Uploaded by request. David Thaxton (temporary replacement), Kelly Mathieson, and Jeremy Taylor perform the 'Final Lair' scene from The Phantom of the Opera. London production, 2019.
I've seen this version in compilations a few times, the part that always stands out to me is right after the kiss, when Erik and Christine have their hands intertwined. He starts to walk away from her and she holds onto him and then they both stop for a moment, right before they both let go, it's very bitter sweet, like they both know that love is there between them, but that as quickly as they recognized it, they'll have to let it go, on both sides. It's a beautiful version and the acting is so raw and open from everyone. Just lovely.
I’m so into this cast! Thaxton has kind of an unusual voice for the character but he makes it work. The cast has really good chemistry too. I love the way they’re all reacting to each other. Like at 8:10 when the Phantom is trying to rush them out and Raoul gets in front of Christine to protect her (aw) and the Phantom kind of backs off with his hands up. That’s good stuff!
Finally, a video of David Thaxton that has sound AND pictures! I was lucky enough to experience him live as the Phantom in London in March 2019. He seriously challenges my other top three Phantoms (Scott Davies, Ethan Freeman, Hans Peter Janssens). It's a shame he was with the show for only a limited time. He should be offered a proper run in the lead role once the show continues after the corona crisis.
@@divisionsreal Thank you so much for the link! This is my kind of music! Great song and arrangement! And, of course, the singer deserves special notice ;-) I already hit the like-button! You can be sure I will follow Divisions closely!
they were actually so insane for this. THE best phantom and Christine pairing I've ever seen in this scene and maybe my favorite interpretation of these characters. I'm a complete mess right now.
I like the part when he holds Christine's hands at his own chest even more than the kiss itself! Even if Erik's suffering because of the pain of rejection, he still feels glad by being forgiven (although it is Christine who needs Erik's forgive...), i just love this version 😭❤❤
Thanks, I have been waiting forever for a high quality vid to come out showing the new prosthetics from London/Broadway. Back in January when I saw the show on Broadway I was shocked to see that they were changed, at least here, they are painted much better so they don't look as bad as the ones in NYC back in January.
This man's interpretation of the Phantom is both menacing and pitiable. His timing and intonation is superb; it would be a privilege to see him perform in person! Christine has fire as well. Bravi!
So I wanted to comment on this since I haven't seen anyone else; I've noticed that some Phantoms have played the character in a manner which has ticks and signs of being autistic. With this, anyone who understands autism knows that this actor did a fantastic job of making the character more redeemable in that he doesn't seem inherantly malicious, he is literally just autistic and is having outbursts. It's a really cool thing to see, and fantastic work to Mr. Thaxton!
