So crazy how diverse our nation is! I just planted a bunch of stuff this weekend (Southern California. Salad greens that only survive this time a year in 9B. I was even scared if my spinach will even germinate bc it's still 80s and we are gonna get a couple 90* next week. Planted broccoli, carrots, garlic, Romaine, Butterleaf, cilantro and dill this weekend. Radish and beets going in today. Sept/Oct is the start of a new season here, one that is sometimes the only time certain things will grow when we have 100-110 summers.
I am in southern Minnesota and we are expecting our first frost tonight. My brother made me cold frames to put on top of my raised beds to extend the season. I am almost happy the frost is coming (not really!) to try them out.
Those tiny green beans that won't store well are perfect in End of Harvest Soup, which you can start in the slow cooker before you go out for your final harvest, and just toss them in once you're back inside. The tiny pruning snips that you say not to waste your time with are my favorite! They won't work for squash of course, but they're great for cukes & peppers & noodle beans & all kinds of things.
My wife and I picked our butternut squash a week ago. We just have a small back yard garden so only got 9, good enough for just the two of us. Thanks for the cart idea to cure, I was bringing them back and forth. We live in 4b close to St cloud so all of your videos are great for us thanks so much! Ohh ya we just had a vacation to moose lake, stayed at the Hanging Horn resort highly recommend.
You are cutting-edge pioneers. Extend the pepper and tomato season with a hot tunnel in the spring, when daylight is long. Get creative with solar and sand heat storage to keep it off-grid. Control the soil temperature. Snow damage threatens our area. I will share my very small-scale pepper experiment findings if you are interested. They are in containers.
I find that if you put a tomato with you pepper box they will ripen if they have a tiny bit of color on peppers. Quick tip with celery if you cut a nursery pot bottom out and place pot over when you plant the celery it blanches and stalks get longer and thicker and stay cleaner it also helps to keep water in ground celery has heavy water needs
I'm in town & solidly zone 4, but my sorrel thrives, so I think yours will be fine. I didn't realize basil was so touchy, I'd planned to cover it tonight, but maybe I'd better cut it & bring it in since I want to make vinegar with it.
I can't believe how lush your garden still is! I'm in zone 7a and I pulled pretty much everything last weekend. I had a terrible pepper year so anytime I see people picking beautiful peppers I get so jealous lol! What all do you use that many squash for?
When i was a little girl we would buy geeen tomatoes that were pickled in a SUPER garlicy brine. It was imported from Ploand and oh my goodness, they were DELICIOUS 🤤😋 i guess they were more than likely like a refrigerator pickle (tomato)
Katie. Will you share your seed variety lists? Please and thank you. I also had small poblanos this year. I’m zone 3b northern Wisconsin. This is my 1st time gardening here and im60 years old 😮
I clicked this on as I am harvesting my peppers....Poblano peppers no less even, so what do u like to do with ur Poblano peppers? I am only picking my peppers in full color as I have a green house that has so far protected them from a couple frosts already, they r thriving in here!
@@thehomesteadingrd we are in southern Minnesota but my biggest problem this year was the unending rains this spring and summer. I had to replant three times. We had a decent Harvest just not as good as it should have or could have been
Fantastisch Good work Rayn you the best te moostiun te oogsten oktober groenten pepers Tomatoes te komkommers thans te video Top weekend grootjes 🌤️🍹🍁💖🤗🌿🍅🌶️🥒🍠🎃✔️🌱☘️💐🌞🐔🐕
I ended up only covering my prized peppers in the raised bed. Those ones survived the frost, but the rest in my in-ground garden are toast. I’ve already removed most of them
