from checkpoint" option. Even on action mode, the dps check for the fight is absurd enough that if you screw up early on you know you're already dead and just want to die to restart, but it feels like he's intentionally not hitting you very often in the DPS phase.
I heard phase 2 theme far more than I'd like to admit. Final Fantasy mode made me almost not beat it but after like 10 times I pushed past the DPS check lol
I needed like 7 or 8 trys on FF Mode. Not because of the DPS Check (did it on my 2try) but the attack maelstorm. Still dont know how to dodge it completely. But what an epic Boss fight it is👍
I picked up on the Omega "escape" nod immediately, but I was so damn locked in during this fight I didnt even notice the "Through The Maelstrom" rendition until watching this video xD
@@azazel166 oh ok. I had to almost play flawlessy to beat the „press the attack“ section and then I died a couple of times to that hurricane, but at least the OST was a banger
Honest to god my favourite eikon fight The press the attack phase took a little getting used to but I’m glad they finally made an eikon fight that felt challenging
One of the really cool thematic points of this fight and it might just be me noticing somthing that is not there. However Ifrits flames on his character model almost look dulled in this fight either signalling his disadvantage against water, or the theory I like that when Clive holds back as Ifrit the flames are not as strong. Just a small visual representation that Clive is aiming to save here not destroy.
This moment was truly his "Ifrit arc" coming full circle. From almost killing a child because he didn't know his power to saving a baby's life because he has mastered it and knows how to hold back.
